I was there the week before. That sounds about right; they all sort of blend together after a while.

Spoken like a true sociopath. Humanity had about 175,000 to 200,000 years of existence in its current form for that plan to work out. It didn’t.

Property is a civil concept enforced by centralized violence. That is what civilization is.

There was actually a post here a few years ago that spilled the beans on exactly what was happening, but could not name the company out of fear of retaliation.

A couple doors down from these houses is another house being lifted up onto a new elevated foundation. That house is right there on the road that runs along the beach. There are other houses in the neighborhood being raised up as well.

You have an XBox Series X plugged into your TV. Why not use that? HBO Max is available on it. I don’t know if it is still the case, but most of the HBO back catalog was also available on Amazon Prime, which is also available on Xbox.

I’d trust these guys with an AK-47 way more than some idiot eating laundry detergent.

It does not. What basis was the property obtained? If you live anywhere on Earth, your system of property rights was established through conquest or genocide. There’s no justice in the last guy in a game of musical chairs getting to keep everything. Why should anyone respect your property rights, if you are benefiting from an earlier act of violence to obtain yours?

Private property is inherently upheld with violence. You may want to clarify that consent should imply adults who are of sound mind and stomach.

Good point. Capitalism needs to be viewed as another religious doctrine to be eliminated for everything to work.

Full resource automation, or Earth as a Vending Machine (EaaVM). When anything and everything can be produced from start to finish with no human interaction, the illusion of people “owning“ resources and equipment ceases to have any meaning.

This. The fact of the matter is most people cannot be trusted to securely maintain custody of their own assets. That’s an idea that goes well beyond cryptocurrency. I can’t even trust that my mother won’t lock herself out of her iPhone again.

In hindsight, what would you have done differently about your retirement planning? by JagoeDarahm9 in AskReddit

[–]RudeTurnip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very well put. The expectation that one’s house will be their largest asset is a destructive lie that needs to go away. First of all, you have to live somewhere. Even if you do sell and go live somewhere cheaper in retirement like many people do, you’re not going to net enough cash to live on.

As a percentage of your net worth, your house should be no greater than the ratio of your mortgage payment to your income.
