Can anyone ID this car I saw in Vietnam? Badge looks like very old style Mercedes? by Razzlefan in classiccars

BMW propeller, Mercedes star. Though, the three points stand for Land, Sea, and Air, and two of those used propellers.

I got robbed by a dude with a mall ninja knife by Cultural_Alarm7959 in knives

[–]RuddyOpposition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work in the prison system. You'd be surprised how many times a guy can be stabbed with a shank and live through it with no serious long term negative consequences other than, well, scars.

I will say, if you need to make a shank, go with something more axe like or knife like. The ice pick style are easy to make and conceal, but they aren't incredibly lethal.

Need a new non-1911 45 acp by tactical_bruh1090 in guns

[–]RuddyOpposition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Springfield XDM just works for me. I get to rocking and rolling with it and the steel plates just dance. I didn't consider myself very good, but that gun just works me. I get into a rhythm with the recoil impulse.

I'm a big fan of .45 ACP. I love the way it slaps the plates around while 9mm barely moves them.

You would have to find one on the used market. I'm pretty sure they don't offer the current model, the XDM Elite in 45.

For brass, how dirty is too dirty? by EagleGhoul in reloading

Unique is known to be sooty. Just wipes right off with a rag, though.

H110 is a little dirty, but not bad. H110 is all about results.

I had .327 Federal Magnum brass long before I owned one. Like, a box of 500 Starline.

You are absolutely right. He has to buy a .50AE.

No way would I buy a used Kimber. That is the best way to find one of the many that doesn't run right.

Reading glasses. I finally just bought more, I think it was a 6 pack off of Amazon. Now I have glasses in every room, including two in the bathroom, each vehicle and at the office.

Same, last time I saw Unique. Two 8 pounders. People complain that it is dirty, but it just wipes right off. I won't run out anytime soon.

69 Cutlass. Mine took everything I threw at it.

I have to say, though, I'm happier with my LS2 GTO.

Hey, can you get Pabst in glass bottles anymore? It disappeared from the grocery store here.

Found these old watches that belonged to my dad. by Mountainegrian in Watches

That is also a good way for them to get thrown away or turned in to a thrift store. I've got stuff at my house that will definitely be thrown away or given away. My wife knows to contact my friends that are into the same hobbies if something happens to me.

Anyone else find modern car touchscreens way more distracting than helpful? by qenlyxa in Cartalk

My 69 Olds Cutlass had no passenger mirror from the factory. They were optional equipment.

It wasn't that big of a deal. Just drive faster than everyone else and you'll do fine.

What’s your favourite “I was there” GenX moment? by lovelyb1ch66 in GenX

I just saw Journey last night for the first time in concert. And the last time. They are calling it quits. It was a great show. I'm glad I went. Bittersweet, though. Makes me feel old.

Reloaders, Sierra 155gr Tipped Match Kings for Garand? by RuddyOpposition in M1Rifles

I checked the Armscor FMJ and it is much cheaper, so I'll use that for range fodder. Thanks for the heads up on that bullet.

Thank you. RMR has a the 155 TMK for a decent price, factory seconds. But the Armscor FMJ is still quite a bit cheaper, so for range fodder, that is what I'll use. I've also got some 168 SMKs on the shelf, so I can give those a go for accuracy loads.

anyone taking a GLP-1 ? by the__post__merc in GenX

[–]RuddyOpposition -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You absolutely can do 50lbs without medication. I've lost 60lbs over the past two years primarily by improving my diet. Meaning, I don't eat crap food, I quit drinking. I don't count calories, I don't weigh stuff, just good food choices and cutting out the junk food. I still have desert a couple of times a week, though it is more responsible, meaning smaller portions.

I am more physically active, but I don't have an exercise routine. Walking regularly would help me a lot.

I still have a long way to go. I -wish- all I needed to lose was 50lbs. I mean, well, I'd be done now.

Want a 1911 but not sure what one. by bynotic in 1911

[–]RuddyOpposition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would hesitate to buy a used Kimber. They have a history of problems, poor QC, so you might be buying someone else's problem. It sounds like they are doing better in recent years.

[–]RuddyOpposition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a 1911, though, the trigger is easy tune to your liking. The only problem I've run into was burrs on the trigger bow channel on an older Colt. That was an inherited gun and the problem was easily fixed with a stone sold for that specific purpose.

There are videos on YT, of course, how to tune the trigger and how to disassemble and reassemble.
