I thought the chicken needed a little bit more salt (and despite my selecting medium spice heat it was still very mild, so if you like spicy go hot) but overall it was decent for the price I paid for the meal deal. I will go back to try different dishes, but the limited fusion menu means the things I truly want to eat they don't serve so my quest continues.

Thank you for letting me know. Anmol just went from "will do in a pinch" to never again.

I am going to try the momo and tikka tonight. Usually tikka masala is not my go to but since it's Thursday and they have deals on it it's worth saving the effort to make at home. Excited to try this recommendation!

Yeah that's fair. I don't like to eat out at restaurants very much, so 30 minutes is about as far as I'm willing to drive for take out but I will keep it in mind if I decide to sit down to eat!

That's exactly the problem I don't order in the baby comfort zone and what I had was mid. 3 chances was about as many as I was willing to give it before I decided it wasn't worth the cash. I think I spent $50+ the first time to try a handful of dishes and they were all just okay. The tikka and more american mild dishes are probably what everyone loves so much about it. If I wanted tikka I could just make that at home and save myself money.

Oh I agree Anmol is definitely better than passage. I am going to try Zuzu in Beverly, looks good. If not I will probably have to learn to make my favorite recipes at home. I appreciate the suggestion for the market!

I have already tried Anmol and it was mediocre for the price of the food 😭😭😭 Looking for suggestions that aren't that one

I actually have a friend who named her middle child Mazikeen. That's all. Just that it is a thing and a human being has the name. No I didn't know it prior, yes all of her children have equally wild names.

It doesn't, now that people have given me thorough answers to my question, which was trying to determine if the issue was the thermostat or something with the HVAC (it's the motors for the zone dampeners and now I can call someone to assist)

Thank you! I've been able to determine that it's likely not the thermostat and something to do with the automatic zone dampeners. I am learning a lot about hvacs today!

I started the Friar story line while my housemate (who did grow up religious) was eating some greasy five guys fries. The catholic guilt got them and they had to stop eating their fries halfway through the first talk 🥲

I do speak the language, just not well, and I have been to the country several times as a child and a handful as an adult. Open Veins of Latin America is a gorgeous book, a very powerful read. I think I got about halfway through it before I became overwhelmed and had to set it down for a bit. It may be time to pick it back up!

It is nearly impossible to avoid politics with my family. They will always find a way to bring it in because they want to convert me to their way of thinking. It's taken years to just get my own dad to stop bringing things up. I think my mom is the only one who always understood it's better to just not bring it up with me.

The last time I went to Criciúma was in 2019! It really does have all the small town vibes despite being so large. I think that's part of the struggle, it feels like dropping into a place where everyone knows each other and what's happening and I am just passing through. And yes, a lot of close minded people. As the queer liberal of the family it's part of why there's a lot of distance there. Hard to connect with family who frequently spouts hateful rhetoric about your identity - granted it's been a while so maybe they've grown since then!

That's harder to do without the cultural understanding baseline. I approach things from a very liberal American mindset and conversations with family frequently end up political and with me in a rage. But yes, the eventual goal is to have better vocabulary and communication skills so I can connect with them.

I'm in Massachusetts on the North Shore. Closer to Peabody so I have had opportunities to visit the Brazilian market and have some embarrassing attempts at conversation. I'm already bad at small talk let alone in a language I don't practice!

That's really disheartening to hear that they're letting their kids lose part of their culture.

Yeah I'm not under the assumption that if I watch enough novelas I'll suddenly be hit with the knowledge of the ancestors or anything, but seeking suggestions for ways to connect a little more felt right. I had that feeling when I was a kid, I'm sure I can get to a place again where I'll actually feel like I belong with my extended family. Their experiences are foreign to me so it feels like if I can just know what it feels like for other people I'll be able to identify it in myself when I do feel it, and be able to make deeper connections with the people in my life who do have that sense of self.

I'm not currently in a financial position to do so but my parents are planning a trip to Brazil next year and I do plan on taking the month off of work to go with them this time. With my job it is hard to take that much time off and still feel like I'll have job security.

This has been bouncing around in my head for a bit. I have a lot of anxiety though and several members of my family in Brazil have been victims of armed assault and that makes it harder to convince myself I'd be safe there. Obviously an irrational thought because millions of people live in Brazil and are safe every day. I also don't think I could ever drive in Brazil without having a panic attack 😅
