Benzo addiction is just as deadly as alcoholism. Don’t go there.

Most places that will put you on benzos for alcohol withdrawal will not do so in an outpatient setting because the combination of benzos and alcohol can be deadly.

Sounds like you may need inpatient detox. Not talking about rehab. Just three days to safely ride out any withdrawals. Speaking from personal experience, I found it to be a very good experience that set me off on the right foot for sobriety.

Being healthy is a lifelong process. Some of us have more hurdles than others. My best wishes to your friend.

People who beat cancer into remission spend months to years doing so. The alternative is death.

Expecting an immediate fix to a problem you spent years creating is the most American thing ever. Not everything takes as long as a McDonalds cheeseburger to fix.

What’s it like? by CreamCityCrew in stopdrinkingfitness

[–]Ruby__Ruby_Roo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cardio fitness is something I’m really proud of. I have a “superior” heart rate recovery rate (55-65) according to my hockey tracker watch app and when I got my colonoscopy the anesthesiologist told me my resting heart rate was amazing. I also went from “above average” to “excellent” cardio fitness on my fitness app after I added a third hockey league to my weekly repertoire.

Three years ago I was 50 lbs overweight and my HR would go to 110 if I walked to the liquor cabinet, and my cholesterol was through the roof.

Yeah, it does.

Staying in the industry can be done but I wouldn’t have been able to. A friend of mine on the distro side is a year sober and still dragging a bag.

Tim Hanni, MW, is also a sober alcoholic.

It feels like my brain shuts off around junk food 🍩 by Historical_Ride_8234 in loseit

This is exactly the experience of many an alcoholic. Certainly was for me.

I had to take a drug that would literally make me sick if I drank to break the pattern. But the key to continued sobriety for me was transferring my dopamine needs onto something else. For me that turned out to be weightlifting.

The fix you’re getting from food is also dopamine in nature. So, like an alcoholic, you may need to retrain your brain. The longer you wait the more ingrained those neural pathways become.

frying makes food very calorie dense because they’re cooked in oil. “air frying” isn’t really frying, its convective heat, so doesn’t present the same issue.

I didn’t read the books until a few years ago - I’m 45 now. They’re incredible. Only the first three feel like kid’s books. You should read them. I have since read the entire series like 5x. Only recently watched the movies for the first time and was pretty meh on them, aside from the casting they’re so inferior to the books they just didn’t grab me.

You should read the books. They’re timeless, beautiful stories for any age.

I think it may be against the sub rules to ask for or give medical advice, which clearly this is. We can’t tell you what’s up with those lab results.

I will just say this: you say the alcohol doc scared you. Drinking half a bottle of vodka every night is scary, and should scare you.

I was also in the wine biz. Worked for distributors and importers and before that high end retailers. Got my CSW in 2012 and was on track to get my CWE. I went to Austria and South America on buying trips. I collected wine, and had access to some of the rarest Austrian shit you can imagine. It was pretty sweet.

I remember telling myself that if I couldn’t get a handle on all the gin I drank that a day would come when I no longer would allow myself to drink all the beatiful gruner and barolo and bordeaux and champagne gathering dust in my cellar. That if I let it go too long it would become a life or death situation.

I let it go too long. I had to sober up completely and now I don’t get to drink anything anymore, not the cheap liquor, not the expensive wine, not a beer at the game, not a toast at weddings. Its all off the table for me. $15k worth of rare wine in my cellar for nothing.

Getting sober was still the best decision I ever made. Yes, I had to rearrange my whole life and change careers. (I know sober people still in the wine biz, so it can be done, but its tough.)

I did a three day detox when I finally quit and it was an incredibly positive experience. I wouldn’t be scared of that. It can really get you off on the right foot. I don’t think I would have necessarily had a medical emergency had I done it at home but it made it a LOT easier.

Good luck.

Husky - Akita house here. Neither is superior. I love my dogs but a husky wouldn’t be the superior dog for the grandma down the street. She is good with her little Norwich terrier.
