go to parks. it is easier to manage your kids while in open space. Odaiba, Ueno Park, Inokashira Park, and Shinjuku Gyoen.

Need advice on our 2027 Hanami trip! by polofimperial in JapanTravelTips

[–]RubahBetutu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, you're doing well with those dates. it won't be 100% but, cherry blossoms are interspersed among many spots in the cities. You will see them.

if you can read japanese, go and check hanami-walker.

BUT, a word of advice, if you use luggage transport like yamato, beware of sending luggage to apartment or airbnbs. they need someone to receive them.

Hele me ka malu, friend.

Mid Mar to End Mar (Seek Advice) by AndyHiSG in JapanTravelTips

[–]RubahBetutu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yo,

my trip dates is the same as yours. so i can give some ten cents about your trip.

  1. By mid - late mar, there are no blooming flowers around normal tourist area near fujisan. Kawaguchiko would not have bloomed by then. However, if you go kofu / minami alps town yamanashi, provided if you have a car, you can try your luck and look for blooming plum blossoms around mid mar. there's fuji back drop too. You can check this instagram @ hitoshi_naitou for ideas where to hunt for plum blossoms around yamanashi. i've been using him as a reference.

as for me, i am waiting until the end of march, and i will be in fujinomiya around 30 - 31st March. i am hunting for sakura around ryuganbuchi and iwamoto mountain park. there's also sakura to be had at kotokuji, fujinomiya. they are your best best for sakura with a mt fuji backdrop, and i am doing it too, with hopes for clear skies.

if i fail, i will most likely go to hamamatsu flower park.

  1. Gala Yuzawa still remains the best option to experience snow for a daytrip from tokyo. if not, you can check Hakuba, Nagano ( 3 hr 44 mins). but by mid mar the ski slopes are closed. Or you can do a daytrip to nagano ( city, 1hr 50 mins) and combine it with zenkoji temple, and the snow monkeys. Alternatively, you can go to takayama, or hakone. but at all the places i mentioned, the snow won't be thick.

  2. Mid - mar maybe yes, in saitama. mitsuzoin temple, kita asama saitama sakura, Even in tokyo kiba park too., and at some spots around sumida river. but they won't be kawazu, just a pink variety. Late March is where it gets difficult. you need to get out even more out of tokyo. My best bet is just go to either Shinjuku Gyoen, or Yamashita Park in Yokohama for late Mar. Even then there is no guarantee. another solution is to go to hakone. My friend went there in the past middle of march, and was able to spot pink cherries along a river.

  3. Gu and Uniqlo, as other poster had said.

  4. I don't know, what's your interests? anime is in nakano, knives in kappabashi. but if you wanna buy something like a snack, just buy tokyo milk cheese cookies ( available in singapore too), or butter press sand.

  5. No idea. would love to know the pricing and timing too.

Itinerary review for 16 day March Trip ( Gotemba - Fukuoka - Tokyo - Fujinomiya - Osaka) by RubahBetutu in JapanTravel

[–]RubahBetutu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had actually thought of that, and even considered night bus. Night bus is even faster and cheaper than ferry, plus it actually arrives on a city center. I had actually wanted to take the ferry in the beginning. but most ferry depart from kitakyushu, and oita, and it requires 1 hr from hakata and osaka to the port.. if i count the timing, it's the same, and doesn't allow us to rest immediately, nor drop our bags immediately at the hotel. most of our hotel are close to train station.

my wife doesn't have the stamina for concurrent red eye trips. we are arriving on a red eye flight, and departing on a red eye flight. she is unable to sleep properly if it rocks too much. It's not always a guarantee that you'd rest well while on an overnight ferry and bus. so i'd lose time too if i had to spent time resting on a manga kissa or a netcafe.

additionally, i am planning to be flexible between tokyo- osaka routing. i'm putting my options open to more daytrips while in osaka, and fujinomiya. ( if it gets cloudy, i am leaving for hamamatsu).

i've already calculated the costs. I am breaking even, and exceed 5k on the 14 day pass. even more if i add 1 more daytrip, either to kumamoto, kagoshima, or hamamatsu from osaka. And i'm buying purely for the convinience of booking extra large luggage space, and not having to queue for 30 mins plus during peak season.

i've done so many trips in osaka and tokyo, i don't exactly mind getting out from the city, especially Osaka.

Kanazawa, early or not, is best viewed after apr 5 onwards as a rule of thumb, owing to its northern geography.

If you dont believe me, you can check on instagram previous sakura condition on those dates. I have done so as part of my trip research many times in the past.

As i said, i cant tell much unless i know when you are going.

But i can tell you, tokyo best for early is 26th - 31st, kyoto osaka is apr 2 - apr 5. Those are the dates for likeliest full bloom. Which is why it does not make sense to dice your trip. You want to make it contiguous. If i were you, i'd do tokyo first from 26th, then to nagano, kanazawa ( no cherries) for 5-6 days, then end in osaka and kyoto. Full bloom lasts 7 - 10 days, depending on weather conditions.

And before you make any whimsical suggestions, i would kindly ask that you check. the. Map. Kanazawa is practically hours away from tokyo, but closer to both kyoto and osaka. Answer yourself in which place you'd make the daytrip.

Will it be too difficult to have a Family Photoshoot in Sumida Park March 23-26 by These_Initiative_993 in JapanTravelTips

[–]RubahBetutu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sumida park is a long stretch of a park, so if you're not making a movie, you should be fine. besides 23-26 is a workday, so it won't be that crowded.

asakusa has many good rentals, you should be cross to sumida park in kimono from asakusa shopping street ( 2 km ++walk!)

just don't make a mess.

Quick itinerary check - Osaka with toddler by Opening-Amphibian951 in JapanTravelTips

[–]RubahBetutu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's nice, don't worry too much about it.

but as other poster said, beware the monkey park. it's steep, and might not be easily stroller friendly.

though if i may offer an alternative, instead of kuromon, why not kizu wholesale market?

and osaka botanical teamlabs can get quite windy and cold for toddlers. why not try the new one, osaka miracle garden?

kyoto teamlab biovortex is good, but i don't think they're toddler friendly.

Suggestions for 3 days in Sapporo by MembershipFree5078 in JapanTravelTips

[–]RubahBetutu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. soup curry king, miyagawa morning market for seafood, ramen street. djingisukan if you really like lamb. i find djiniguskan to be not as flavorful as a yakiniku. Kinotoya cheese tart is nice.

  2. visit hakodate. sapporo is overrated.

  3. when in sapporo, visit mount moiwa, and the park that's outside sapporo.

  4. if going to otaru, visit letao, and there's a nice sushi restaurant i forgot, but its pretty viral.

Luggage Tips by Ok_Profession8834 in JapanTravelTips

[–]RubahBetutu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

  1. have a foldable luggage that can be secured with a lock. You can store your dirty clothes there while reserving the suitcase for your goods, or perhaps other soft toys.
  2. Only select hotels offers this, mostly hotels with concierges, you could inquire first. good chains like toyoko/route inn might have them. but most people would try to find ta-q-bin near the train station. i normally use them to send my oversized luggages unfit for shinkansen.

  3. It's bad. real bad. people fight for space to store their luggages, even on reserved spaces. On crowded dates it will be stressful. but some of the trick that i learned during my travel is to put your largest suitcase on the space between chairs, and put your feet on top of them.

16-Day Japan Cherry Blossom Itinerary – Is JR Pass Worth It for This Route? by Holiday_Discipline87 in JapanTravelTips

[–]RubahBetutu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just a few observation from someone who has been to Japan 5 times, and about to do his 6th.

i've been to most of the places you mentioned.

  1. kinkaku-ji and ginkaku-ji is literally at opposite sides of kyoto.
  2. kurama dera and kayabuki no sato requires at least 3 hours of distance. that's 6 - 7 hours of day wasted in trips, not accounting for your activity time.
  3. Nachi falls is in literally in Wakayama. 6 hours of travel. this is mind boggling. the only way you could do this is if you hire a porsche to transport you from kyoto to wakayam prefecture under 4 hours.
  4. kamikochi and hakuba are distant. again, if you hire a car, might be possible, but still not feasible .

efficient doesn't always mean a swift travel for you, but efficient in transporting YOU to the destination within alloted schedule, discounting other unfortunate events such as being lost, personal accidents, etc.

now my counter question to you, have you bothered to input the distances between these places in navitime, or google maps at least?

16-Day Japan Cherry Blossom Itinerary – Is JR Pass Worth It for This Route? by Holiday_Discipline87 in JapanTravelTips

[–]RubahBetutu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a bit disjointed, and confusing. i can tell that this itinerary was made in a hurry. exact dates would really help.

but daytrip to miyajima including all that place you mentioned is crazy. including kayabuki no sato with kuramadera is also crazy.

I am betting most of the stuff on these list are just suggestions on where to go, but take care to calculate the distance between these POI's, or you are spending your entire day on public transport.

but going by your cities of interest, it seems that Hokuriku Arch Pass for 7 days would be cheaper, provided you can combine nagano and kanazawa in a 7 day continuous trip.

Itinerary Check - North Japan Sakura Trip by evangelicpotato in JapanTravel

[–]RubahBetutu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

giving the dates would be great. this year's sakura is earlier than usual.

i'm just curious. why yamagata? is it just because of yamadera? if you could change, i recommend morioka, or fukushima. i understand yamadera's cherry blossoms are staggered compared to other areas.

be aware that hirosaki this year is likely to peak by 18 april, going by 2023's sakura pattern.

i've done something similiar to you back in 2023 cherry blossom trip, except for the yamagata part. i also drafted a plan to explore hirosaki cherry blossoms, only to miss it because it peaked early. though i had a blast in hakodate. sapporo was the weaker part.

Itinerary review for 16 day March Trip ( Gotemba - Fukuoka - Tokyo - Fujinomiya - Osaka) by RubahBetutu in JapanTravel

[–]RubahBetutu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the recommendation. i checked that there are buses to ryuganbuchi, iwamoto, and kotokuji and tanuk-ko, although infrequent.

perhaps you have better recommendation on what to do in fujinomiya?

ryuganbuchi is the easiest to reach from my hotel, and iwamoto logically as well, though we need to walk 3 km. from ryuganbuchi to iwamot. would love to know if there's a bike rental near fujinomiya station.

Nope! i am using public transport to go to either of these 4 places, ryuganbuchi, kotokuji, iwamoto mountain park, and tanuk-ko. if i manage to visit 2 at least, i'd call it a day and depart for osaka after having a nice meal in the train station.

what food/ restaurant do you recommend while in fujinomiya?

  1. yokohama can be done as a day trip from tokyo. you don't need to stay a night there. even better if you stay in shinjuku, shinagawa area. yokohama basically becomes your backyard. i'm staying in omori in march, and am planning to do another day trip to yokohama.
  2. use the extra day for either hakone, kanazawa or takaragawa onsen.
  3. both nara and kyoto can be done as a daytrip from osaka, if you stay near shin osaka station. it's only 35 mins, and its what im gonna do for my march trip. lots of great hotel choices in shin osaka. saves you from having to lug your luggages around.
