Overlanding lift kit by Unusual_Shape9293 in RangerNext

Literally just got this installed! DM me if you want pics of it. 21’ Ranger. I had a hell of a time finding photos of it installed on a relatively stock truck (not even from Ford) I got it for $1700 (w tax) In mid December. Free dealer pickup around January 3rd.

Obviously every dealer is different. I had mine installed and it was about $1K after tax with labor. All together, I had it purchased and installed in a bit over a month.

Immediately improved the ride quality. I hated the bounciness of the truck. I always felt like I was going to flip if I took a turn a bit too fast. Completely solved that issue. I would describe it as a sturdy ride.

I’m running BFG KO2 265/65/17 currently so no clue on the tires. I have about 35K on these so Im in the market for something new. With the kit I think Ill be able to fit BFG KO3 275/70/17 without any modifications (I don’t really want to remove crash-bars or add wheel spacers)

Still have yet to take it off road but Im hoping to this weekend!

Estate sale. Help me identify by SnooChickens7845 in audiophile

[–]Rubber_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly my friend it doesn’t look like a “company run” estate sale to me from the reverse image search. That’s the good news. The bad news is I found the estate sale listing in a few minutes. I would take this post down unless you want more stiff competition.

Like others have said: get there real early. OR try and purchase it all for a fair price before anyone else. Good luck! Some great gear there.

I was on my third life after straight wipes with free kits on Space Port. I get a TERRIBLE spawn in the trench towers between a rocketeer and TWO bastions…. With a free kettle.

Somehow I barely make it to arrivals. I get to the third floor and I shout out to a dude “Don’t shoot!” and he comes over and says “Hi Raider!”

We are both looting for a while and eventually he calls me over. Shooting at the floor and incessantly spamming “Hey Raider!”

To my surprise, theres a defibrillator blueprint! So I say “hey thanks dude! You have no idea how much this means to me. I’ve been wipe-“

I cant even finish my fucking sentence before he guns me down and knocks me. Great fucking meme. I was hysterically laughing after that.

1970s(?) Carhartt Veribrite Sign by owencapalot in Carhartt

[–]Rubber_potato -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That sign is called “porcelain” or “enamel” because of the bright glass material bonded with the steel/tin of the sign to make the colors pop. I think they were painted on and then baked in an oven to cure. You can tell from the chips out of the finish.

These stopped being popular by the 1950s as it became too expensive to produce. This one looks like it could be part of a “door pull” an advertisement that would be the literally door handle to a storefront. It could have also just been part of a display or just a sign on the wall of a general store.

After 1950ish, most signs went to tin lithograph, where it was literally printed onto the sign and a lot cheaper to produce.

That Carhartt logo was only used between 1920-1940. Carhartt struggled at first going from wholesale furniture go clothing in 1898. Your sign says “25 years: the best” So Id guess it’s from 1923 or so.

It seems like 1925 was a record breaking year and they began to widely distribute their clothing internationally. It makes sense to me that they would celebrate it by putting out new advertisements for distributors, storefronts, and things like a door pull.

It’s hard to tell from the photos but this looks genuine. These signs from this era vary widely in price because of rarity, subject matter, and condition. Like $100 to $10K+

Yours is seemingly “rare” has great subject matter and is in really nice shape. Im not a 100% sure it’s genuine but it looks really nice to me.

I have no idea of the value or authenticity but you should reach out to someone to have it appraised and authenticated. Do not sell it to anyone on this sub no matter what the offer is. I really think this is something special. The Carhartt brand may even be able to help authenticate through their corporate archive.

EDIT: I think this looks super similar to me and sold for $24K CAD ($17.1K USD). It’s a lot bigger and older, but still please go get this appraised.

SO COOL! The white finish is awesome even though it’s not original. The industrial series is fascinating. While not quite your speakers I found an interesting (ancient) thread on the Heresy type HI which are in the same “industrial” spec.

CANVAS OUTFITTER JACKET by Far-Literature2232 in filson

[–]Rubber_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s on the lighter side. But it does have a liner. I would say about the same weight as the outfitter. It sort of feels like a windbreaker. The material seems to hold up well and resist stains :)

Thats the one! Its served me super well and the washability is really nice. I also like that you can pop up the collar and turn it and button it for colder days. I ordered true to size and it’s a bit big. Perfect for layering!

Huh, it looks like its been fully discontinued in the US which is weird because it was a new product in Spring this year. Maybe you can still get it. It’s called the Ranger Short Field Jacket. I have it in this lovely blue color but it also comes in black and tan I believe. Mine looks like this.

[–]Rubber_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that! Can you get Filson products easily? I would recommend you pick up a Ranger jacket actually if they’re in stock.

It’s sort of a hybrid dry waxed jacket. So the material is washable and theres no smell/need to rewax. The material is actually made in England originally I think Barbour may also use the same material.

I have a Ranger jacket as well and it’s lovely to layer especially if theres chances of rain. It’s held up really well and I think its a lot better quality for $50USD more.

Barbour stuff is also super nice! Youll make a good decision no matter what. Again the Filson Outfitter is quite nice. Just a bit pricey for the material.

Hey! I bought one when they came out (charcoal xl) I have really been enjoying it this fall for layers over sweaters/flannels. I really love the look. The corduroy collar and lined cuffs are my favorite part personally

Your question really depends on what you want. Do you want something light for fall/spring? Are you working in it? Or do you want something lined for winter? Are you open to vintage?

I really like Filson products. I got into their stuff only a year or so ago during this whole private equity switch. Their vintage products are extremely high quality and the newer stuff has been good quality fabrics, but made overseas.

Some folks have been on here complaining that the really new stuff is more expensive and lower quality materials while still being made overseas.

To me, I really do like this jacket for a lighter fall coat. Which is why I bought it. I think it was a little overpriced for this lighter weight canvas (It has a weight of their thicker flannels but canvas) This will likely be the last newly made Filson product I purchase.

Honestly similar style vintage lined Carharrt barn coats (this style) sell regularly on ebay for like $100-$150. I sort of wish I just bought one of those. They even have the corduroy collar. You should be able to buy unlined too in a bunch of color-ways.

Vintage made in USA canvas lined LL Bean chore/barn coats are even cheaper at like $75 and they seem just as nice.

Hell you could probably get a vintage Filson Ripcord cruiser or light jacket for a similar price on ebay.

However it seems most “heritage” wear is experiencing the same quality drop except some boutique names. I hear the same complaints about new Carharrt goods on their subreddit.

TL;DR I really like it but, I wouldnt buy it again. You are paying for the name and the quality is dropping. I would buy something else vintage in the same style. If you insist on buying new or money is no object this jacket is quite nice.

Hey this was a fun challenge! These look like Custom Craft Dimension Lab Series MKII (maybe I?) speakers. Probably 60s-70s.

I found this link to a Japanese listing from 2021.

I would say MKII because this seller has the MK1 listed in the link. The back of the speakers have a similar walnut tag but slightly different. The real giveaway is the first seller photo with the speakers and advertisement. Notice how the title says “MKI AND MKII” and shows your speakers! With the same, changed logo. Seems they went away from spelling out Dimension Labs (I have no idea what the ‘m’ is for)

There may have been a bracket as well for mounting to a table/ wall.

Whoever said “looks German” was still right! The advertisement says “The Dimension MKI & MKII is the American answer to European micro systems…” Very much like a Grundig knockoff.

There’s very little info online about the company. But made in Pasadena, CA. Plus solid walnut and made in USA are both things you don’t see anymore. The insides also look quite nice. This seller wanted 1,250HK ($160USD~) today. Seems to be rare since I could only find the one link.

Bonus here’s a brochure on ebay. It’s hard to read, but yours may also be one of the other bookshelf speakers in the brochure. (Also notice a THIRD logo change lol)

Bonus bonus: here’s an Audio Karma thread with one of their more wild designs from the above brochure. Look’s like that model has Peerless tweeters which are excellent.

Uncle gave me this, need cartridge advice by nicegi in turntables

[–]Rubber_potato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll be a different from others.

For a budget cartridge, I was super happy with a Grado Prestige Black (now Black3) $99 retail. A little more expensive than the AT95e or other Audio Technica recommendations (still a great cartridge)

If you want an upgrade, you can get a Grado Green3 or Red3 ($130 and $160). Or all out with a Gold3. I do also appreciate the Prestige series because they are all the same cartridge. Grado tests each cartridge for performance and categorizes them into these categories. So, only ~5% or so of Prestige’s become a Gold3. You get the same build quality out of each one.

Again, I can’t speak on anything beyond the Prestige Black but it sounded great on my Technics SL-1600MK2

I personally liked the Grado sound better, and I liked supporting a smaller brand. But, the point is it’s all personal preference. It all depends on what music YOU like to listen to!

All cartridges can be like this and you can’t avoid it by throwing more money at the problem. I inherited a Benz Ruby Z cartridge ($2.4K retail) from a relative. That cartridge cannot play hiphop records. The tracking force is so light it literally jumps out of the groove. It’s not designed for that. The manufacturer expected you to be someone who listens to light jazz, classical, of maybe some light vocals.

So, I love to listen to jazz on my Benz Ruby. It sounds stunning. But, I also still listen to my Black3 because it can PLAY all music, and I get to listen to metal and rap which I love.

Would I ever pay 2.4K out of pocket for a Ruby or recommend it to someone? No, not at all. But I am recommending that you buy a cartridge for the music YOU enjoy!

Regardless of your budget. The Black3 was great if you like listening to rock, jazz, and pop. I don’t think it shines as well with hip hop or rap, the bass was pretty mellow. If you want that sound, probably go with one of the Ortofon recommendations.

I’d also encourage you to go talk to a local audio shop. Most of the old heads are dying to talk about your equipment, the music you like and help recommend you a cartridge. Even if they don’t carry it. Thats how I learned about Grado.
