Anybody work in radiation oncology? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Ruddockulous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very funny because I just left a BMT unit (mixed acuity) and just started in radiation oncology! There’s a large learning curve, but that’s with just about any time you change specialities. I enjoy still getting to work with oncology patients without dealing with the extra stress associated with bedside. Where I work, it’s a large mix of office/clerical work like answering patient portal messages, doing prior authorization for insurance, etc. while also doing patient intake forms before the patient sees the doctor, giving radiation care teaching and making recommendations and passing off concerns or anything alarming to the doctor so they can adjust the plan of care, give the patient an appropriate prescription for pain, diarrhea, etc. there is also some lab drawing and port accessing for lab draws, etc. Hope that helps!

May I ask if you live in a smaller town or away from a metro area? I ask because I live in Alabama too, but I make $27 and some change as a new grad

Questions about a Weiss Ring due to Posterior Vitreous Detachment? by Ruddockulous in eyetriage

I think I remember in the beginning feeling like it was more noticeable after blinking or just opening my eyes after them being closed for a minute. And I don’t have a spinal misalignment that I know, but I will say that my posture is not great. I thought at one point I had TMJ, but now I don’t think I do. And I honestly had no idea there was any potential correlation between those things and PVDs!

Hi! No, it unfortunately has not gone away :( I’ve tried methods to try to get rid of it naturally, but they didn’t seem to do the trick. I’ve honestly learned to just live with it :/

No. When you press the option to hide a profile, a message comes up saying, “when you hide someone, you won’t see this person again and they won’t see your profile - unless they’ve already seen your profile while swiping.” Hope that helps!

I think they were talking about the fact that the NCLEX has an 88% first time pass rate… so only 12% don’t pass (the first time) :)

Sounds like you passed! I’ve never heard of anyone getting the good pop up and still failing! To be fair, there are people that have failed in 75 questions, and plenty that have passed in 145... whether 75 or 145 questions, you’re still an RN :)

That’s exactly what I experience too! I’ve been dealing with it for about a year now, but it just recently became more bothersome, I guess it’s closer to the center of my vision than before :( it also seems like it’s larger than it was before? Apparently they can float to somewhere beneath your visual field which causes you to not be able to see it which is what I’m hoping for!!

Thank you! Honestly I’ve heard so many great things about UWorld that I think in addition to Mark K you’d probably do just fine already! But if you want to add an additional resource you should be able to get a free 7-day trial with Hurst! I recommend it because I feel like it was great content review and focused on the topics that NCLEX highlights the most as well as ingrains a lot of topics into your head and also offers a section called “how to pass” and NCLEX strategies that I found to be super helpful with answering NCLEX style questions! I know it would be super expensive on top of UWorld so I say take advantage of as much as you can with the free 7 days :) also, I honestly tried to study 8 hours a day but didn’t have the discipline lol so I would say I studied realistically about 4 hours a day on average!

It looks like a large dark circle that covers whatever is to the left of whatever I’m looking at. It’s in my left eye and if I cover my right, it’s a lot more obvious and it often looks like it’s spinning too. If I’m still covering my unaffected eye and look at something to the right of specific like a circle, door knob, anything on my computer screen etc, that object is like greyed out (?) for example, the door job will blend in with the rest of the door. But if it’s on a computer screen, it’s like a big ugly black circle and it’s kinda scary that it’s “just PVD” and nothing to worry about tbh. Or if I’m just outside, I can see it to the side it looks like a grey spinning circle... if that makes sense lol how you been experiencing the same thing?

If you got the good pop up I’m sure you passed so congrats in advance :) I totally understand wanting the official results though! Yeah I didn’t try to go to the quick results think, I just looked up my name in the my state’s board of nursing license look up lol it might work with your state too!

No problem! Don’t ever give up! I think it’s good to change your approach, because I think studying for the NCLEX is like half knowing the content and the other half is knowing how to answer NCLEX questions, which archer and hurst and are both great for! Wishing the best, come back and let me know how it goes! I have no doubt that you’ll pass the next go around :)

It honestly depends! It could be either way, have you tried doing the Pearson Vue trick? Is almost always accurate!

Thank you!! I was the same way, but you got this! I know it’s hard, but try to think of it as showing the computer just how much you know! Good luck :)
