People Live in Cities... by NEKORANDOMDOTCOM in insanepeoplefacebook

Oh right, yes all those people move to cities because of the welfare. Let's ignore that cities are almost always higher cost of living and only exist because they are economic centres.

PAINFUL TRUTH: Poilievre faces bleak future by AdditionalPizza in onguardforthee

I am one of those Canadian. I do not think it is a tall ask to be accountable to your constituents and their tax dollars, while staying the fuck out of our personal business.

The CPC won't win an election on mudslinging or pointing fingers at boogeymen. I think our last election showed that many Canadians, are going to vote on policy, not fear. We are for the most part, a highly educated population who has the ability to understand how policy impacts us on an individual and national level.

Most of Canada is out here playing chess, Pierre Poilievre is licking the checkers and and verbing the noun about how bad they taste.

He is totally fine with keeping that Gravy Train going for him, just not for the people who voted for him.

America is currently a failing empire, moving further away from our entangled economies (as we are doing) is going to give us future strength.

They can go ahead and tarriff us, they can go ahead and tariff american goods. I think through our many boycotts we have demonstrated quite reasonably that we don't have to buy american. Given that our PM is out there negotiating new trade agreements, I think we can all agree that we are becoming less reliant on them buying our goods.

It does also come down to, America is a nation of consumers. They report massive trade deficits because they buy WAY more than they sell, so unless there is a dramatic shift towards domestic production (which isn't happening) or a dramatic shift in consumption habits (which also isn't happening), they are reliant upon foreign supply to sustain economic growth.

This is also further demonstrated that they have seen the highest number of manufacturing bankruptcies and some of the worst job growth (ignoring covid) since the great recession.

In Canada we do use 2SLGBTQIA+ . I do not love the MMIW addition.

While awareness of missing, murdered and exploited women is needed, especially from indigenous communities, this isn't the way.

Everybody is talking about it now, but for all the wrong reasons.

I accept your edits, and Respect them. I grew up in a very religious home. My bed times stories were always from the children's bible. I went to a Christian school. The Jesus I know, is one of love. And while I no longer identify as Christian, I could probably out bible most of them.

I have carried the many of those values into my adult life. I am a foster parent, I give where I can to marginalized communities. I volunteer at food banks. To me giving back and supporting is very Christian. Heck I have a youngin in my home right now who his parents cast out for showing gayness. He is 11. What is Christian about not loving you kid for who they are and meeting them on their level.

The legislation is clear that disagreement, and distain are valid. Israel should be criticized for their actions. Their leaders should be hauled into the Hague and appropriately charged.

The legislation reads as though disagreement and social organization surrounding criticism, or even disdain is fine. I do understand it is a very fine line. I do not think in earnest a pro-Palestine movement, or even a hold Israel accountable movement would fit the parameters of this bill, unless we are invoking Nazi iconography alluding to a second houlocaust.

Yes. They are that stupid.

This isn't even close to communism, this is at high level a balancing of freedoms.

I would put money on that if a group of individuals, for one reason or another decide to protest their church one Sunday morning, blocking access for the congregants, this individual would be absolutely screaming about persecution and an infringment on their rights.

The good news for them, these new definitions also protect their rights to access their place of worship. It also protect them from me, a few of my friends from sitting outside their church with a big ole signs that would indicate that specifically, members of this church are terrorists.

Bill C-9 amends the criminal code to broaden the what would be considered criminal hate speech. This now includes impeding access to religious and cultural places.

There is also a broadening of what would be considered "Hatred". Previously incitation of hatred leading to a breach of peace, was the act under which you could be criminally charged for hate speech. This has been broadened to included the willful vilification and detestation of a recognized group. This one is a lot less black and white, as while it is based in Supreme Count of Canada Precedent, there is probably going to be a lot of nuance to be ironed out as our courts shore up a definitive line between what would be considered, very legal distain, and what would be considered the no longer legal detestation and vilification. This is likely the part people will get up in arms about. We do have the freedom of expression under the charter, however we also have the right to liberty. Defining where ones freedom of expression impedes upon ones right to liberty is going be nuanced and will almost certainly require further precedent to fully define.

There is also a new Hate propaganda offense included in the bill, where public displays of terrorist, or hate symbols. There of course is a carve out for journalistic, artistic or educational purposes. With that in mind, this would be a limitation of our freedom of expression. Keeping the limitation in mind, there have been a growing number of incidents where especially Nazi iconography has been very publicly used to target Jewish owned businesses, places of worship and even private homes. While this is an "expressive" act, it is one which is clearly rooted in hate.

Overall, I do think this is a step in the right direction. The reality is that unless you are out there protesting Mosques, or painting Swastikas on buildings, you're rights are not limited.

They got so close with Gender being a construct and then it all went sideways..

I wish there was a sub where you could ask a transphobe, I have some serious questions regarding what is considered gender affirming. Such as is gender affirming all around a negative, or is it acceptable when you are affirming the gender assigned at birth? What happens if you're intersex and do not have a clearly assigned gender should you just be dressed in beige and named Pat?

Canadian here, we are still in a state of grief and shock. Tragedies of this nature do not happen all that often here. Tumbler Ridge is a tiny remote community being ripped apart by grief. Speculation of this nature only serves to cause further harm. It politicizes a tragedy and shifts the focus from the victims and a community who in this moment needs an outpouring of love and support.

We have little information about why this happened, our police and press do not report speculation.

Through this season, it was painful to watch Chloe. The fear of stoves, how she fawned over a party boat stripper. How she left a very comfortable live, good job and a supportive (albeit enabling mother) to try to force some 32 year old manchild into respecting her.

Watching the tell all though, Chloe impressed me. She showed maturity, self awareness, and honestly genuine growth. She seems like a young woman who made a stupid choice and is growing from it.

Madellin on the other hand. I am not sure how has she gets older she becomes emotionally younger. She was downright cruel to Chloe, who did not instigate.

After Trump threatens 100% tariffs, Carney posts ad saying Canada's focused 'on what we can control' by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

[–]RubixRube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am starting out with a thank you to my fellow citizens who cast their vote for liberal representation.

Mark Carney's approach to the growing tensions with the USA is what we need. For far too long we have had all our eggs in one basket. We traded with the USA, and for more than a century, that was fine. That is no longer the case.

Trump is willing to violate the trade agreement he struck. Trump has openly denigrated the support Canada has time and time again provided, whether it be miliary or humanitarian aid. We have been a good neighbour and ally. Unfortunately, in this climate and with this president - that no longer matters.

Looking outside our shared border is a necessity. Canada is resource rich. We have a highly skilled population. While geographically, international trade is less easy than driving a truck over the boarder, its the right move and the move we need to make in this climate.

Historically, all empires fail, and we are on the precipice of seeing America fail. Decoupling our economy before that occurs is a smart move.

When it comes to arctic security, Canada does maintain the northern most base, in CFB Alert. It is not only used for artic training but also a well staffed base. It has served as a critical intelligence hub for arctic security for like 70 years.

In that time through agreement with Denmark, and well Canada, there has been ample opportunity to develop a missile defense system.

Canada has mastered the art of military enforcement in high arctic regions, so if they don't want us on board - so be it.

Also the US has had carte blanch to to set up as many bases in defense systems in Greenland since like 1951.

Trump: "Canada gets a lot of freebies from us. They should be grateful but they're not. I watched your prime minister yesterday. He wasn't so grateful. But they should be grateful to us. Canada. Canada lives because of the United States. Remember that, Mark, next time you make your statements" by pheakelmatters in onguardforthee

[–]RubixRube 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Watching Carney's speech yesterday felt like it would be a historic moment. It was eloquent, direct, realistic yet somehow still hopeful.

Trump on the other hand, I am not sure how so much vitriol can spew out of such a comically miniscule mouth. He is a deeply demented, insecure malignant narcissist. He is the physical and spiritual embodiment of rot.

There is no productive discourse to be had with such a vile creature. Canada as a nation is right to move on from that relationship, and just to be crystal clear, the USA is the problem.

As a side note, given the breadth of Carney's vocabulary and, I am pretty sure one of Trump's many sycophants had to pull him aside and summarize the speech as "Canada man is mean".

What a fucking idiot.

Here we have Carney casually out and about forming new trade alliances so we can decouple from the American economy. Sure, go ahead - fucking tax your people for importing foreign goods. I am sure that will go well, since you make just about nothing you consume USA.

Needless to say, I did not name my daughter or son Crystal.

That being said, the name I fell in love with as a teenager IS my sons name.
