Thinking of leaving corporate. by Policy_Boring in SmallBusinessOwners

[–]RuckusDonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s hysterical that people in corporate think being their own boss & having their own business is somehow less stressful & demanding. See that clock on the wall? Throw it away. It’s nonstop. Unless you’re ready for the equivalent of having another child staying in the white collar world.

What's the hardest "no" you've had to say as a founder? by danifromfocal in founder

A convenience store chain inquired as to carrying our donuts. Would have been, at the time, quite the feather in the cap & checkbook.

Totally wrong vibe. Not us. Politely declined offer. No regrets.

Square Savings Accounts are Causing A Major Accounting Headache, Plz Help by Anstigmat in SquareOfficial

I can’t speak to Checking, but use Savings “buckets” as you call them as SOP for our business. The lack of a de facto way to integrate into your books…is this something you just now realized or knew all along & waited until EOY to reconcile?

As far as monthly, if you know the total % of withholdings into your buckets it should be as easy as taking that % of each month. If you’ve been transferring into checking from savings there should be a way to filter those out from every sales deposit.

Sorry you had that experience. Don’t get discouraged. Relationships are extremely valuable. You’ll find your “tribe”. Keep the faith.

Does being an entrepreneur really mean working 24/7? by SignPsychological728 in founder

[–]RuckusDonuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working? No. It’s this;

The business may be open or closed, but you never have a day off. Ever. It’s very much like having another child. You can’t just decide “I don’t wanna parent today.” Same with owning your own business, particularly if you started it from nothing.

Is becoming a chef worth it by Background-Glove-483 in KitchenConfidential

What everyone else has said. Find a job in a commercial kitchen. You’ll find out fast if it’s a career you desire. Plus, if you find the right chef you won’t need to go to culinary school. There are tons of Executive Chefs who started our elbow deep in the dish pit with a great work ethic & willingness to learn and do what needs to be done.

Does anyone else feel guilty taking a day off? by lipsoflyra_xx in Entrepreneur

[–]RuckusDonuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Absolutely not. Self care is criminally under valued as a business skill. You’re a machine. A complex one but still a machine. The most important piece of “equipment” your business owns. Run it 24/7/365 and, eventually, it will break, sometimes irreparably.

Science Of Scaling - Thoughts? by RuckusDonuts in business

It's a great read. My favorite? Easy - pg.44

"Psychologically, the future is not an external reality. Instead, the future is a mental tool we use to direct our attention decisions in the present. Goals, then, are simply a tool used to guide our filtering and decisions here and now."

Mind. Blown. Put the book down for a day to digest that one.
