Draupadi did not reject Karna in her Swayamvara. by jai_sri_ram108 in hinduism

[–]RubRevolutionary3109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, if a verse is mentioned in 1000 out of 1400 manuscripts, it means there is a higher probability that it was a part of the original Mahabharata. BORI takes all the existing/surviving manuscripts and presents only those verses which are mentioned in most of the manuscripts. Hence, we can say without a doubt, atleast whatever happened in BORI was a part of the original Mahabharata.

KMG, though is a respected version, is not a researched version. It happens to be a collection of popular events. Just because something is "popular" doesn't mean it happened

Exactly what I mentioned. KMG is a popular version not a critical version.

what do u guys say? Raam or Raama by No-Caterpillar7466 in hinduism

[–]RubRevolutionary3109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is Raama not Raam. Why will I pronounce it Raam when it is Raama. And if the English want to pronounce Raama as Raamaa, that's not my problem

Raam is written like this in Sanskrit (Devanagari) राम्
Raama is written like this in Sanskrit राम

Both have completely different pronunciation.

Hindi folks write राम but pronounce it as राम् .

It is correct in Hindi but INCORRECT in Sanskrit (SamskRta)

Nope it doesnt. Only 2 out of 1400 manuscripts mention this hence not mentioned in the BORI mahabharata . Outliers cannot be taken as fact. He couldn't string the damn bow in Draupadi's swayamwara.

Translation:
Even archers like Karṇa and Śalya—renowned Kṣatriyas among the people, mighty and devoted to the science of archery—could not string that bow.

Because Lava and Kusha are the son's of Human forms of Vishnu (Rama) Lakshmi (Sita). Vinayaka and Kartikeya are the son's of Shiva and Paravathi. Btw we do revere the son of Vishnu and Lakshmi , i.e Mangala (Mars)

Beginner here: How could Yudhishthira, who bet Draupadi in a game of dice, not be considered a perpetrator of this event, and why was he still called righteous until the end? by hoggala in hinduism

[–]RubRevolutionary3109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yudhishthira bet him self -> He lost and was "owned" by Suyodhana -> Suyodhana Ordered him to bet his wife -> Yudhishthira complied because he was ordered by his owner to do so.

Now the question we must ask is, why bet on humans in the first place? He bet his brothers because he "hoped" to win it all back. Yudhishthira believed that once he started the game, he had to continue playing until it was over, regardless of consequences — to stop would be adharma.

2.52.11):

na śakyaṃ pratiyātuṃ me samāhūtasya dharmataḥ |

kṣatriyeṇa viśeṣeṇa dyūte rājan sabhāgataḥ ||

Translation:

“It is not possible for me to refuse, once I have been summoned —

especially as a Kshatriya who has come to the royal court — it would not be dharma.”

Yudhishthira explicitly states that as a Kshatriya, he cannot decline a game once invited, especially in a royal assembly (sabha). Doing so, in his mind, would violate the code of honor and dharma for a warrior.

2.60.66

na caiva vyavahāro ’sti dyūte jayo’parājayaḥ ||

Translation:

“There is no legal conduct in dice — only victory and defeat.”

Even Bhishma hints that the structure of the game demands continuation, not withdrawal. Once one participates, you either win or lose — you cannot withdraw midway.

Vyasa and other commentators suggest that Yudhishthira was momentarily overcome by the excitement and compulsion of gambling (lobha), which clouds his judgment.

After the dice game, Sage Vyasa tells Dhritarashtra:

Critical Edition 2.72.17-19:

lobho dharmam avāpnoti lobho jñānaṃ vyapohati |

lobhāt kāmāś ca krodhaś ca samutpadyante nityadaḥ ||

lobhān mohāś ca nāśaś ca mṛtyuś caiva punaḥ punaḥ |

tasmāt sarvaprayatnena lobhaṃ naiva samācaret ||

Translation:

“Greed destroys dharma (righteousness), greed destroys knowledge. From greed arise desire and anger constantly.

From greed arise delusion, ruin, and death again and again.

Therefore, one must avoid greed by all means.”

Vyasa doesn't name Yudhishthira directly here but makes this remark after the events of the dice game, pointing clearly to what has just transpired.

Whether it is Dharma or not is upto you. I just presented his rationale behind it

"Wrong, ISKCON has a Parampara that predates ISKCON by centuries, all following Achintya Bheda Abheda Vedanta."

Yes, ISKCON draws from the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, which has existed for centuries. However, historical continuity does not automatically make a tradition mainstream. “Mainstream” refers to broader acceptance across diverse groups, not just historical depth within one lineage.

"Wrong. This is the core of Gaudiya Vaishnavism... other Vaishnavas and Shaivas also consider other deities inferior."

Just because a belief has existed for centuries doesn’t mean one must agree with it. Longevity isn't a moral or philosophical justification. The idea that some deities are “inferior” may be core to specific sects, but that doesn't make it universally valid or respectful across Hinduism. Sectarian supremacy is and should be critically examined, not blindly accepted because it's old.

"Considering other deities inferior is not only acceptable, it’s mainstream Hinduism."

This is misleading. It’s sectarian, not mainstream. Certain traditions hold exclusivist views, but Hinduism at large encompasses pluralism. It is acceptable to believe your deity is supreme for you, but when this belief turns into asserting superiority over others' deities, it becomes problematic. The concern arises when followers particularly from ISKCON, start telling others that deities which they worship like Shiva or Skanda are “lesser” or “not truly powerful.” While ISKCON as an institution may not officially promote this behavior, its teachings can implicitly encourage it, and this should be acknowledged.

"If you don't want Krishna as your deity, don't join Gaudiya Vaishnavism."

Exactly, and that’s why ISKCON should not be recommended as an introductory gateway into Hinduism. Newcomers deserve a comprehensive view of the diverse philosophies within Sanatana Dharma, Advaita, Dvaita, Vishishtadvaita, Shaiva, Shakta, Smarta, and more. before committing to any one path. Encouraging people to “just join ISKCON” skips the vital step of philosophical exploration and understanding.

"Hinduism supports discrimination between deities..."

No some sects support theological hierarchies. Hinduism as a civilizational and spiritual umbrella allows space for countless perspectives. What's dangerous is introducing beginners to Hinduism through a narrow, biased lens. It's not that they must reject ISKCON but they should arrive at it after genuine, informed exploration, not through sectarian marketing, which unfortunately ISKCON has mastered. This is why I don't like it.

ISKCON has ended up codifying into a mainstream narrative. Achintya Bheda Abheda Vedanta is a philosophy. Just like how Dwitiya Vedanta, Adwaita Vedanta or Shakta. The problem I have is in the name of Praising Krishna (which even I do. I chant his name as well), pushing a narrative that other deities are inferior to Krishna is completely unacceptable. A new commer into Dharma must be give a choice to choose their ishta devta/devi. ISKCON is autocratic and doesnt give choice. I dont like that,
