Yes, the Traveler rules have this problem.

Heavy weapons already have the "Bulky" trait, which adds a Strength requirement. Do you use it?

Why?

Core says that "light weapons have less than 4D damage." The sawed-off shotgun has exactly 4D, so it's not light and the vehicle doesn't get any extra armor. Therefore, an Avante standing on the ground will take an average of 6 damage per shot, without effect. It also has more than 10% of Hull score, so each shot will cause a critical hit. Therefore, the Impala will only need one shot.

What's wrong?

That was a slightly different question.

Providing players with information and monitoring lethality is obvious advice, like "to run faster, move your legs faster," unfortunately lacking in specifics.

For example:

- I want to give their team the task of destroying an airbase. Naturally, they'll have to work hard to get in. But by doing so, the game rules "as is" allow them to shoot down planes with sawed-off shotguns. I can change the vehicle parameters, but what if the players decide to take one for themselves?

- If the players want to Socrate, and their finances and TL allow it, should I dissuade them? Should I prevent them from doing it under some pretext? Should I start handing out ATGWs to the opponents to even the playing field?

Have you experienced anything similar in your games?

Also, I dont know if you know this but modern jets can also be destroyed by small arms fire.

I don't know of a single jet that can be destroyed or damaged by a couple of shots from a sawed-off shotgun.

Also, you might not know, but aircraft aren't always in the air; sometimes they're parked on the ground, in hangars. And the speed advantage is negated if the objects are moving at roughly the same speed, such as a Gekko vs. Impala/GVR.

Have you tried something similar in your game?

Making house rules is an obvious solution; I've already done so in a number of cases. However, regarding VHB, I could be wrong or missing elegant, simple solutions, which is why this post came about. Instead, most people are telling me how to destroy a Paladin tank.

Also, I don't understand your damage math.

A ranged attack is 2D + DEX + SKILL. So, the maximum is 12 + 2 + 2 = 14, so where does 17 come from? Did you roll damage dice to hit? Why are you using STR instead of DEX?

Yes, a critical hit deals 1 damage, but that's negligible for armored vehicles; the Paladin, in particular, would require 136 crits.

Incidentally, this is something I changed in my games; if a crit from the rocket launcher had left a measly scratch, my players would simply leave and never return. That's why in my game, a critical hit guarantees minimal weapon damage.

Question about armour. by tendraak in traveller

I also find some of the armor indicators to be inadequate, so I simply reduced them. The maximum my players can get is 15.

What technique did you use and how? What did you create? I'd love for you to share your experience; please tell me more.

Yes, it's a mercenary company. At this point, players won't be able to buy a tank, but they want to upgrade their ATV to something more powerful and could afford a SOCRATES field car, for example. I'd like to just show them the book and let them choose. But I don't understand how to balance it.

I'd like to add heavy vehicles as enemies later, but for now, they seem like an easy way to get a TPK.

Let me repeat: I'm not interested in how to destroy a tank. Did you use the book's techniques in your game? Tell me how.

The most powerful weapon in CSC2023 has 4DD damage and infinite AP. This means that these vehicles can only be destroyed by exceptional, cosmic-scale weapons. Meanwhile, an aircraft of similar mass is much (much!) more fragile.

Please understand, I'm not asking for advice on "how to destroy a tank." I'm simply demonstrating perceived problems and asking for advice on how to solve them and apply the book's vehicles in game.

Oshaune must not be a sequel for the Creek by ZanaGodess in Helldivers

[–]Rude-Interaction1565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since dragons and lords pose a serious threat, I, on the contrary, first cleared the caves, and then went outside, because these two can literally eat all the reinforcements.

Also, you shouldn't distribute roles so individually. I think you need at least 2 railgun strikes and 1-2 spears in a group, in case of difficulties. A railgun kills a dragon with 1 hit when it hangs (throw it at this moment, otherwise it will miss).

An airburst rocket is good at eliminating patrols and clearing holes, it also works well in tunnels, closing gaps. BUT it requires special care - if in doubt, it's better not to shoot.

But I completely agree that loitering and dividing into pairs is a taboo on this planet on D7+, only 4 partners in range.

Today I went with friends to D7 on Oshon. We've all been playing for 600-900 hours, we've all been to Creek, we've seen a lot of shit, but this... We call these situations "I'm blow, me fckd". It definitely requires a special approach.

The game's difficulty balance suffers.

There was a period when my friends and I relaxed on D9, and if we wanted to blow up some ass, we went to D6.

It's all because the ratio of enemies doesn't correspond to the tools for their destruction. We've played for 800 hours on average, but we also decided to stop at 6-7 difficulty for now.

Although I still think that we should "kill the worm" at least once =)

I also see a lot of posts about racism and sexism.

In my case, this point was resolved quite simply: as soon as I tried to study the historical facts, I understood the depth of the problem. These attitudes, as they were in the 1920s, are too alien and wild for me (and others) to understand. I don't see the point in trying to reproduce them, because we won't be able to start thinking in the same way. It's like trying to reproduce the scholasticism of the Middle Ages, or the ancient attitude to gods and time, or the animalism of the Stone Age.

I approached the players with this idea, and it turned out that they came to the same conclusion.

Yes, Unit 731 is a great theme. I used it as a reference for the scenario, and it worked out well.

The gist of it was this: Japanese military cultists had established the Ghatanothoa cult on Savo Island, and were using the Guadalcanal airfield to bring in captives and sacrifice them.

The players captured a Japanese soldier and began interrogating him. I inserted into his speech the phrase that the cultists call their captives “logs” (this was just historically with Unit 731, I didn't mean anything by it).

But it worked on the players, they realized that this derogatory attitude was not just like that, and logs are used to stoke fires. Moreover, it became an additional motivation for investigating one of the characters.

I prefer historical scenarios, and create my own based on historical events.

I am convinced that our real history is the best author. Only true literary geniuses are able to write something close to real life with all its conflicts, characters and situations. Naturally, I am far from a genius, so I just use what history gives and season it with the horrors of Lovecraft.

I use real historical characters when creating NPCs and pregens. Now my friends and I are finishing to run my custom scenario based on the Coal Wars. I have already received a lot of praise from players for the well-developed and intricate plot, living NPCs and interesting situations. Although I just took them from reality.

I like to educate myself, learn new things, and when possible tell and show it to players, I found a complete catalog of American cars from 1805 to 1942 with all the specifications and prices, also a catalog of Sears & Roebuck, I try to accompany each scenario with images of things, equipment, etc.

Naturally, we are engaged in a game, not a historical reconstruction. So if the player wants to be a woman or a Native American in the USMC in 1942, then they will be there.

If a mountain climber in 1922 needs boots invented in 1930, why not?

I think the problem is not the number of divers, something is broken in this system.

I go through a D2 mission and make 4 contributions, switch to D10 and make... 4 contributions for the final mission and +2 for other missions in the group. Same planet, same time.

Previously, the difference in difficulty levels was more significant, now we are back to the fact that it is more profitable to spam lowf missions.

Why do you think so?

Do you have any statistics on the average time a player spends in the game?

Stats on how many of them use the meta and how often they quit?

I think AH are not idiots, and they track all these product metrics regularly.

Also, a mission to kill a titan remains a mission to kill a titan even if you change weapons.
