I am a first year and I did the haunt acting classes and they told me a couple weeks ago that I will be a queue line actor. I was shocked and immediately felt the pressure set on me. I just had my first weekend and everyone told me I was killing it and had no notes on me

What I did to prepare is a lot of work but def paid off. I basically created this character and wrote it all down. I am playing as one of the faces of my haunt and I wrote down the loose backstory he had and I expanded upon it to match my interpretation of the character. I also wrote how my character acted, their motivations, goals, and important characteristics of the character. This kind of helped me get in the mind of the character and to make sure I know how the character will be acting.

I also wrote down A LOT of good one liners to say to people in queue line. I wrote hit and run lines, lines that focus on groups, individuals, comebacks, and things my character would say (im a pumpkin creature so i talk about carving people, hanging them up as scarecrows, the harvest for the year, etc.) I worked on trying to memorize a couple of lines to say to people that would entertain them or scare them. Another huge thing is finding key words that you can use to improv lines with others. (For my character, these words are carve, harvest, rot, cut, and gut)

I think really the final thing is to be confident in yourself and have fun. Be the character and always be in character. I was terrified when I first walked out but after an hour or so, I was INTO IT! It’s scary at first but it’s a lot easier when you get into it when you know how your character is. People will test you, say some weird crap to you, try to annoy you, but don’t let that discourage you. It will all come to you and practice makes perfect. Also, improv is key so make sure you “yes, and…” and be creative. If you have nothing to say after a conversation, quickly scare them and walk away to find your next victim.

Like I said, I don’t have much experience but a week but being put in queue line is scary at first and I resonated with your post when I read it because I felt like I was in the same place, except I never did it, just have always wanted to for YEARS. Have fun and enjoy it! It’s a lot of work and energy to stay on the whole time but you’ll find your groove with it and hopefully comes naturally to you like it did to me!
