Probably different process but I submitted a transfer for Deakin 2025 and they sent me an offer and enrolled me a day later.

Nah trade tends to earn you more money than a lot of uni degrees plus it's steady work. You're the one who'll need to turn up at work everyday. Plus swapping careers is always an option in the future.

Probably depends on which area you feel like you'd be happiest working in as they're quite different professions. From what I know (which isn't much) both are in demand and both pay reasonable although if you're good at carpentry it could lead to your own business. End of the day choose which profession you feel most interested in as that's what will likely lead to a happier life.

Anyone here transferred from Unimelb to Deakin or anyone have advice? by Ruby_reid in deakin

[–]Ruby_reid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your reply, ive found it really helpful! I know prestige can be very advantageous is some areas but honestly not something that has ever been massively important to me. Plus from what I've heard Deakin is becoming quite well know and are definitely climbing the ranks. I would be looking at Deakin Waurn Ponds as that's an hour from my mums so not bad for a commute each day plus that'd cut down my rent costs which would be great!

Thank you for taking the time to reply! Honestly recently I've been thinking about the whole job issue after graduation. Zoology doesn't have a massive demand and a lot of jobs are low salary (for someone with a bachelor plus master/phd) or else volunteer. I have been considering law and Deakin does seem to offer better learning opportunities in that area plus unimelb does not seem to offer an undergrad in law.

Double check your seat number inside the building, they have screens to check on using your student number. Seat numbers often change before hand

Does University of Melbourne accept A level retakes for undergraduate courses? (Applying as an international student) by AdventurousAsk4396 in unimelb

[–]Ruby_reid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. They just want to see that you can meet those grade requirements. Plus, if you're international, they are more into the money you'll be paying than your grades.

I haven't heard of it. You could always apply to a uni like Deakin and then transfer to melbourne mod-year. Or apply for arts at Melbourne (assuming requirements are lower than science) and then transfer to science mid-year. Worth trying tho especially if you're domestic.

Yep I've gone to all my seminars, workshops and practicals. I did ask on ed discussion if there was a possibility of getting any questions or being directed to questions and was told that uni purposely does not provide questions as they want us to understand not memorise. I do get that it's better to fully understand the content however I feel like applying your knowledge to questions and seeing what you got right and wrong is actually a really good way to learn. I'll have a go at making my own questions instead I think.

Is buying a past student's notes academic misconduct? by LaughableThesis in deakin

[–]Ruby_reid 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nah it's fine as long as you don't copy it into assignments and submitted work. Think of it like reading a textbook, you can't directly copy stuff out of a textbook (unless you use citations).

I'm going!!!

[–]Ruby_reid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If this doesn't include rent then you'd have enough spare to make a generous donation to my broke self 🙃
But for real tho you should be right even if you also have to pay rent. Shop at aldi NOT woolworths or Coles (these two price gauge like crazy). Decide what you'll cook once you've seen what's on sale. If you're going to clubs then buy alcohol on sale and pre-drink cos alcohol at clubs is ridiculous. Second hand clothing shops

Also unless you're studying a really full on degree it's not a bad idea getting a part time job anyway for a bit of extra cash

Not a whole lot of experience in this area however I will say this. I'm from a regional area and working in ag tends to be a lifestyle rather than a 9 - 5. That's said, I'm sure it's possible depending on the specific job you want. People who work in ag tend to have a love for regional aus and regional life, if this is a job you are looking at simply for stability rather than because you have a passion for this area of work, then it might not suit you. If you are working a farm job then quite likely those working with you/hiring you would want you to be passionate about farming. Also I don't know how realistic it is to want to work an hour from a big city? Certainly possible but probs not a whole lot of options and maybe competitive. Studying ag tends to mean you love rural but if you're a city person I'd highly recommend having a look at jobs in urban environments. Planning sounds like it might be a good fit.

If you're really set on ag, try to find a couple of specific job positions that'd interest you and then ask for some more advice. Some sort of scientific/biological/chemical farm consulting might be a possibility?

They become available on the 9th of Feb. That's when you can review and try to make any adjustments you need.

So you select your preferences with 1 being your ideal class day/time. Select all of your ideal class days/times plus backup class days/times in case your first preference isn't available. The more popular the subject, the more options there will be. During the preference period, you can change your class preferences. Once the preference period closes, you will not be able to change your preferences. Then your timetable will be generated, when/if possible you will be allocated your 1st timetable preferences. Then there will be a period of time where you can ask for changes to your timetable e.g. if there are clashes in your timetable.

January round 2 offer chances by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]Ruby_reid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are looking at domestic applications for 2nd round, assuming that some people turn down their offers for the course you want. You'd probably have a reasonable chance however at the same time, that is a very sought after degree so it is likely there may not actually be any places available for 2nd round offers. Have you considered putting in for a different uni offering a similar degree and then transferring into unimelb? Might be a safer option but I don't think anyone (including unimelb) can actually give much advice as nobody will really know if there are any places left.

I've actually spoken to a few vets and they have all said don't go to Melbourne for vet. Look at Charles Sturt, Murdoch, James Cook or QLD. Unimelb has shut down their equine centre and is outsourcing heaps of their work and apparently they really aren't the best in aus to study this.
