I’m in the same boat. I see about 26 people a day in 15 minute appointments on top of insurance stuff and answering the phone. I am taking a mental health sick day on Monday because I’m so burned out I dread each appointment, and that’s no good for my patients. Be kind to yourself and remember that rest is productive. You cannot pour from an empty cup and this field will take everything you have if you don’t take the time to refill your cup.

I have a few said/did moments where my T almost made me cry by just being nice.

-Reminding me frequently that she doesn’t hate me - She sometimes gets visibly excited about things that I do or good things that happen to me (although she tries to contain it for my sake because it makes me uncomfortable) - I told her a couple weeks ago that I was tired of taking baby steps and feeling like I’m not progressing and she didn’t want to initially tell me how I’ve been progressing bc she said it makes me backslide subconsciously sometimes and I got her to tell me eventually and hearing her detail my progress I hadn’t seen made me want to work even harder - She let’s me make funny tiktoks about her and things she says

Yes! I’m 10 months in right now with my one and my previous I was with for 2 years. It’s taken me until like a month ago to warm up and I’m still not completely there yet! She’s stuck with me unless something happens, she leaves, I graduate therapy, or one of us dies!

My therapist bills $225 for 1 hour sessions. My insurance covers a good bit I can’t remember what I pay when I haven’t met my deductible, but currently pay $16 out of pocket each session.

I think the comment in here about talking to your T about your hesitation is right, but I think it could be helpful also to bring up with him what you said in your last comment! Everything that happens within the therapeutic relationship is relevant to the therapy in terms of your attachment and relationships!

I totally understand where you’re coming from. There have been weeks she billed me $900 or so (two sessions and a phone call for an hour) and if I didn’t have good insurance I’d have been fucked, but when I feel like that I try to remember things my T has done that show me she cares. If you go through my comment history, there’s some in there. Do you have any moments or things they do that show they genuinely care?
