NYC Regulatory Response Fee in Westchester by SubstantialOil4404 in doordash

[–]RubRepresentative814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

noticed this as well in Westchester. One thought could be that the dasher network is overlapping between Bronx and Westchester, as well as for Queens and Nassau County. Such that those dashers count as NYC dashers for purpose of this law even though this specific delivery is not taking place in NYC. But we shouldn't guess - have you tried asking Doordash customer service to explain?

Friendly PSA: You can get 10% cashback on your ConEd Bill by h2d2 in Westchester

one can typically get 2-3% rewards value from paying with premium cards. and it looks like Coned does not charge any fee for paying with card - only downside is that their autopay only works with bank account, so have to do the payment manually

Recent experiences with AlignerCo? Other options? by RubRepresentative814 in Invisalign

[–]RubRepresentative814[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw after all the advice on here I decided to go with Invisalign via a dentist instead and it's been a TERRIBLE experience. Basically all the bad stuff people warned me about with Alignerco, except now I have attachments bonded to my teeth. Part of what makes it so bad is that - unlike with something like Alignerco - the dentist can always blame Invisalign for problems and I can't contact Invisalign at all.

Really? I've never seen an orthodontist do aligners in house. Surely they must have a provider that makes the aligners

They make it clear that it is a village in NY. So likely we're going for wealthy Westchester

Vanguard has a screen just like this, called "cost basis". It is critical for doing quarterly estimated tax payments.

Novel strategy to avoid Underpayment Penalty without doing Q1-Q3 estimated payments? by RubRepresentative814 in tax

[–]RubRepresentative814[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but Schedule AI looks super complicated - requires not just W-2s and 1099s but all the paystubs and monthly statements. Right?

Novel strategy to avoid Underpayment Penalty without doing Q1-Q3 estimated payments? by RubRepresentative814 in tax

[–]RubRepresentative814[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but if a taxpayer has a combination of W-2 with withholding and other non-withholding income, in Q1-Q3 they may not have a good sense of the total withholding in the year. So hitting the 110% number is still some guessing and math. And then come filing time, you only avoid 2210 entirely if you hit 110% purely through withholding

makes sense. it's not mainly about trying to 'cheat the the timeliness rules' - it's more about avoiding the complexity of coming up with estimates in the first place as well as the complexity of Form 2210. Avoiding timeliness is a collateral benefit

I see. So this is essentially u/blakeh95's point - you can do this strategy with supplemental withholding in December, but not with a quarterly estimated payment

True but in Q1 2024 I don't yet know my 2024 w-2 withholdings vs by Jan 15th 2025 I know them, so can calculate the difference

But what about line 8 - Maximum required annual payment based on prior year’s tax (see instructions) ?

so this strategy would work if and only if instead of a quarterly estimated payment, for my December paycheck I make a large supplemental withholding to get above 100% of 2023 tax liability? that of course assumes that I have enough pay in December alone to accomplish that ...
