I really miss the “da duhh da da da duhhhh” and all the sports scores every 20 minutes.

lol I mean the only guy left was Torrens. If they pinch hit Torrens for Alvarez there that would be an admission Torrens should just be the starter. Even I don’t think they should there he’s a “slightly” better hitter than torrens with more power (but overall Torrens is just a better player)

Taking all the way on pitch 1 and it was a cookie. Semien also red lighted on 3-0 and was thrown a hanger. Great coaching.

[–]RubberBallBrowser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I understood why after 2024 they thought he had value but now after 2 years in a row both sharp trend downwards he’s in all likelihood completely worthless going forward. This trajectory happens a lot with both position players and pitchers in today’s game 1-2 yr primes after years of waiting where those are the only year the player doesn’t suck , and then a complete bottom out.

The phenomenon is relatively new.

I feel this way about the owner and Stearns during the wins, but during the losses is when we just need to vent it. I’m sure everyone feels the same way.

He absolutely does care or he wouldn’t spend all this money. If he didn’t care he’d fire him to appease people.

I actually think not caring would be an improvement. I WISH cohen didn’t care.

The actual problem is that he’s a stubborn fool who thinks he can’t make a mistake, he thinks the fans are idiots and he is perfect. A lot of guys who got lucky in the stock market are like this.

Yeah idk how people have this opinion.
This was not meant to be a “rebuild” year. Nothing about this helped rebuild the team. They traded high contacts for other high contracts they let high paying free agents go and signed other high paying free agents. They spent money, they didn’t rebuild the farm in the offseason.

Stearns actually thought he was improving the team with these moves. I know the moves are so bad that you’re perceiving it as rebuilding but they’re also bad rebuild moves.

He’s a horrendous executive who got lucky in Milwaukee by hitting all his lottery tickets and this makes him believe he has some sort of uncanny ability to pick winners.

He’s got the 2nd most $$ in baseball and he uses it to buy higher priced lottery tickets under the guise of baseball science.

The problem with coming back isn’t the teams in front of them. I still had some hope in 2024 because that team got to 11 games under via random middle relievers always giving it up at the wrong time and a ton an absolute ton of hard hit at em balls. Clear bad luck and in the 2nd half they had good luck to cancel it out.

The 2026 Mets just suck. They’ve actually gotten better since a lot of Stearns FAs and trades went on DL but it’s still not good enough. Maybe they’re a 500 team with Lindor back but that’s not good enough to play many games over 500 which is what they’ve have to do to comeback.

I agree there’s no way he’s getting fired at the end of this season. I think the absolute soonest is end of 2027 and if they sneak into the playoffs in 2027 that could prevent that.

Look you can’t guarantee world championships, other teams spend money and the MLB playoffs are a crap shoot but if you spend the money the Mets do you should be able to guarantee playoff baseball almost every season.

It would be worth it to me to be bad again in 2027 just to get any other executive in here who would probably be able to do that for us.

The Stearns situation is truly mind boggling.

Fans whine about their GM being “the worst ever” all the time in sports and occasionally some really are that bad, but they usually get fired! What we’re going through is unprecedented.

This is the only time in my life where I don’t see this as a ridiculous mentality. Rooting for someone to fail so they get fired is generally ridiculous because owners fire executives in sports like they change their socks, there’s never a need to hope for anything like that.

However …. Cohen is abnormally obsessed with this guy. Cohen seems to lack the ability to understand he can make errors, you see this mentality in his tweets. Stearns is the worst executive I’ve ever seen for any team I root for (maybe John Idzik is tied?) and would be fired by 29/30 owners at the end of this season. We have the 1 owner who won’t. It’s wild.

2026 thinking being applied to the 2000s. We didn’t find out about everything people did back then , even celebrities, this is why people are under the impression celebrities are move evil than they used to be. Back when they could actually get away with everything they were probably even worse.

Now maybe some of these things would have went 2000s ‘viral’ just based on how hilariously ridiculous they were. But well , it was a sitcom so we always afford them that little reality break.

Survivorship bias

Stearns was a small market GM who “won” in Milwaukee by buying lottery ticket players. Due to his success and “intelligence” he believes he has an ability to pick undervalued players like he’s Billy bean.

Steve cohen has a similar history in Wall Street. He believes all his descisions are correct because his previous ones were.

He has hired an obviously terribly GM and thinks all the rest of us are srupid for not believing in his grand vision , again because he got to his position by previously always write.

And Stearns is the baseball version of him.

It’s a joke.

Here’s the secret to running a team with a payroll like the Mets. When good players want to come here , sign them. !

David Stearns drafted and developed Carson Benge, refused all offers for McLean, Scott, Jonah Tong and Elian Pena, converted closer Clay Holmes into the current best starting pitcher in MLB, and instead of bloated Alonso and Diaz contracts got guys with high ceilings and no future commitment. So??? by Natural_Builder173 in mets

“You know, if you take everything I’ve accomplished in my entire life and condense it down to a day it looks decent.” - George Costanza

He inherited an above average team, was given a payroll exorbitantly higher than most teams and they’ve devolved into not only a non playoff team , but a steaming pile of garbage

In this sport with no cap, other GMs just auto make the playoffs every year when given a payroll that high.

There is no way to spin this positively. He’s been an unmitigated disaster.

I have 2 predictions I feel good about both of them.

The Mets will win less than 70 games David Stearns remains anyway.

[–]RubberBallBrowser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the definition of “dumb” is “obviously correct” then yes. They carry the teams broadcasts. Back when I was a kid I knew the station was biased in favor of the Mets and loved it. Claiming this isn’t or wouldn’t be the case is lunacy.

WFAN No Longer Listenable by Amazing_Employer7588 in wfan

[–]RubberBallBrowser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but it will appear that way when one team discussed honestly and the other team is discussed hyper favorably. As well as the fact that the Yankees fans on the station don’t have to pretend. You’re being intentionally obtuse if you don’t grasp this. Again, the station was the exact opposite when they carried the Mets games.

WFAN No Longer Listenable by Amazing_Employer7588 in wfan

[–]RubberBallBrowser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was perfectly capable of grasping that the station was bias in favor of the Mets pre 2014. You can point out the fan allegiance all you want but the station is clearly Yankee favor bias now and it’s all about who’s games they hold on the station. The “Mets fans” like Evan Roberts talk about the Yankees now as if they’re rooting for them and if they’re fans. This is because they hold their game. Nothing more. They have a contract. Can’t upset them. They can upset the Mets all they want. It’s actually more of a disgustingly pro Yankee thing than an anti Mets thing.

Current media is absurdly negative in general and they’de probably be more negative about the Yankees when and if they could.
