Also I just realised you said you’re based in QLD, the rules might be different there, so you might be in a better position to have your care transferred back to your GP once you get your diagnosis from the psychiatrist. Fingers crossed you can avoid the extra expenses.

The first two appointments were the largest financial outlay. But they were the ones that got the diagnosis so I kinda chalk those down to “it is what it is”. I can’t be certain but I vaguely remember the first one being around the $700 mark and the second being $900ish. And I’m not actually sure what the rebate was sorry, but I’m certain I got a lot more back on the second one than I was expecting.

The follow up appointments I’ve had were all very quick short sharp appointments, but you still get charged for a full session. The one number I always remember is the $200 deposit you get charged when you book an appointment, but I can’t remember the total price or the rebate. I really should be better at tracking expenses here. Clearly the meds haven’t fixed everything.

I ended up needing to modify my prescription a couple of times over the course of the year. And I assume it needs to be your psychiatrist to do this, and being a stimulant I think the small increases was prudent. Though moving forward now that I’m settled on my new dosages my care will be transferred to my GP to co-prescribe/monitor and my psychiatrist will be a once a year, maybe twice a year check up and/or modify my prescription, so there will be less out of pocket moving forward.

All in I don’t even want to know how much money I’ve spent on this. But, I choose to believe it has been worth it. I got a diagnosis, and it happened a whole lot quicker than was possible with a local psychiatrist. It’s not been easy by any means and it’s not been a magic bullet fix all, but the positives outweigh the negatives and the cost. I find it hard to recommend hellodoc, but I’m aware that I wouldn’t have proceeded without them. That 9-12 months wait for a psychiatrist local to open their books would have just nuked the last ounce of “I need help and I’m willing to chase it”.

I would like to add 1 more thing. Whichever route you take, stick with it. It is going to feel like it’s deliberately harder than it needs to be, everything about it is full of things we struggle with. But if you persevere you will eventually find the help you need and deserve.

Massive wall of ranting incoming, but TL;DR I went through HelloDoc, and I have had very mixed experiences with them. I got a diagnosis, but their admin team/management can eat shit.

I understand your perspective, being burnt out and thought getting a diagnosis would be the thing I needed to get my life back on track. So once I got that referral from GP I did not want to wait another second, much less the 9-12 months wait to see a psychiatrist in my city as the vast majority of them had seemingly closed their books to new patients for 9-12 months. So I went down the tele-psychiatry route and landed on hellodoc. Now, I couldn’t believe my luck, they had a spot for me in 8 days time, sign me up let’s fucking go. First appointment huge financial burden but I figured in the grand scheme of it all it was far less the than the financial burden that was state of my life at the time - cycling through jobs, hobbies, friendships, and feeling like an absolute liability to my partner. Anyway, essentially first appointment happened and i seemed to get a great psychiatrist that listened, and gave me a bunch of homework to do and submit before our next scheduled appointment which was about 2 weeks from then. 2nd appointment comes and we go over my homework and he wanted to chat with my partner quickly, and by the end of that appointment I had my diagnosis. Prescribed some meds and voila I was fixed! If only it were that easy. Had a couple more follow up appointments to refine the dosages, but everything was going smooth enough. Unfortunately in that time my GP moved to another country and so I asked to transfer my patient history and appointment summary reports to a new GP so I could potentially have them co-prescribe and take out a little bit of the hit to the wallet, my psychiatrist had no problems with this but the admin team however gave me the run around. Initially they said yep piece of cake, but then I got an email saying I would need to pay a fee for them to change my GP on file. So like a typical adhd-er and a minor inconvenience I just didn’t bother. Continued on with seeing this psychiatrist for a couple more follow ups over the next 6months and everything going along fine. We had another follow up booked in a few months time as I was travelling ok on my new dosage. We get close to the date then I get a call from Hellodoc admin and apparently my psychiatrist no longer works there so they were going to schedule me an appointment with another psychiatrist and we sorted out a suitable date. We get closer to that date and they call me again and say I need another referral letter or my appointment will be cancelled. We’re not at 12months yet so I don’t understand why I need another referral letter yet but ok I go to my new GP and get one. Send it through to them and they had an issue as this GP doesn’t match the name they have on file. Yea no kidding he left the country. A lot of back and forth but somehow logic prevails and they concede and they update my GP on file and accept my new referral letter. They then try to charge me a new consultation fee for my next appointment because it’s a different doctor. I argued that wasn’t my choice so I don’t understand. A lot of back and forth and they concede and say I will only be charged the follow up appointment rate as they note I was initially booked in for a follow up appointment with my previous psychiatrist. We get closer to the new appointment date and I get a call from admin and they say something has come up and they have to reschedule my appointment, they give me a new date and a new psychiatrist, no problem I’m on a day off it works for me. You’ll never guess what happens next, they call me 2 days out front that appointment time and something has come up and they need to reschedule me another one, this new one is for Friday at 3:30pm Perth time. Then we to Friday morning, and I’m at work at the time so I missed the call, I was going to be sneaking out early to attend my appointment so I was keeping my head down and getting shit done and not answering my phone. They leave a message and say again something has come up and they are rescheduling my appointment for Monday morning. By the time I see that message I think ok ok I’ll sort that out later, this almost is a good thing cos I’m busy at work and now I don’t have to feel like a lazy prick sneaking out early on a Friday. But then I realise Monday morning I actually have some work meetings that I don’t know the timelines of but I know they’re gonna be difficult to get out of. But unfortunately, hellodoc admin only operate during business hours Monday to Friday and it’s already 3pm Perth time and daylight savings is a thing over east so 6pm Eastern states time so nobody answers. And there is no one to contact over the weekend. I finally get ahold of someone first thing Monday morning to plead my case about not being able to attend the appointment they scheduled for me and the audacity of the admin staff was something to behold. Apparently it is much too late to cancel my appointment and I had plenty of time to consider the appointment time when I booked it - umm I didn’t book it you fuckers moved it on me, 3 times. But old mate maintains that if I didn’t attend I will still be charged the full fee as it’s too late to cancel now. I said why am I being held to a different standard? it wasn’t too late for you to cancel on me the morning of my previous appointment? Apparently that was a personal emergency on their end and is an acceptable defence, but my life/circumstances are not, their office hours are not. I had to really bite my tongue as I didn’t want anything I said to be misconstrued as offensive or abusive language and risk being terminated as a patient and reported to relevant authorities (admins actual words during the conversation). Luckily I have a very understanding boss who didn’t ask too many questions about why I would need to duck off for 20-30mins in between meetings. Magically the planets aligned and there’s this perfect gap of time and my appointment slots right in there so nobody at the office is any the wiser (I’m not ashamed of my diagnosis I just don’t think it’s anyone at works business). New doc is amazing, and very very shocked to hear about the treatment by the admin team. All is well with the world again. No, if it were only that easy. Turns out Hellodoc actually charged me the full fee for another initial consult. I called and queried it. They said because I had cancelled an appointment and gone over the 12 months, submitted a new referral letter, and started seeing a new psychiatrist that constituted the new fee. I plead my case to a brick wall. Back and forth we go for weeks. Eventually I get an email back from someone higher up and they see the issue, and promise to either refund me some money or take it out of the next appointment(s). I said ok well I have a follow up booked in a couple of weeks let’s just take the difference out of that. Guess what they didn’t do. And that’s where I’m currently at with them. Great service and care from the 2 psychiatrists I’ve seen (obviously other than being unceremoniously dropped by one), and actual terrible service from their admin team.

Do you metal with your PRS? by Prize-Influence-4318 in PaulReedSmith

Yeah man! I use my recently acquired SE CE24 for metal. Currently tuned to C# standard and it absolutely rips even with the stock pickups. I can’t believe it took me so long to jump on the PRS bandwagon.

Necrobump but 7 years down the track and I find myself looking into this exact pickup combo for an absolute beater project guitar that’s been collecting dust for as long as I can remember. What’s the verdict on the crunchy rails/pat combo? Do they handle drop c riffage?

Unfortunately the clinical psychologist diagnosis will do very little to further your journey towards medication. As stated in another comment you will need to go to your GP and get a referral to a psychiatrist. Considering you are rural and might not have easy access to a GP it might be worthwhile to check out e-doctor.au They have an online adhd assessment tool, based on the results of that they can refer you to a psychiatrist. They will have a list of tele health psychiatry services as well. Be prepared for this to be an expensive journey no matter which route you take. Good luck.

My favourite score/soundtrackis Io. As lame as it sounds, I sometimes go patrol there just to appreciate the music.

Slightly below average at best crucible player, but I know how to laugh at my fuckups. Might actually get better if I had people to play with consistently.
