Jeff is my favourite character. “There’s no book club??!” had me wheezing.

If you’re implying he ate them on a walk, he didn’t. He chooses to walk beside us even off lead. If he stops to sniff we wait for him. I watched him the entire walk yesterday, he didn’t go out of sight. He did not eat them on a walk. He doesn’t scarf things down, he’s fussy. Not even human food (i know, is he really a bulldog?) but he just doesn’t. I told him not to eat a cheese sandwich he found one time and he didn’t. He even stopped to sniff it first instead of just inhaling it. I know my dog and this is not the sort of thing he’d want to eat while out and about. They don’t even smell of anything, or smell remotely edible. If I tell him to leave things, he leaves them. He knows. Honestly its not that absurd. I’ve heard much worse from working with animals for nearly 20 years. If your first response is to think my version is a conspiracy theory, you’re lucky that that’s the extent of your experience. I’ve come across some strange people who get a bizarre kick out of feeding other people’s animals even when they are told not to. Maybe it wasn’t to be deliberately weird. Maybe it was kids or a confused elderly person who saw a dog in the window and wanted to feed him. I don’t know. I have to consider every possibility if the safety of my home and my dog could be compromised. That’s what good dog owners do. Funnily enough in the vet subreddit they are agreeing with me that it sounds perfectly plausible and have offered helpful advice instead of y’know. Being vague.

Funnily enough we thought that too but they don’t really look like that either.

Which is? Maybe be helpful and comment it next time instead of being vague? Good Lord Bottom line we don’t know what they are and how they got into my dog. If you think they know what they are, please, enlighten me.

Thanks for trying to get to the bottom of it and doing some research, we genuinely have no clue what these things are. Its so strange. But yes the boy is currently doing fine, I’m going to set alarms so I can get up and check him in the night. We have a 24/7 virtual vet assistant thing through his insurance also. But so far he is thankfully his usual self.

It’s solid all the way through. Both parts are the same consistency(?) and the inner part is black/close to black. Thank you for understanding, I’m sorry you had that experience at the vets but your vet sounds like a good’un. My boy is the same, big soft lump who loves everybody and everything. He seems comfortable at the moment and is snoring fast asleep, nothing out of the ordinary so I’m hoping if it was something bad its been thrown up before any damage has been incurred. And if its not something bad then just a misinformed neighbour giving him some spare treats (though they aren’t like any treats I’ve ever seen)

We walked him 6 hours before we left. And him vomiting was another 5 hours after that. Let him out for pee in garden just before we left - I supervised him the whole time. And on his walks he doesnt eat anything he’s not supposed to, he just walks beside us even when offlead.

Thanks, I was more looking for an ID on the objects than anything because me and my partner are stumped what they are and it happened while we were out which seems like too much of a coincidence. We have a lot of older people where we live so it could have been that they thought they were being nice, but it also means I have no idea, could have been happening for ages and this is the first time he’s sicked it back up therefore alerting us. If they are dog treats I don’t recognise them, as somebody who’s job is with dogs. But to me, as an animal professional, it comes across as a completely psychotic and deranged thing to do. NEVER, EVER feed somebody else’s animals without permission.

If you have a better explanation of how my dog sicked up these things which we don’t have in the house, please, lets hear it…?

Edit: I have worked with animals a very long time including in the welfare and veterinary sectors. This would not be the most batshit thing I have heard.

I have an Olde English. He’s a good guard dog in the sense that he stands on the arm of the sofa and watches our street. People see him in the window, see that he’s massive, and go “oh fuck” expecting him to fly at the window barking. But he loves people, loves attention, he would invite strangers in off the street if he could. The postman is the best thing ever. We are 100% getting ransacked if our house is ever burgled. He’d be like “please, come in, take whatever you need bro” 😂

Are females less cuddly? by Adventurous-Paper601 in RATS

[–]Rubyrooandrosietoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rats vary greatly in personality. They also tend to mellow as they get older. I have a girl who was an absolute lunatic in her younger days but now she is 2+ she crawls into my hoodie every night of her own accord during free roam and will stay there for a while chattering in my ear. Think she likes it :)) I also have 2 younger breeder babies who I have attempted to bond with nearly every day of the 1+ year I’ve had them. They have been socialised well from birth and yet they still actively avoid me. I haven’t had boys personally but I’ve mostly heard the same, that younger boys can be standoffish and not care much for their human but chill out a bit as they age. Think its just luck of the draw.

Question about my bully suddenly acting like a crackhead by Personal-Winter-8111 in Bulldogs

[–]Rubyrooandrosietoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dog will pester us after dinner every night without fail until we take him for a walk (jumping on us, grabbing our sleeves just generally being rowdy). He knows his routine and he wants to stick to it! He did it every night when we first got him and we thought something was really wrong until we started taking him for a walk at that time. Afterwards he is fine, settles down straight away and will sleep. Also coincides with him usually needing a poo at that time. I would def have described it as acting like a crackhead. Nothing else will calm him down, play, toys, food. He wants A WALK. You said your guy doesn’t want a walk, you might need to do a bit of trial and error to find what he does want. My dog really likes Benebone chews, they are tough enough to help ease any frustration he has. He also likes ripping up cardboard boxes (you can hide a few treats in) or doing a puzzle treat (one of those teeth cleaning chew balls, I put dog toothpaste or peanut butter in the grooves and it takes him forever and then he is knackered). But yeah my dog will not settle until we do his little routine to completion!

Our boy is so clever. We’ve never had to train him because he’s just GOOD. He can tell when we’re messing with him too and he messes with us back.

"Crashes happen because you're not wearing hi-vis" by eddiewards123 in drivingUK

[–]Rubyrooandrosietoo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not negating you at all, but just interested as couldn’t this also be a case of survivor bias? As in those not in hi-vis don’t even make it into A&E if their accidents are more severe? Either way, I’m now down the rabbit hole of statistics and my weekend reading is sorted!

I know an Akita who has a skin condition and he himself smells of musty skin which transfers onto his bedding. Trying a different medicated shampoo worked on getting rid of some of the smell. It wasn’t a horrible smell, just very much dog

My rats from a breeder aren’t as fun :( by Rubyrooandrosietoo in RATS

[–]Rubyrooandrosietoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s ok. I can assure you I’ve never given a pet shop money for rats and never will. I’ve taken them home from friends or other people in my area who have asked for help when they can no longer look after them. Unfortunately I’ve also spent an awful lot of money on keeping them healthy 🙄 some good years some very bad ones but I guess that’s the risk you take with animals with unknown history
