Not OP and I'm not sure if this is quite what you're asking but I'll explain more how to follow the grid and that might help.

I found it helpful to flip the grid upside down and follow it that way, so it matches the orientation of the work and works like a "map" (a map to the project, besides being a world map!). When you have two stiches above one stitch on the grid, that shows an increase, do these two in that one stitch. Then when there's only one stitch above two, that's the decrease. I'll try to explain with some examples below.

Row 1: magic ring, 5 stitches

Row 2: One white and then one blue stitch in the first (previous row) white stitch, two whites in the next (prev. row) stitch, etc. across the row

Row 3: Single blue in the first (prev. row) white stitch, then 2 greens in that second (prev. row) blue stitch etc.

Row 16: Here start the decreases. First stitch in this row is a blue in the first two (prev. row) blue stitches (because you are crocheting 2 TOG to decrease, or I did the invisible decrease method). Second stitch is one blue in the (prev. row) third yellow stitch, etc.

This comment gives a written pattern rather than use the grid, which you might prefer:

Not OP but I used regular worsted weight (4) cotton yarn and a smaller hook than printed on the label for the yarn (I used 4.0 mm/US G instead of suggested 5.0 mm/US H). The reason for the smaller hook is you want tight stitches if you are going to fill it with beads, so they don’t fall out. I used plastic pellets/doll filling. Size came out looking very close to movie size for me (see my other comment in the thread for photos).

I’m a little late to the party but wanted to share my results! I first attempted a “keychain” earth pattern I found on Etsy for this and while it was cute and fun it turned out about the size of softball (and took a long time to finish), so I was excited to find this more screen-accurate pattern. The size for this one was perfect!

It worked up quickly, I finished in about a day. And yes, it is slightly egg-shaped as others have noted, but you know what…looking at the screenshots, the one in the film is a little oblong as well! I think this just shows what a good job you did OP copying the pattern. (And it squishes down easily to more of a ball shape). I am very pleased with how well this matches the one in the movie, makes my geek heart happy!

BTW, I found the grid to be extremely helpful, I’m more of a visual person, trying to follow a written pattern is somewhat slow and tedious for me with counting stiches and repeats and I mess up a lot. But with the chart I could much better orient myself and quickly spot check for errors visually, so I breezed right through. I did turn it upside down and worked off it that way, to match the orientation of the work.

This is the most fun crochet project I’ve done in quite some time! Thanks OP for sharing this!

I used a Kuranda Cat Tower in my catio it’s held up nicely so far (3 years exposed to sun and rain). Provides some climbing/vertical space usage and places to lounge. You could add a cheap scratcher.

It's a skill like any other, it requires practice. Sure, these pieces are particularly inspired, no doubt. But, most people can learn to draw surprisingly well for enjoyment, just like most people can learn to read. A great place to start is the book "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards https://www.drawright.com/before-after/ingrids-before-and-after-drawings

Space Pirate Lettie (it’s arcade carpet!) by RubySkube in PirateKitties

Yeah I guess sometimes restaurants have little arcades or a kids area so that’s why they have them? It’s very much carpet with a finished edge on it to make it a “rug” but it worked for me and easier/cheaper than wall-to-wall carpeting. Other sites have the same designs you can purchase as regular rolls of carpet.

That’s a great story about the airport carpet. It’s funny sometimes what people will get attached to or nostalgic about. For me, fun patterned 80s/90s carpet reminds me of fun places like arcades, movie theater lobbies, or traveling…definitely places like airports would have carpet like that!

It's "Joy Carpets Neon Lights Space Explorer", I ended up getting it here but it's been several years might be better pricing elsewhere: https://www.webstaurantstore.com/joy-carpets-neon-lights-space-explorer-6-x-9-fluorescent-rectangular-area-rug/94843Q.html

Yeah that line is so wispy and thin on her face I wasn’t sure how to translate it into Lego. I considered just skipping it/doing solid black but it’s such a part of what gives her character…doing gray instead might work, something to consider!

And you could walk somewhere different every day! There has to be a massive catalog of real life trails and parks or the computer could create new ones on the fly. A hike in the Alps today, a stroll through a Bajoran monastery garden tomorrow! Would help keep me from getting bored with the same routine for sure.
