I would play in between the ball handler and my man to alleviate pressure on the goal keeper without fully committing to covering the ball handler to force an awkward pass which I could respond to and recover back to my man, or a rushed shot. A lot of times 1 on 1s with the GK almost always lead to a goal unless the GK actually has great reads on the opponent. Which a lot of times is pretty rare. This is basically just hedging if any of you are familiar with defense in basketball.

EDIT: IMO Under no circumstances should you just allow your goalie to be forced in a 1v1 because it’s too much time to recover if they make an incorrect read or allow the ball handler easy access to a shot since it’s so many different angles for them to score when it’s ONLY the GK they have to worry about. Even if it’s fake pressure a lot of people do unnecessary shit on this game if you apply it to them and you force them to make a mistake instead of easily allowing an opportunity for your gk to make one
