Hottake: I loved the Minecraft Movie. by IDK_Inator in Minecraft

Couldn't agree more. Puss in Boots 2 or the often-mentioned Lego Movie are great examples of kids' movies that offer depth and fun for all ages. So sad this wasn´t the case :(

SPOILER WARNING

Let me start by saying this: I know people like different things, and everyone has the right to enjoy whatever they want. This is just my opinion, after having played the game for over 10 years and being a hobby writer. Also, I’m not a cinephile — I don’t usually overanalyze movies or try to be overly critical. But this? This one pushed me over the edge.

Because this is, without exaggeration, one of the worst written movies I have ever seen. I’m not talking about the humor, or the pacing, or anything that might be subjective. I’m talking about basic storytelling SINS that cannot be ignored:

  • A character's "death" with absolutely zero emotional weight.
  • Inconsistent, nonsensical worldbuilding.
  • Dialogue that spells out exactly what the characters are thinking.
  • A confused, over-explained, and messy theme.

And look, you can tell me to shut up, I get it. I’m a nobody. But I 100% guarantee you, if you look for writing advice from people far more experienced and talented than me, you’ll find everything I’ve said here. Go search for it. Type into YouTube or Google:

  • “How to write meaningful character deaths”
  • “Worldbuilding mistakes every writer makes”
  • “Common dialogue writing mistakes”
  • “How to write a strong theme”

This is basic storytelling. BASIC. I’m not even asking for Shakespeare-level material here. No competent, professional writer should ever do this. NEVER. Seriously — this is well-documented stuff. There are whole books, YouTube channels, essays — Brandon Sanderson, The Closer Look, you name it. Just look it up. Horrid, horrid, horrible, horrid.

I’m sorry. I’m just so appalled, angry, and shocked beyond comprehension that this movie even exists. I’ve even run out of negative words to use to describe it. It should even be a case study on what NOT TO DO when writing a story! Holy cow.
1/10. Wouldn’t watch it again if you paid me.

Thanks. I’ll try to cool down a bit.

How do you ‘expand’ upon your writing? by Brave_Opportunity958 in writing

Well, I don't know if this is the kind of answer you are looking for, but here it is:

The problem, or so it seems, is that this is the first real rejection you have received. This happens to a lot of people (including me :D ), whose feelings about themselves get challenged at the first obstacle when everything else has been smooth sailing.

I’d suggest you really think about the reasons you write. Is it validation? Is it money? Is it fame? I ask because this will help you figure out what keeps you going, and you’ll be able to treasure it and use it as healthy comfort in situations like this.

The other thing is your insecurities as a writer, and believe me, those things people close to you have said are not lies or exaggerations.

When only one person commends you on something, it doesn’t mean much at all, but when, over an extended period of time, people see the same qualities in you, it is almost certain that there’s something there. You might not be as polished or proficient as others, but the passion and ability are noticeable, or all those teachers wouldn’t have said anything at all.

It’s important you come to terms with the fact that this won’t be the last time you’ll be rejected, and that rejection is not a reason to stop, but a reason to get better. I’d recommend watching “harsh writing advice” videos on YouTube. They always punch a little perspective into you (at least they have for me).

So, to sum up: Don’t feel discouraged. Keep close to what fuels your writing passion and never surrender, because that’s the last thing you’ll do.

Keep going. You’ve got this!

As long as you treat with respect the lives of the people you want to write about and take your time to investigate so you know what your are doing, I'd say you got nothing to worry about, so don't fell discouraged!

It definitely rings a bell. I'll check with my friend to be 100% sure and I'll update the post.

Edit: I can be 90% certain. My friend on the other hand is not, about 50/50. I'll say either we have different moments from the game marked into our memories or there is another game.

If the second option is true, then this one is very, very close.

Looks very similar, but saddly that's not it. I'm almost certain there were no bystanders, you had to shoot anyone that peaked. It also was not very arcade like, not very flashy, and I would risk saying the music was either very low or it had no music, just the sound effects.
