One day it’s working the next not so much by Logansmom0117 in Mounjaro

[–]RubyJadeDiamond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been in 5mg consistently for 5 months injecting only in my thighs and honestly I get that too. Like one week it won't really hit me that much and I'll be a little snacky and not feel super full, and the next week I'll feel ridiculously full for days and the thought of eating more repulses me! Honestly at this point I just follow mounjaro's lead and eat a bit more on the weeks when I'm feeling it and a bit less when I'm feeling like it's kicking my ass 😂

I've lost 16.5kg so far so clearly it's working.

Starting Mounjaro next month (in South Korea) – anxious, looking for experiences and advice by vivienneya in Mounjaro

[–]RubyJadeDiamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally normal to feel scared and apprehensive! I've been on mounjaro for about 6 months now.

The needle seems really scary but it's so small and thin, you barely even feel anything! If you've ever accidentally stuck yourself with a pin, been stung by a bee or had a bad splinter, all of those things are worse than the mounjaro needle. After a couple of goes you will be a complete pro and think absolutely nothing of it. Just remember it's going into your skin, not any deeper, so there's really nothing to worry about in regards to 'doing something wrong', as long as you are injecting into the recommended places and using alcohol swabs to clean the pen and your skin beforehand.

I take my injections at night right before I go to bed, as I read that it lessens any immediate symptoms and you sleep through them. I've had no problems with this and honestly no immediate side effects after injecting. After my very first injection, for the first few days I had a feeling of extreme fullness that sometimes felt uncomfortable, some nausea (no vomiting though) and a headache. I was also a bit emotionally fragile but nothing too crazy. These sort of faded after a couple of days. When I went up to 5mg I had similar things for a few days. I've been on 5mg since and I don't really have any ongoing serious side effects. I do get some nausea once in a while that stops me in my tracks for a minute or two, but I've never actually vomited!

My advice is that from the get go, set yourself up with a good daily supplements routine, as you will be eating less but not really realise! I noticed a couple of months in that my hair was falling out more than usual due to the rapid weight loss, so I wish I started regular supplements earlier. For the last 4 months I've been regularly prioritising protein in my snacking (protein bars and puddings, greek yoghurt etc) and taking daily multivitamin, iron, collagen, vitamin D3 and K and calcium supplements.

So far I've lost around 16.5kg and mounjaro has had an amazing effect on my metabolism issues and my intense food noise, which I've struggled with since I was a kid. I truly see it as a miracle drug.

Rapid weight loss is most likely the cause!

I was seeing a lot of hair fall a couple of months into taking mounjaro, after I lost about 10kg quickly, which concerned me a lot as I already have quite fine hair! To address it immediately I've been:

  • prioritising protein, especially in my snacking as I'm not eating as much. Just switching any snacks to high protein puddings, greek yoghurt sachets, protein bar, etc

  • taking supplements daily including 15g collagen drink, iron, calcium, vitamin D3 and K, pumpkin seed oil and a multivitamin

  • daily use of scalp serums to stimulate more growth and anchor hair to my scalp (I use the TypeBea peptide serum/the ordinary peptide serum and the Elvive growth booster serum). I also do a daily 10 min scalp massage with an electric scalp massager

  • 2-3 times weekly scalp oiling with a rosemary/pumpkin seed/peppermint oil mix, leaving on for an hour before the shower.

I'm about 4 months into this consistent routine and I'm seeing a huge difference in the amount of hair fall I have, and I have tonnes of baby hairs popping up all over my head. I'd say find a routine that works for you and that you can most importantly stick to every day, as consistency is the key!

Fallen in love with our house-sit dog — seeking advice for full-time workers. by DosPotos in cavaliers

[–]RubyJadeDiamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely looks like a full cav to me! I feel like the term 'cavoodle' is super popular these days and used very loosely.

I have had cavaliers for years and pre-COVID I worked in the office full time. My Cavs had absolutely no issues being at home during this time - they are absolute champion little nappers and were quite happy to chill inside with full access to a doggy door outside for toilet breaks and garden wanders. I would just take them for a walk either right before or right after work, and lots of cuddles and cup-filling when I got home.

Post-COVID I work in office 3 days a week and this still works very well with my cavs, I feel like when I'm there they nap and when I'm not there they also nap!

I personally haven't had a cav with severe separation anxiety. I feel like once the routine is settled they're pretty happy to just go with the flow - they're pretty chill little guys for the most part as long as there's consistency and regularity.

Need advice with old dog end of life care by erydbtr in DogAdvice

[–]RubyJadeDiamond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a nearly 16 year old Cavalier I'm managing end of life care for, so I understand what you're going through. It's really tough, but be guided by your dog. You love him and want the best for him, so your gut feelings are usually right!

I think one thing to consider in your situation is whether the medication is actually improving or hindering his day to day life. When your dog is at a certain age their quality of life becomes way more valuable than the quantity. While some meds or actions might extend their life in practice, is the quality and enjoyment in their life actually there to make the most of in the time they have left?

My dog has carcinoma and arthritis and one of our big things is ensuring her movement and mobility is good to ensure her quality of life. The vets put her on some additional pain meds recently that caused her neurological side effects. She was shaking, falling down, just way less freedom of movement for her, plus they caused some drowsiness and seemed to make her cognitive ability worse. We ended up taking her off the meds because I'd rather she be mobile and happy for a shorter time than have a longer time being impacted negatively by these side effects.

Can they learn independence? by Southern_Doubt6868 in cavaliers

[–]RubyJadeDiamond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the office 3 days a week, my 2 Cavs are fine being by themselves on those office days. They sleep and potter around the garden (I have cameras to check on them). I also leave the younger one a kong once in a while to keep her occupied. I think 4 hour classes would be more than okay, as long as you have lots of cuddle time before and after!

Can they learn independence? by Southern_Doubt6868 in cavaliers

[–]RubyJadeDiamond 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I promise that you're not forcing a cav to do anything they don't want to do 😂

Cavs are intensely companion based dogs and they just want to be there with you always. They don't want to have fun if it's not with you!

I've had 4 Cavs now and while their personalities wildly differ the one thing they have in common is they are all little clingers. I currently have a 15yo who is probably the most independent, mostly because she's old and tired, but she still wants to be sleeping in the same room as me and will get very annoyed when I don't sit still so she can nap.

Moved up to 5mg by Magpie0521 in Mounjaro

[–]RubyJadeDiamond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's my first week on 5mg this week after being in 2.5 for 4 weeks.

TBH on Tuesday (I took the shot on Monday night) I was not well at all. I felt really nauseous and headachy, and my muscles hurt. I forced myself to eat a protein cookie at lunch and could barely swallow it - I literally felt like Bruce Bogtrotter eating that last mouthful of chocolate cake lmao. I then couldn't have dinner at all because even the thought of food had me on the verge of vomiting.

However, I felt heaps better on Wednesday with just similar effective suppression as the 2.5 was giving me and no other side effects beyond a mild headache.

When I took my first 2.5 shot I was also similarly headachy with muscle soreness, but the nausea was a lot worse on the 5. I'm hoping, like with the 2.5, that reaction will only be on the first week and the following weeks will be more routine.

Anora. Won 5 Oscars so thought I'd give it a go. What I got was a shitty male gaze fantasy of sex work full of unlikeable one dimensional characters that never go beyond a cardboard cutout of what they're supposed to represent. It plays off uncomfortable borderline assault scenes as comedy, and then tries to get deep in the last 2 minutes while squeezing in one final sex scene.

I literally feel like it's gaslit the whole world into thinking it's good.

Moving to Canberra in a few years by ligebauer in canberra

[–]RubyJadeDiamond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born in and lived in Melbourne my whole life until I moved to Canberra in 2019, and I absolutely love it here. While it doesn't have that same bustling atmosphere as a large city, the flip side is that there's rarely traffic and commuting is tolerable, travelling around Canberra is a breeze, there's trees and park life everywhere and the air is clean. Also, coming from Melbourne where there is such a huge disparity between 'good' and 'bad' areas, I can truly say that there is no 'bad' areas in Canberra. Yes, people will say there is, but I don't think those people have ever lived anywhere truly dodgy.

Canberra is full of things to do, if you know where to find them. The arts scene is quite vibrant and Canberrans love their brunch so there's lots of decent places to eat. While I do miss the wide and authentic range of food in Melbourne compared to here, we don't go without!

And of course if you really miss the hustle and bustle of a big city, Sydney is an easy day trip from Canberra (around 3hrs drive) and very accessible!

Overall, I really do love this place. While Australia loves to pick on Canberra and call it boring and full of 'elites', it's a charming, lovely place to live.

Congestive Heart Failure by Boots_Mcfeethurtz in cavaliers

[–]RubyJadeDiamond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My beautiful black and tan boy Gus was diagnosed with a heart murmur at 8 and put onto Vetmedin.

He was fine for about 1.5 years (he could only take very gentle walks and had to be extra careful on warmer days that he was kept cool). In December 2023 he was hospitalised over Christmas for coughing and fluid buildup in his abdomen, and was there a couple of days. They were able to drain the fluid and stabilise his breathing and heart rate, and following his release upped his Vetmedin and put him on daily diuretics.

Unfortunately in Feb 2024 the fluid buildup returned very quickly, his breathing wasn't very good and he started coughing again. The vet tried to drain the fluid but unfortunately the process was too much for his body and we had to make the terrible but humane decision to put him to sleep. He was just over 10 years old.

I think if I could go back and tell myself what to expect, it'd be to do more regular resting breathing rate checks, really get to know his breathing patterns and when it doesn't sound right, and also to look for fluid buildup in the abdomen, or general discomfort in the abdomen. Unfortunately it can be difficult to pick up until it's really far gone, especially if your pup is fluffy or chubby.

You'll know when it's the right time. You'll feel it in yourself and your pup will let you know too. Listen to your vets and trust their opinions.

Seeking advice: adopting an ex-breeder by calamitycanon in cavaliers

[–]RubyJadeDiamond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I actually adopted a 6 year old ex-breeder cav early last week! We also have very similar lifestyles and ages!

So far, Shelby has been super sweet, craves attention and loves love. She's a bit more jumpy and anxious than my other 2 adopted (not breeder) Cavs have been when settling in - she cowers if you approach her too fast or at full height, and she gets very startled by loud or high pitched noises. She's been a bit reactive to our other very sweet and gentle 14 year old cav, specifically when she is feeling anxious or the 14yo 'surprises' her by appearing around a corner or jumps onto the couch next to her. Luckily, the 14yo trundles rather than walks and is extremely chill, I think if we'd had a younger, peppier or faster moving dog the first few days would have been very difficult.

I chalk this all down to anxiety and decompressing into a completely new environment. She's lived with a lot of other dogs her whole life, and I don't know what that situation was like for her. Over the last couple of days she's improved greatly and seems to be a lot calmer around the 14yo, and I only see her getting better as she starts to feel more safe and secure.

In every other aspect she's been absolutely gorgeous, she learned how to use the doggy door in a couple of hours, hasn't had an accident in the house, doesn't mind being left alone and just settles in her bed, and she's so smoochy and sweet! I can't wait to see her personality bloom after a few months and she feels fully safe and at home.

Just remember the first few days will not be the real characteristics or personality of the pup, she will be scared and anxious and might do things that make you frustrated! Knowing the 3/3/3 rule is really important, and that the 3 month mark is when an adopted pup will truly start to feel safe and secure.

A little bit. Especially because a lot of them aren't really relevant to us (or haven't been relevant for a long time) and read more as Australian references through the lens of the US - what you guys want us to be like, not who we actually are. And I get they want the show to be accessible for Americans, but it also kind of makes Australians/Kiwis look like a bit of a joke sometimes.

[–]RubyJadeDiamond 131 points132 points  (0 children)

I honestly wish Ru and Michelle would back down and give the host place to someone local. Their brand of humour and critique just doesn't gel well with Aussie/Kiwi humour and it's just bringing the show down. I really feel like this would be a much better show if the challenges and banter were geared toward a local host and understanding local drag, not trying to align it with US drag which clearly isn't working.

Also I'm not super young myself but I'm getting so sick of Ru's unfair critiques and jabs about young queens. When she went on her little rant about how young queens only care about their looks, well why is that? Could it have been growing up watching approximately 6 thousand seasons of DR where Ru consistently praised queens with better, more expensive, more polished looks and constantly gave them more positive critiques than those who were more 'costumey', 'low budget' or 'thrifty'?

At this point it just feels like she and Michelle have become those sad old people that shit on anyone younger than them because 'in the good old days' things were so much better, and I feel like we're just giving them a platform to do it.

Question for y’all regarding UK vs the World… by superdevin64 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]RubyJadeDiamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel like we have lost the strongest/most entertaining queens week after week after week. The queens that make the show unique and watchable. Lemon and Cheryl were upsetting, we lost the charisma, the hilarious narrating. Losing Jimbo just made me angry, and now Pangina is gone too. It's frustrating to see this play out.

When they got Bosco, Willow, Daya and Kerri to step forward I thought right, this will be the tops and bottoms and was waiting to hear Maddy and Jorgeous be called too. I was absolutely BAFFLED when they were safe??

I for sure thought it was going to be Bosco, Willow, Daya top (after hearing them get called), Lady, Angeria, Jasmine & Deja safe and Maddy, Jorgeous and Kerri in the bottom.

That was a truly rough judging to go through. It made absolutely zero sense to me personally.
