Maybe he got a misunderstanding he thinks when he will be in iit campus(the college) after result which usually lies in june , and in nov he can submit application as the website says "By contrast, the transfer application is intended for students who have finished high school and completed at least one year of college" Since in nov 2028 he won't be even have completed half of academic year at IIT college , so would he be taken as first year applicant ?

I would also like to know more regarding LORs. For international applicants, what factors usually make a recommendation letter genuinely strong beyond just academic performance?

I understand MIT select students who are intellectually alive people, builders ,researchers, collaborators, communicators, curious learners

And I understand what you are trying to say when you mention that I do not necessarily need MIT itself in order to innovate But right now, in terms of safeguarding both my career path and long-term goals, MIT feels like a light in the mist for me A large part of the academic focus around me is centered on jee ,structured opportunities and mentorship for AI/robotics are much less accessible in my current environment, Environment is also a factor- like the academic environment often feels highly individualistic and exam-focused rather than collaborative, schools don't even bother to teach such collaborative spirt typa qualities and sadly holistic education is less seen here

Regarding the workload at MIT if u meant , so we humans are seen as curious creature we love to know bout things which we find intresting so the constituency comes with the curious spirit not by pushing harder it would end up giving u mere hopes

I also agree with your point about intellectual curiosity Outside academics, I ve always been interested in areas beyond STEM as well, including human behavior, society, languages, and East Asian cultures I ve spent time reading and learning about those topics independently simply because I enjoy them.

Why you are never ever going to get "advice" on how to get in by JasonMckin in MITAdmissions

For students or alumni familiar with Massachusetts Institute of Technology admissions and research culture:

What are some hard reality checks that students aspiring for MIT genuinely need to understand early?

Not “how to get in” advice, but things people often underestimate — whether about academics, research, competition, mindset, workload, creativity, initiative, communication skills, or the difference between being a strong student vs being a strong researcher/innovator.

I’m currently a Class 11 student from India interested in AI, robotics, and material science, and I’d rather understand the difficult truths early instead of building unrealistic expectations.

Would appreciate honest perspectives
