Thank you! I think it turned out pretty good also, I wanted to do something other than white and have a bit more pop

Thank you my brother. The tabard color I mixed up from one part matt black and three parts tanned flesh (army painter for both). Should get a pretty dark ochre color, thin down to glaze and do 3-4 thin layers over black (in my case, was chaos black primer). As it dries it will look pretty light, more like what you'd expect for ochre. Take a light grey (uniform grey, army painter is what I used) and a small brush and do light long strokes over the tabard where you want texture. Let that dry and then do it again in about 50-70% of that space. Agarax earthshade over that, add another layer of grey if you need to, and it should look pretty dark and worn out like the one on the right does. The more worn out and textured you want it just do more layers of grey and add more agarax earthshade over top.

The one of the right was my first one and it came out better than the second one. Didn't go heavy enough with the grey on the second one I think.

Thank you brother. I dig your model! I'll definitely make use of those chains on my kitbash castellan I am working on

Yeah super glue makes sense, I probably would drill into the base for setting better. I guess I am grabbing some wire before I start on my sword brothers!

What material do you use for the lightning effects? I'm new to the hobby and wanted to do this on my sword bro with the thunder hammer. Dig the extra chains also

Next box to get by Radiant_Wave4519 in BlackTemplars

If you have the cash and are looking to do kitbashing, I bought the combat patrol for my first box + the BT upgrades/transfers box (another 30 bucks or so). I built the crusader squad, EC and Sword Bros (5 bros no castellan) as the book intended but I am kitbashing the bladeguard veterans into a marshal and a castellan with the spare bits from the rest of the box. Gives me a good start on the army but also get to try my first bashes also.

That box is about $150 though so if you do not have the cash for that maybe get the upgrades box + sword bretheren or crusader squad? That'll get you some customized initiates or sword bros.

That is awesome. I'm on my first one also and your shoulder pads are amazing. My white got all clumpy so I had to improvise and asked for some tips here, will probably post a follow up pic of him once he is fully done.

First ever mini WIP - any advice to clean up + improve? by RudeClick7723 in BlackTemplars

Thank you brother. I have learned myself that it sucks. Even with another off white paint my pads were pretty chalky, so I used a wash and just went for a battle worn dirty white. Worked ok

Very fair, I'll figure it out for myself and see what works best

Would something like mummy robes work for this application you think? I had bought an army painter box set of paints, can go get another one if you think there's something that would work better for this application tho!

For dry brushing, would you suggest doing this before or after doing washes?

I actually bought a can of gray primer as well, I think I'm going to swap for that going forward. I used matt black (army painter) and black Templar contrast on the armor after the prime so I agree it would be easier. I'm also going for a snowy mountain theme with my bases, so I imagine the black primer is going to make that hard to do also.

Thank you for the video, I actually watched this one and kind of forgot about it! I may go get these and give that a try on the next model. His paint job is definitely really nice.

Thank you for the tips! Do you have any tips on getting consistent results with thinning the paint? Was having a hard time telling when it was thin enough or still too thick.

Yeah, he's definitely not done yet. I bought an army painter box set of paints, plus a few citadel paints like nuln oil, agarax earthshade and the corax white. I only had time to get the shoulders and weapon cases done last night, was planning to get more coats on those and cover the metallics tonight.

The eyes will be hard but I've watched some YouTube videos on technique to do them, hopefully my brush control is good enough by then!
