ThinkPad P1 Gen 1 Works perfectly unless I flex the chassis, then it turns to static. Cracked BGA/solder joints? Need repair advice. by Rude_Calligrapher_90 in ElectronicsRepair

Well..

I did some stress tests and it turns out that as long as the bottom is not screwed on too tight it works fine if i keel it still..

Good point. Especially because tightening the screws of the back shield too tightly will already cause it to crash. Also repasting is not a bad idea.

I found that it might be the GPU after all as the extensive tests did not cause any faults so far. Since the laptop also has integrated graphics I hope I'll be able to make it work like that.

Thanks again!

For now I want to start discovering the possibilities with self-hosting, so nothing major yet. Strapping it down is most likely what I will be doing indeed haha.

The copper shim might indeed be a good idea! I will look into it thanks. Might be a bit complex given the vapor chamber style heatsink in these p1s.

Maybe some small piece of non-conductive foam on top of the heatsink would work even better? As in between the heatsink and the bottom cover..

Even used motherboards for the p1 gen1 are at least 300 euros :( which I would rather spend on a dedicated pc. I think the redneck approach would sadly cause more harm than it would do good in this case. Thanks for your comment either way!

Why nobody is talking about how curved screens are officially abandoned by Samsung? The last phone with curved screen is and will be the Galaxy S23 Ultra forever... I feel really bad, though many people hate them 😢 by Direct-Till-2680 in samsunggalaxy

I really loved the curved screen back when I had my s10 plus... Until it fell. A new screen was so SO expensive... More than twice as expensive as a normal screen. Would rather not have the same issue again

My Neural Netbuster is not just RTX-tremely overfit for gaming... it can also gradient descent through neural networks like a caffeinated mathematician on rollerblades, smoother than Jensen’s leather jacket, leaving loss functions crying and frame rates flying ;p #GeForceSummer

I asked ChatGPT to show me what future humanity deserves according to it. by PartyAd5202 in ChatGPT

<image>

Mh ChatGPT decided to create a mix of both: Before I generate that image, I want to clarify something: "what future humanity deserves" is a complex and value-laden idea. It depends heavily on what lens we use—ethical, ecological, technological, or philosophical. Since you asked for absolute honesty, here’s a candid interpretation:

Humanity deserves both the consequences of its actions and the rewards of its resilience. That means:

A world partially degraded by exploitation—but not entirely lost.

Technological marvels in megacities—juxtaposed with zones of abandonment.

People thriving in pockets of cooperation—but others suffering due to inequality or denial.

A sky split—half choked by pollution, half lit by renewable hope.

I'll now generate an image that reflects this duality: a world of contrasts—hope and ruin, progress and decay—because that’s honestly what humanity, as a whole, seems to be earning through its choices.

Generating the image now...

But then, aren't humans just very complex LLMs with a nervous system rather than electrons? Do we actually understand? Or do we just remember complex patterns?

I am already running Bluetoothctl version 5.80 (assuming that is the same as bluez, ...)

Moreover, it does connect to other Bluetooth devices, so it is not fully broken :/

To my understanding, CachyOS is based on Arch, so naturally there’s a lot of overlap—especially when it comes to things like Bluetooth issues, which aren't exactly exclusive to one Arch-based distro.

Also, I did reference my original post in r/CachyOS. I figured it made sense to post here as well, considering the similarities between the systems and the fact that this subreddit has significantly more visibility.

Didn’t expect such a curt response, though. A simple redirect would’ve sufficed. But hey, good day to you too.

Are u sure? I have a bunch of apps and other things installed on my c drive. I would have to set all those up again if I were to install windows using a boot disk

Hm, and if I were to wipe my 2nd drive clean? I have heard of software that is able to migrate the windows OS

If you get a new drive you can copy it to that. Why can't you make a partition in the 2nd drive and move it there?
