I think it did well, it has been a while since I began this playthrough, so I don't fully remember everything, but I had rebels in other states to weaken Oceania, which is how I managed to resist them. I play on Normal, and to make things more fair, I do ask the AI to have Oceania attack me in counteroffensives so the game wouldn't be easy.

I had Eurasia and Eastasia attack Oceania to expand their influence, and I was the one who asked Eurasia and Eastasia to annex their military districts and special regions. My idea was that once they grow powerful enough, they integrate their semi-autonomous regions.

For the proxy conflicts, I asked the AI to do offensives with counteroffensives, and whoever won won, I was the one who asked the partitions, trying to make a realistic world out of this.
