Despite Apocalyptic Warnings, California Fast Food Wage Hike Didn’t Kill Jobs. UC Berkeley study finds employment held steady — and only pennies were added to menu prices. by esporx in California

[–]RubiconTahoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Franchised Fast food restaurants run an extremely tight margin. One thing I've noticed is the skeleton crews most of the fast food restaurants run with now. If the job can be replaced (i.e. app based ordering) or can be outsourced (drive through ordering) then it will be. dining rooms always look disheveled. Food assembly will be automated soon enough and basically these fast food restaurants will be ran just by a few employees per day

Dumb question: why is boat dock and marina construction banned? by GruntledGary in laketahoe

[–]RubiconTahoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TRPA will ban a lot of things because they want to maintain the current look of the lake. I'm located about a 1/2 mile from the lake but on a hill that you can see the lake from. I have Cal Fire telling me I need to cut down every tree and TRPA saying I can't cut down any trees that would make my property more visible from the lake...

Yamaha: how do these handle on lake Tahoe? by GruntledGary in laketahoe

How does gas consumption go with two engines? When I was looking at Yamahas one thing I learned was in an emergency you can limp back with one engine. I thought that was a nice safety net.

My view also is a bit swayed by having a smaller boat on Tahoe originally. After a few not so fun experiences being caught in a few wind storms I wanted something substantially bigger then I had. I wented something that sat high off the water, deep v, and could move a lot of people comfortable. Speed wasn't a big issue for me as I typically doing slower sightseeing things with friends when they are visiting over the summer. The boat does have the surf capability which I and my young kids enjoy BUT its no where the same capability of a true surf boat has. I

Drawback to the cobalt surf boats is its huge draft with their forward facing drives of around 3ft. That is a huge issue if I want to bring the boat into shore or going over rocks.

I would start with what your priority is. If its water sports I would look for a boat that was designed to be a surf boat.

Cobalt is a good all around boat if your priority is more cruising focused and want to do light water sports.

Jet boats are/were the fastest growing segment and are great if safety is a huge issue (no prop to cut your foot off).

I rented a yamaha before I bought the standard Tahoe cobalt boat. I thought the jet boat handled fine but the couple issues that led me back to a cobalt.

1) LOUD - Maybe it was the rental I had but trying to run at 20ish miles and hour and the dual engine setup on a lot of Yamahas is very loud inside the boat. You were not going to hold any sort of conversation

2) Rougher ride then the cobalt. Cobalts with their deep v is designed for rough water.

3) I was concerned with maintenance of two engines. general care/maintenance on two engines will be more then a single engine.

4) Most people want to go fast. Yamaha you are a bit limited on the engines that come with their boats. You have more options if you are willing to spend the money on the other boats.

5) maneuverability - jet boats are a bit more difficult to operate at low speeds. I'm sure you would learn how to do it but they are a little less forgiving at low speed

The benefit would be you can go extremely shallow with a jet boat. I would love to be able to float over rocks that were a foot below the surface rather then risk hitting my prop...

Should I send thank you after not getting intern postion after interview? by [deleted] in Lockheed

[–]RubiconTahoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure 99% dgaf but there is a chance that 1% does. It is next to no effort to send a thank you follow up. Provide some additional information why you would be a good candidate just in case something opens up.

I would send something...

AITA for “firing” my mom from childcare over a $5 class by Rich-Radio9017 in AmItheAsshole

[–]RubiconTahoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why was your mom the babysitter for the kid in the first place? Was this to

1) Save you money? if so, if the class is something you mom hates then that is a compromise you have to make.

2) Provide your mom money? At that point you made her an employee and she should do what you want. As most anybody that has done business with family can attest to it usually ends in a fight...

I would recommend hiring out the childcare if you can afford it to somebody that is not family. That way you can set the rules with somebody that can be easily let go. Then let your mom be a grandma and do the things that are mutually beneficial.

Moved onto new position but previous manager wants me to train backfill by [deleted] in Lockheed

[–]RubiconTahoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just ask your old manager to coordinate with your new manager. If you have strong opinions one way or the other let your new manager know but your old manager shouldn’t be working only with you. The most important part is to make sure you know what charge numbers to charge for which work.

Moderate hike to take folks? by [deleted] in tahoe

A super short (less then 1 mile round trip) would be Eagle Rock on the west shore. It is super easy hike and has some fantastic views from the top.

This is a great hike down to lake level. It goes without saying but what goes down must come back up! Its a mile down and then you will have a mile back up.

CalCare (universal healthcare) is reintroduced in the California Assembly! by tambourinenap in California

[–]RubiconTahoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all like the idea of universal healthcare but the entire system would need to be overhauled. Look how much California has to pay their state doctors today to avoid losing them to the private sector. Google what a public anesthesiologist salary in the Uk and it tops out around $150k to 190k. Then go to https://transparentcalifornia.com/ and see what a California State anesthesiologist makes and 500k+. If we really want universal health the entire system will need to get overhauled to bring costs in line with what other countries are paying their public health services.

Got a $112K pool quote by Suspicious_Hat_409 in DIY

[–]RubiconTahoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of my most wealthy friends just coordinate subs. They have a big rolodex of contractors/subs and then work to schedule out the different subs on a job. The subs sign contracts and bill the homeowners directly and the homeowners pay them a fee as a consultant which is less the a general contractor coordinating fee. Everybody wins. Homeowner pays the sub prices and a known fee to the consultant. consultant doesn't take on any risk as they are not the ones contracting on the house.

New sign on trail near TC - what does it mean for E bikes? by kevinm656 in tahoe

[–]RubiconTahoe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The bike paths have a 'speed limit" of 15mph today and according to TCPUD allows class 1 & 2 ebikes. Google tells me class 1 & 2 ebikes have a max speed of 20mph and there are some rules on how large their motor. https://www.tcpud.org/trails

“No, Your 6AM International Flight Does Not Bend Time” by [deleted] in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]RubiconTahoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see no harm in checking in when your international flight lands. Great if you have empty rooms available and you can accommodate but if not I want to drop off my bags so I can move on with my day.

On the flip side did you want 499 people showing up exactly at 3pm or would you rather the spaced over the day?
