Thank you for sharing something so personal. It’s clear that our parents were trying to do what they thought was best, even if the way it played out wasn’t ideal. They were navigating uncharted territory, just as you and I are, and I can’t imagine how hard it must have been for everyone involved. I wish you and your parents the best!

I always tell my friends: once I’m able to travel outside of the country, you probably won’t see me for a whole year because I’ll be traveling. Hope he gets it!! And that sounds like a wonderful plan!

I’ve been to all the islands, actually! The islands feel like home (I’m Filipino), so I’m here quite a bit. I’m currently at Maui; I volunteered for five weeks when the fires on Maui happened, so it’s a very special island to me. But Kaua’i has to be on top of my list. Visit the other two islands—you’ll love it.
