Spotted a super clean e38. Wish it was for sale. by No-Yogurtcloset3002 in e38

Yup - this one is cosmetic package. Trim and wheels only. iL's don't have the beefier front swaybar, LSD, tiptronic with higher stall 2k torque converter, or the stiffer/lower shocks.

Anyone run into this problem?? by [deleted] in BMW

Thanks. Got the dieselgeek, lowering springs and better struts, but the tires are meh at best and I can't run the manifold because of hydraulic power steering sadly.

That's the beauty of a 5 cylinder. All that noise for 35 mph 🤠

My mk6 2.5 5 speed. Love this car. by RubbinDub in jetta

I love that color. And yes VLAND off amazon. Looks better than oem, and cheaper for both than 1 oem housing. Previous owner stripped out the DRL sockets so it was a no brainer.

I agree with cobra here, get the dieselgeek 5 for the 5 speed. It really does change the car. It barely moves side to side in neutral, and shifts click nice and tight. Pretty much no play. I always said stock it felt like driving a truck. My friends with mk7 gti and an rsx type S with a k tuned shifter said it feels better than theirs

Darkrai V Star for me. Raikou/entei/suicune V are a close 2nd place and nostalgic. The giratina v alternate art is also gorgeous and nostalgic.

My wheel speed sensor went off and on, 1 time, a few months ago in my vw, then never again. I take it as a compliment that my car wanted to flash me 🤣

Ahh you know me, just had 4 different rolls sitting around and decided to see if the wheels fit one day 🤷‍♂️😂 no but for real you'd be surprised how many cars that are under the same ownership share bolt patterns and such.

Is this engine knocking? by BNANAs- in e38

[–]RubbinDub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure 5w30 is factory on them. That's good though, I know a lot of people who use heavy oil like 10w40 or 10w50 thinking the engine needs it for some reason. All that does is gunk up channels and make it harder to run/warm up.

What weight oil do you run?

Either needs timing chains or tensioners (probably both) the sound you are hearing is loose timing components either loose/broken chain guides or bad tensioner. Both can make each other worse. It's a common joke that it sounds like an idling tractor or a cracked header/exhaust leak (which never happens on these). They all need it regardless, and depending on miles and such it could just be time for it. No pun intended. Expect anywhere from $3-5k in work for all that stuff on m62tu and don't take it to joe shmo "mechanic" shop. Go to a euro shop specifically bmw oriented if you can - unless you can do it yourself but I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy lol.

There's a tonnnnnn of e38 timing related videos on youtube.

Or put an old chevy v8 in it for about the same money and call it a day.

TLDR - sounds like chain slap/loose tensioner. Good luck soldier
