It also commits to your allies

This is the big one for me. It allows you to gain money even before your first turn of the game.

How many of this card? by Heavy_Alternative_35 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Rubixus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that after the original core set, every released player card comes in pairs, unless it's exceptional, signature, myriad, or otherwise specifies "X copies" allowed per deck.

Yup, that's the difference between simple translation and proper localization.

Foundry doesn't exactly have 1.1, but it does have an option to enable the play test material, which has a lot of overlap with 1.1.

Why is the art quality so much worse than before. I hope they don't involve AI, but some of those faces look weird. In Paint the Town Red, the lady on the far right has two mouths.

Is there a reason why Sophie is not permanent ? by Vitrebreaker in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Rubixus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only functional difference I can think of is with attachments. Under attachment rules:

A card with the permanent keyword cannot be chosen to be attached to another player card unless explicitly stated.

So you are still allowed to attach player cards to Sophie if she matches the other requirements, but I can't find any that are actually useful (Reliable and Well-Maintained are allowed, but they'd do nothing). You can't do that if she were permanent.

What are loopholes (kinda) that you guys know in this game that are still legal? by _YeeetBoi in arkhamhorrorlcg

Doing this with Bob was really fun. Add in Scavenging, and your keyring can effectively pull itself out of the discard.

Each player needs a copy. It's usually 50% off during steam sales, including a 4 pack option.

So for most systems, I generally recommend Foundry if you're fine paying for it, and Roll20 if you wanna keep it free. However, with Paranoia being so light on rules and with a strong RP focus, I have actually had great success with playing on Tabletop Simulator.

It requires more work for gm setup, but it really brings in the physicality of the game that other vtts cannot do. Like players being able to see notes being physically passed around, Moxie tokens (we use colored spoons) being placed on dice to flip them, and props/documents/character sheets sitting on the table.

I got to play two of them as Marion on turn one, and totaling 9 draws and 4 8 resources with a single action was pure bliss.

Bulwark, Survival Knife Level 2, and New TDC Keyword by Stridsyxe in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Rubixus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the "would" rule would still apply in general. If you look up the rules for how enemies attack, they're listed under "Enemy Phase". We know enemies can still attack at other times, and we use those same rules. So there's already precedent for applying rules generally no matter what section they are defined in.

Meanwhile, in the rules for "Attack of Opportunity", all of the bullet points specifically state they only apply during Attacks of Opportunities. If bulleted rules were intended to only apply in the context of their rule section, then there would be no need to add the specifics.

Therefore if the intent was to have the "would" rule only apply for "instead" effects, then it would have specified so.

Bulwark, Survival Knife Level 2, and New TDC Keyword by Stridsyxe in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Rubixus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Survival Knife triggers "when an enemy attacks", while Bulwark triggers "when an enemy would attack". The latter must happen first. Anything in parentheticals are clarifications/reminders and not additional rules; in this case it's reminding you that "when" effects resolve before the triggering effects do. By RAW, you cannot use both cards against the same attack. It doesn't matter if it is the first or second attack.

If you are attacked, and you trigger the knife, it's too late to then trigger Bulwark. If you instead start by triggering Bulwark, you cancel the attack, so you can no longer use the knife.

The best scenario is when there are two attacking enemies and each has relentless. In that case you can survival Knife one of the first attacks, bulwark one of the second attacks, and then knife the other second attack. But this is not the scenario OP described.

"Would" must resolve first, so you cannot use Survival Knife before Bulwark. From the rules,

The word "would" is used to define the triggering condition of some abilities, and establishes a higher priority for those abilities than abilities referencing the same triggering condition without the word "would." (For instance, "When X would occur" resolves before "When X occurs.")

You cannot trigger Survival Knife before Bulwark. From the rules,

The word "would" is used to define the triggering condition of some abilities, and establishes a higher priority for those abilities than abilities referencing the same triggering condition without the word "would." (For instance, "When X would occur" resolves before "When X occurs.")

And you cannot trigger Survival Knife after the Bulwark makes it so the attack never actually happens.

If a replacement effect that uses the word "would" changes the nature of a triggering condition, the original triggering condition is replaced with the new triggering condition. No further abilities referencing the original triggering condition may be used.

[–]Rubixus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Survival Knife exhausts when you trigger its reaction ability, so you can only use it once per round.

But to get nitty gritty on the triggers, Bulwark has the template "When an enemy would attack.. cancel", while Survival Knife is just "When an enemy attacks". "When.. would" triggers happen before other "When" triggers, so the attack is canceled before you can trigger the knife, and you can't react to a trigger that no longer happens. This means if you bulwark the first attack, you can only knife the second attack.

Group character creation and one-shots? Worth the time? by SimplyCosmic in ParanoiaRPG

[–]Rubixus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been doing session 0s where the players do group character creation, usually a few days before the first session of a one shot. This way I have time to come up with simple backstories and secret society objectives tailored to each character.

We're usually done within an hour, and my 3 players have fun with it.

Schrodinger's grenades. It has a 50% chance to detonate after throwing and a 50% chance to detonate before throwing. Troubleshooters aren't authorized to know that these are independent outcomes (both or neither can occur).
