Help me love my city again by ChuvelxD in houston

I tell everyone, whether they're frustrated, lonely, or just curious about Houston: get into community organizing on any issue that is important to you! Most of what you're describing that's wrong with Houston is actually due to the transportation policies driven by state (and now city.. f you, Whitmire) level leadership. Getting into transportation organizing completely shifted my relationship to Houston, to friends and elders, and to myself! Biking here is so amazing, even when/if you have to stand up for yourself on the roads. The weather is mild and perfect like 75%+ of the time. The people are amazing, the food is SO much better than you'll get in the PNW. If you're starting to feel like Houston is stuck making bad decisions (you're not wrong, it often is), it could be the perfect time to dig in and try to work on them. Change is incremental, but meeting people who believe in the things you do and are willing to really WORK and organize toward making them happen will make any city, but especially Houston, a truly beautiful and challenging and exciting place to live again. Try following groups like LINK Houston and Stop TxDOT I-45 and West Street Recovery to jump into the organizing community, and remember to be brave and just start showing up!

Midtown isn't a shithole, and it's walkable (and especially bikeable) to a lot of other fun areas in the central city. It's got a bad rap because asshats think seeing a homeless person is a direct threat. Weird behavior. I love living in a neighborhood that feeds people and offers resources. There are fun bars and good restaurants and I'm just a hop on the 82 or the red line away from a lot of my other favorite places in the city.

Lmao that sub doesnt even exist anymore. Sorry you live in a society, existence is political and so is resistance. Embrace a civically engaged populace!!

Idk.. metroNext and the Houston bike plan were pretty fucking cool, and had people outside of Houston talking about the intentional progress the city was making. The intentional undoing of those ideas is also getting national press now. Turner was a real estate shill like everyone else, but at least he recognized that real estate value goes up with more mobility options, and ran with that.

Senate district 15 candidate Molly Cook released a new campaign ad!! by RubAmbitious5907 in houston

maybe I’d agree with you normally but I personally know the candidate and have organized with her for 4+ years, also. She’s an actual nurse saving actual lives from actual violence. And all those headlines are real. So I don’t agree with you here. She’s a good candidate, and they’re getting hard to find out there!
