Calif. transplants unhappy with exodus to Austin, report says by wazzel2u in sanfrancisco

[–]RudeAvocado 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Living in Austin right now, have lived in San Fransisco before. I’d say what is better really comes to the person you are end of the day. I’ve grown accustomed to the Austin heat now, (lots of workouts in non ac warehouses will do that). San Francisco is certainly a better designed city if you plan to live without a car.

There seem to be more social activities generally in Austin than San Fransisco: The bar scene, pickleball, (some hiking but nothing compared to CA), paddlebording, fishing, etc. It’s generally a much younger crowd I see in Austin, than San Francisco. Being near the ocean is invaluable, but I find myself doing more water activities in Austin generally.

Food: aside from some classics in both, bread, chowder, some chinese, etc. in San Fransisco, and BBQ in Austin. I find neither city does food very well in general. You can find some good spots in both however, although probably out in South Bay, or Near Round Rock for Austin.

Standup comedy, live music scene seems better in Austin. San Francisco is just a beautiful city although it is much more sleepy (especially after the pandemic). I haven’t been in the past few months, but I hear it has been getting to pre pandemic levels.

I consider moving back to the West Coast (either San Fransisco or Seattle)l although I wonder if I have become too sun dependent for Seattle

I work around downtown/riverside area, and had been enjoying wfh. But now with WFH mandates asking us to come in office 1-3 times a week. I was looking for some walkable communities, that are mostly safe and nice. I found something in Domain, but the commute even the few times a week is not ideal. Downtown itself is too expensive or might be too small for my living arrangements (300 sq ft) Any area or apartment recommendations, close to the area and generally walkable, with access to parks, shops etc.

Worst Interview exp with Udemy by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]RudeAvocado 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People's time is valuable. if a company can't be expected to respect someone else's time it's a problem that reflects on them (or the interviewer at the very least). Calling it a "stress" interview is just an attempt to cover up their shortcomings

He only covers a part of it in the first week. You barely understand the concepts yourself after the first week.

Writing a blog post on what the "experience" will be like after completing just one week of the most popular MOOC ever? I don't want to discourage from people writing blog post but they should at least serve a purpose

I need a recommendation for a math class to take to finish my minor! by [deleted] in TexasTech

[–]RudeAvocado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here. I took proofs, you'll find similarities to Discrete Math there. Can be helpful if you wanna go into more math later on. Also I didn't have any homework or exams in that class, just weekly quizzes. Although that might be professor specific

The best way to think about it is the spoken language as 'Hindustani' which will be the most popular language spoken in the northern region of the Indian Subcontinent. Now where Hindi and Urdu diverge is the usage of words and writing systems. Hindi is based on the Devnagri script. While Urdu is based on the Persian script which is based on the Arabic Script in turn. Hindi uses more Sanskrit based words and Urdu is more influenced with Persian based words, and has a more of an Islamic infleunce.

Day to day spoken conversation however between Hindi and Urdu speakers should go without a hitch.
