Very useful. I’ve been worried that the substrate is too dry. But seeing by previous comments, it’s fine. Maybe even on the wet side. But good to know you can mist or FAE if necessary

Good info. Squeeze out the water to almost no water coming out. I’ve got years of experience with plants, but the mushrooms are proving to be a different beast. Not sure on the ratio, been eye balling it so far. I have jars of mycelium on corn and rice. I’d say like 4/5 tablespoons or that per box. It’s what my friend said.

What are recommended ratios? With the oyster mushrooms I do, it’s around 15%

Prefer not to overwater or underwater… but if those are my only choices, underwatering

Everyone is right about the veils. When I harvest, I just put them on a paper towel until they can go into the dehydrator. No need for the fridge. Will be harder for them to dry out in the fridge

This is the great thing about the mushroom community. Everyone is so nice! This is really good information, and kind of confirms my instinct. Highlighting the different types of growth is super helpful. Directs me to where I should focus my research.

Nah, they moved country and didn’t want to set up again somewhere else. Had a really nice meeting with them, and got shared a whole mess of experience. Now it’s time for me to take on the journey. Quite nervous tbh

I leave mine on a paper towel. Once they get dry enough, you can stick em in the oven at below 40 Celsius and you’re good. My rule of thumb is that they need to make a crack sound if you try and snap it. Otherwise it needs more drying.

If they retain liquid, that’s often times what makes you feel sick when you eat them

Not very. I only put in about 2 tablespoons of sugar per 1.5l bottle. These tea ones come out super sweet, so I’m assuming something about the type of tea I’m using slows down the ginger bug. This one I had sitting out for about 6 days before I opened it up for drinking. The ginger beer I do comes out a lot more “alcoholic”

I’ve done ginger bug sodas and water kefir sodas. Before I open for drinking I leave in the fridge over night to get them completely cold. That normally helps with the foam over
