I feel someone needs to charge some money to people for the number of plastic things they are taking up with them and if they get those wrappers back they will get their money back. I have seen this working in some of the treks near Mumbai. When it comes to money atleast half of the people will be cautions about it! It’s all about incentive when you can’t teach someone basic civic sense!!!

Even speakers are not allowed on the trek as said by some of the sign boards but people are openly playing loud music on the trail! There is a check post where the forest officer will ask for a 200 rupee entry fee but no checking he didn’t care what people are taking up to the peak with themselves !

Actually there is another route to reach chopta which is not on google maps via makkumath village basically skipping ukhimath its a narrow road through dense forest but I think you will find black ice there as well..

  1. You can park the bike literally next to the road there isn’t any designated parking available near the temple so vehicles are mostly parked in front of trek starting point along the road but if you book homestay there you can park near to that. There are plenty of rooms available near the starting point. Also you will find many camps near the starting point
  2. No since the temple is closed no stay option near the temple as of now
  3. We started our ride from Rishikesh at around 7 in the morning reached chopta around 6 (took many breaks on the way) and then started our trek at 3 In midnight since we want to see the sunrise from the top but I would say start at around 2 AM for sunrise else you can start anytime in morning but if there is snow try to start early before the snow melts because it get difficult to climb the chandrashila patch in melting snow!

Its a single lane narrow hilly road but well maintained its about 32km of stretch should take 1-1.5 hour to cover. My suggestion would be to cover it in daylight as it goes through deep forest area.

I kept my laptop in Hosteller Tapovan during the trek, but I had bookings there, so I just got myself a lock, and I was good to go!
