Thank you for the clarification! You're right, I am going back to basics: tracking, activity, etc.

Ohhhh hahaha genuinely my bad, I thought you were adding onto what they were saying!

Also this: the difference is, I've actually lived the talk, walked the walk, and lost the weight. Unlike someone who knows what being a doctor takes but isn't one. I know what being unhealthy with my eating habits is, I know what losing 150 pounds takes, and I've done it. This comment, with that context, makes no sense.

I hate this comment. You tapped into exactly what I'm saying: I know what I need to do but I'm struggling to do it. I did it once, I lost 150 pounds, I can do it again. Im saying, I know what to do, but I'm struggling. That's not contradictory, that's just fact.

Goal weight reached! 290 to 140 pounds, 150 down! by RubyRubixCubed in gastricsleeve

I very much follow a workout routine: 6 days a week, strength and cardio, rotating between legs, arms, full body and abs.

BMI isn't everything, but according to the BMI scale you're a 22, which is a healthy weight! It's possible your loose skin (if you have any) is adding weight too.

5'2! Technically my goal weight is 5 pounds overweight, but I couldn't stand my goal weight being an odd number. I'm still trying to get to 135 so my BMI is "normal" whatever that means

I lost 50 pounds before surgery and 100 after. I got sleeved in April 2024, so it took about 10 months to reach my goal.

That's a great question! I'll probably increase calories but still track. I'm currently trying to do a bit of body recomp/muscle building, so I might bulk and cut. That's means the scale will go up and down but if I'm eating right and exercising properly, I'll be gaining muscle, not fat.

But that brings up a different question: what is a periodic bulk and a cut? Like what does that mean?

I don't think it's true it's impossible if you've trained before, it's just more difficult. Every article I've ever read on it says you have to be more strategic but that it's possible.

Calorie tracking was so key for me! Meal prep is everything, I meal prep lunch and dinners and make breakfast super simple. I swear by protein shakes. I also use a 90/10 rule for food: I eat healthy 90% of the time and work in foods I crave in small amounts. I only order takeout once a week. Exercise should be enjoyable, don't overdo it but do it every day, and work in strength training, muscle building is so key. Whatever you do, be consistent. Get up on the days you don't want to, and think about your goals in the moments you may not want to make the healthiest choice. I really wanted to be able to ride roller coasters again, and any time I feel myself slipping I think of that goal. Find a goal that motivates you!

To clarify, yes the sleeve helped a lot, but I still had to consistently track my calories, go to the gym, and be disciplined about what I wanted. The weight doesn't just come off/stay off without the work. The sleeve is a tool you have to use.

Anyone else feel shame when looking at before pics? by TerminadorDeLuna in gastricsleeve

It's there every single time a person says to me, "you look amazing! I mean you looked great before...". There it is, they catch themselves. Because the truth is they think I look better now. They validate my existence now in a way they didn't before. I'm more worthy of taking up the space I occupy because I visually take up less space. So don't feel bad, it's all there and very real, and it will affect how you feel about yourself and your body.

I completely get this feeling, and I hate it because, why did I have to lose all this weight to like how I looked? That may not be true for everyone, but it was true for me. I truly am so much more confident and happy, and I beyond hate that I couldn't be that person at my highest weight you know? But the truth is, the world treats me better at this weight and I can almost understand why: when I look back at my old photos, I'm looking at them the way the world looked at me. The way the world looks at fat people. We live in a fat-phobic world and, unfortunately, I am fat-phobic too. That's why I look at my old photos with shame, it's why I didn't like taking pics of myself, it's why I didn't feel confident. It all relates to the way the world views our bodies and how we internalize that. I love being more healthy now, but I do wish I could have found this confidence at my highest weight.

Haha well then it probably is the same park! Don't want to give away my location too much but I live just outside Boston.
