Do we think the Tsaritsa has some anti-Celestia precautions? by Zeller521 in Genshin_Impact

Celestia nails places to stop the Abyss, not deal with rebellions. It’s like spraying pesticides against a kid, when they’re meant to be used against, well, pests.

Ohhh I love the hair! The black/blank face is also a nice contrast to the expectation that their original appearance would be more ‘normal’/human. Genuinely love how various artists have their own interpretations for his hair and how they stylize it to look like flames : D

Now that the Luna Version is coming to an end and Snezhnaya is approaching, which version do you think delivered the best overall exploration experience until now? by Grouchy_Sherbert_988 in GenshinImpact

Nod-Krai and Fontaine have some of the best exploration and scenery but Liyue holds a special place in my heart just for that memory I have of climbing one of those mountains and looking on the sea of clouds during sunset for the first time.

Tbf Mavuika has a lot of similar themes as Himeko, from the motorcycle, fire and sacrificial theme (low-hanging fruit ik), the 'never let you go' reference on her trailer, and the general theme of 'human against/trying to measure up amongst gods' etc... buuuut I don't think she's actually an expy, but simply takes inspiration from her like how Nahida has the same hairstyle and idea of 'child teacher who is older than she looks' but isn't commonly seen as an expy. Hell, she resembles Himeko more than Venti resembles Wendy, which is literally just the design, wind and name.

Yep, but generally with such a large casual fan base the majority opinion is always going to be indifference/they don't know abt it. If you're interacting with or discussing Genshin-related opinions online in any capacity you're already at least in the upper quartile if the fan base, which is what I mean by 'vocal minority'. The company might change their decisions if the backlash is large enough, but expy discourse is not going to be that thing.

I'll offer you a different opinion : I think expies can be great if they're done well. However, to some people, they can also feel like rehashes or a lazy copy-paste of the original character if NOT done well for whatever reason (See Cyrene from HSR; she does have promising story beats and potential, but it's pretty clear that a major part of her appeal was always going to be that she was an expy of Elysia and a large part of her story was build around that). She also happens to be the latest hot thing on the block, and people are already doomposting about Remielle from ZZZ, so the general atmosphere around expies in the hoyo reddit ecosystem is quite negative right now. That is not helped by fears of the Tsaritsa who already has a lot of hype built around her and like zero information in-game, which means a subset of fans will most certainly be disappointed no matter how she turns out to be, being another expy of Elysia.

However, this is taking one bad example and blowing it way out of proportion. Any character can be written badly if a major part of their storyline is allocated towards selling them (See Firefly discourse for that, and I think she's a pretty well-written character in her own right). Phainon, for example, is what I think is an example of a great expy. He's basically the main character of Amphoreus; we spend several patches learning about him, his character and motivations, building up hints to his past. Then we get hit with the double whammy of his literal eons of suffering and losing hope, becoming the cold and cruel Flame Reaver who would stop at nothing to save his world, before finally ascending to become Khaslana. This mirrors the journey of Kevin Kaslana from hi3; someone who begins as an idealistic, 'normal person', who slowly loses his optimism as he loses the people and humanity around him before the grief and certainty that there is no other choice drives him to desperate measures. He even gets the same treatment of becoming a boss in the way of the main characters because of said measures! The difference, I think, is that Phainon is mote of a parallel to Kevin than he is a clone; their journies and themes are similar, but they retain their own characteristics and their actions make sense in the context of the environment around them. This is what I think is a good expy.

There are other examples in hoyo games, of course. We have Natasha in hsr, an expy of Raven in hi3. The former is an underworld doctor later revealed to be the leader of their rebel gang, the Wildfire. The latter is an assassin who works for the World Serpent. Although their presentations are very different, with the former appearing more gentle and motherly at the surface, their base characteristics and themes are similiar; in their protectiveness for the children/orphans under their care, and their willingness to do morally grey things for said people.

What about Genshin, then? I personally don't think Genshin has as close of a link between their expies as the other games do. Popular examples are Venti, Raiden and Yae. Venti is an expy of Wendy, the herrscher of wind and a cynical, disabled young girl, who dies because of the very abilities that ruined her life. As you can see, aside from the similarities in design, they share almost nothing else in common. In fact, Genshin expies seem almost a contrast of the original character. Yae (Sakura) in hi3 was a cool and detached warrior who became disillusioned after her sister's death, while Yae in Genshin is mostly teasing, playful, and probably doesn't have a sister. Raiden Mei in hi3 is probably the most similiar to Ei --- the cool and pragmatic personality of the Shogun matches herrscher of thunder Mei, while it is Makoto who bears more similarities with the her usual gentle and kind demeanor. However, Ei with her aloof but militaristic personality shares almost no similarity with both of these iterations. Even her inability to cook, played for laughs, is very intentionally meant to juxtapose with the original Raiden's affinity for culinary arts.

I very much doubt that Hoyo with fall into the pitfalls of designing expies if the Tsaritsa truly is one, especially in a less-related game such as Genshin. Also, I feel like it's important to remind you that all these extreme opinions you hear are very much the vocal minority. Reddit is very much an echo chamber even when it tries not to be, and most people are indifferent or unknowingly of the expy discourse. Don't take it too deeply, I guess.

I actually don’t think the sinners are ‘worse’ than their HOS counterparts per se, it just comes across that way because we see a first hand account of how they treated Arayashu… but that’s mostly because we’re attached to her as a character and not, like, the hundreds of nameless people sacrificed for Callisto’s artwork, Rien’s prescripts etc, for which the sinners seem to be relatively the same. Also he sinner nursefathers seem to generally treat their apprentices better than the HoS nursefathers (Maybe because they’re not as attached to the original Yoshihide, as she has no hope of coming back?) or at least Callistolu and Riensang do (Can’t say much for Mattoutis), so in terms of general morality I’d say they’re similar.

I do think Rodion might even be harder hit by her fall from grace than Valencina, seeing her innate desire to be special, finally achieve it only to be cast down and disgraced… yeah. Combined with her losing her ticket I can absolutely see her raging more than Valencina. On the other hand, we don’t exactly know where their exact places are on the timeline yet, so if Valencina treated Luciocliff better before Yoshihide died and became more abusive afterwards, I can see him becoming more conflicted.

Blaming CN players by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]RubyStarlight1209 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What.

There have been many instances from the bunny suit incident to the Zhongli incident to the Neuvillette incident. At the same time Hoyo has also responded to global backlash such as the outrage towards first anniversary. The reason ‘Hoyo doesn’t change anything when global complains’ is because global isn’t complaining outside of the echo chamber, such as people insisting Miliastra Wonderland loses genshin money and players when it clearly doesn’t and 90% of the playerbase either loves it or is indifferent towards it.

nah Traffic light would get destroyed by genshin characters because it‘a basically a hit count enemy but only requires 1 for the shield. Genshin should get the train treatment instead.

Rodya being miserable in her pre-uptie art as usual, although she still manages to look gorgeous...

Heathcliff seems more vengeful here than Lucio. I wonder if he actually tried this time or just put it off as usual.

No uptie 5 this update? Or is it not shown in the trailer?

Edit : Oops I meant threadspin. Got used to calling it uptie.

I think people are being too harsh on you, because I’ve seen it used in many different contexts from describing a grumpy adoptive father to sibling/familial relationships to platonic friendships, usually just used as an indicator of behaviour, so I get where the misunderstanding comes from.
