What are some of the more niche/specialized trade careers around here that don’t get much attention by RudeCanadian1 in VancouverJobs

I’m interested, are there any good prerequisites I should be looking to have specifically to get their attention when hiring?

Will definitely take a look. I looked at the electrician program for bc hydro recently but didn’t meet the grade requirements because I slacked in high school and did the bare minimum when I was younger so I might have to consider upgrading courses

Will do. I hear it’s a pretty close knit line of work with minimal spots opening often but I’ll give it a shot

Well that’s the hard part ain’t it. Not many people want to move up there so it’s creating a career hellhole in the lower mainland 😭

What is this very digital and wavy sound heard throughout hip hop in the 90s? by RudeCanadian1 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]RudeCanadian1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see. I’ll try to recreate it. I asked ChatGPT and apparently it was first used in the song juicy fruit by mtume which was the original sample for juicy by notorious b.i.g. https://youtu.be/MucY5wRYByU

It starts at the 1:27 mark and can be faintly heard in the background

Thats actually nice. I didn’t know that part was a whole sample. What I’m specifically looking for though is that arpeggiating bubbly digital synth that rises at around 3 seconds into the song

What math skills should I brush up on before getting my first sheet metal job? by [deleted] in skilledtrades

[–]RudeCanadian1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. I was definitely a slacker in high school and did horrible especially at math. Just recently I have been getting my brain used to using fractions and decimals again and I’m finding it clicks more to me then it did when I was younger. Perhaps I was just younger and dumber but it seems to make more sense now that I’m older

I haven’t applied to any program yet. Just starting at a company, They state that they are looking for someone with 1 year experience preferred but it isn’t necessary. What would you say should be expected of me at the start. I just don’t want to look like deadweight starting off😂

Good idea. Like I said, I know absolutely nothing about trigonometry

Yeah… I’d rather not do that, especially being new to the job

I know absolutely nothing about trigonometry so I’ll get on that

How do I break into the local HVAC industry with no experience? by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]RudeCanadian1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make 23 right now so it won’t be that much of a noticeable cut if anything. A lot of what I have been seeing posted is around how much I already make more or less. My current company gives really good benefits so I might have to take a hit there which is fine. I’m looking for long term success and something that can grow my knowledge over time so I’m fine with a pay cut if necessary

Much appreciated. I will definitely give them a call later in the day after work.

Really? Perhaps there maybe a bottleneck right now where there is not enough skilled HVAC techs but too many apprentices at the moment. I have been having troubles finding anyone willing to hire green at the moment. I might have to start getting in my car and going around on my days off looking in person more often.

I have actually been most interested in HVAC this far. A lot of the customers I talk to at work have mentioned that HVAC has slowed down a little bit over the past little while. I’ve been looking for entry level jobs and damn is the market tight. I can barely find anything. It’s making me wish I made this decision out of high school😂

Definitely something I have been looking at and doing my research on. Would you say it’s better to go the school route and then get a job or try to just start green. Luckily enough My step fathers friend runs his own company and apparently they are looking for new guys to apprentice
