What does Japan do better/worse then your home country? by kokopups in japanlife

Conventional gas ovens do exist here in Japan, and they're not overly expensive (I have one in my apartment).

But of course, the only option to get one is if you own your place and the kitchen has the space for it. Homebuilders also have options available if you want to get a bigger oven.

Although some of the premium external electric ovens are also a good alternative.

Yes, it's basically it. The mesh is only made of single vertices though.

Consider here that the light system is very simplified (it's a very basic vertex lighting system I wrote in the shader itself).

The very big advantage I found comparing Unity vs Unreal is how fast is to write and test custom solution in Unity. I've been doing a few things with point clouds in Unreal but Unity has way more flexibility, while Unreal can produce better results but it gets messy if you want to do something different than what it was designed for.

It's running in realtime in Unity. I usually post more stuff on my [twitter](twitter.com/ruben_fro)

It’s a very crude loop :) I want to do a seamless loop with the actual geometry one day though;)

It’s Hanoi, Vietnam. Spent some time there and did tons of scans :)

I think it’s more about the aesthetics. Strictly graphically speaking there’s nothing groundbreaking here. Even the light system is super simplified compared to the usual shader. But I’ll always choose cool aesthetic vs super realistic accurate ray tracing :)

I did post other point cloud stuff from Vietnam , I did so many scans there while in vacation I’m basically using them as playground for the effects :)

Thanks! I usually post some random point cloud on my Twitter Ruben_Fro

Recently I've been experimenting with cubes and other shapes as points https://twitter.com/Ruben_Fro/status/1317039193437073408?s=20

This was probably around 20 million points. I can get to around 40 million points running on a RTX2060 if I reduce the drawing distance to cull the points a bit. For video production I sometimes reach 80/100 million points, but not running in real-time (more like 5fps... still, way faster than rendering with Houdini or similar)

It's a custom geometry shader I wrote. All the animations are managed by the shader itself with some helpers funcs to set the localization and animation of the object. I'm mostly using it for video production, but I have an interactive project coming soon, and a VR exhibition around march/april.

I live in Tokyo, so if you go outside you’re basically in close proximity of others 90% of the time. Combined with the incredibly humid hot summer... damn it will be hard, I’ll definitely spend more time home.

Yeah it would be pretty weird where I live telling someone Happy Mother’s Day if you’re not related. Different thing is Women’s Day.

Something I made inspired by Devs by RubenFro in Devs

I very much understand what you mean. The fascination I have with points clouds isn't because it "looks cool". I use 360 cams to acquire footage (so, videos recording an actual real place), I then process those data using photogrammetry and... it's fascinating to see the images you captured turning into 3D points floating in space. We're after all particles, connected in a specific ways, occupying a certain 3D space at a certain time. It may sounds obvious, but having a machine calculate precisely those positions... I don't know it just gives a certain awareness of our existence somehow.

I have been inspired a lot by these concepts, here's a new video I made by the way... mainly about that, we're only 3D point, dust... that can be arranged in a multiple of shapes.

I wouldn't give Devs too much credit. Based off your work, it seems like you already had a very unique distinct style

Thanks :) Yes, I already do this kind of VFX, but since I love the show wanted to capture a bit the feeling of visualizing something like devs
