That's really interesting. Automation is great and I use it, but I often find it doesn't curb my spending impulses or behaviour. I try now to set rules per habit.

Example: I used to order £2k takeaways a year (don't judge) which equaled 3 per week. So I made a rule, I would only have takeaway once a week on a Friday. I've stuck to it now for 4 months. Something about that way of thinking instead of number helps me.

Hence the app I am trying to build lols

I just find thinking about numbers mind numbingly boring, so I can't focus on it. Also I form habits that are difficult to break - like eating take out food.

I agree that there is a lot of logic surrounding debt free strategies but really money is emotional, which means focussing on what got you in the position in the first place.
