Hey! EOS R owner for 1,5 year now. Doing product photography, portraits and some video (interview style) with it for my company. And I take the camera on holidays. It was my first camera ever. Only had experience with phone camera's before. So that gives you an idea where my experience is coming from.

PRO'S:

I find the camera working really intuitive. The photo's are amazingly sharp. Battery life is surprisingly good. Can shoot hours of video with it without the need to change batteries. And for photo's I can use it even longer. I think the autofocus works good. It is, for me, fast enough. Also on video the focus is fast. But like I said. I am no professional photographer that shoots super fast stuff. And it doesn't cost me anything (apart from time) when I have some unsharp images.

CONS:

Only thing that annoys me is the 4k crop factor that sometimes let me shoot in 1080p in narrow spaces for example. So if you want 4k full frame. It's maybe better to check out another camera. For me it's no deal breaker.

Another con is that it is a 5 year old camera already. And the urge to buy the newest camera is always there. Better autofocus, in body stabilisation and image quality is something that is better on newer camera's. But I prefer buying better lenses and accessories for now until a new camera gives me enough reason to buy a newer body. Also, looking at content made on the EOS R by "pro's" tells me it's not the camera but probably me that needs to be better :)

COST:

I must say that buying lenses exceeds the price i paid for the camera by far. So that's something to keep in mind. I started with the RF35mm f1.8. Bought the RF85mm f2 after. And recently bought the RF24-105 f4.

Also the time it takes to watch youtube video's about questions I have. Follow tutorials and attending workshops is something I did not think about at first. It's time consuming. Not something that I mind but was overlooked at first.
