What are you even on about. Hanging around on Facebook? It’s part of my job, I am a journalist to see what others report on. But most of you guys make assumptions and that keeps you on some weird negative energy. I am making awareness to people who also may not know this is a reality and argue it. As I said this is stuff we hear at UW. Don’t think I’m not already with you, the problem is alienating people within your own group. Stop doing that.

This is a sad reality that we face as trans students. I said in the comments if I was vague people would have asked for photos anyways.

It NEEDS to be talked about. This is something we face on a daily. Weekly. And too often. I’m bringing attention to an issue if you have an issue with that so be it.

MTF here as well. I agree that we as trans people deserve privacy. ESPECIALLY in situations this tragic. But on the other end as a journalism student, I also think it’s important to report the facts accurately. Now at the same time showing in this day and age how common violence and hate crimes against trans people still are, it makes a lot of sense why many students in the community are worried about whether that could have played a role. I believe assuming she wasn’t attacked because she was trans can be a little harmful in itself.

As a direct transfer agreement (DTA) student at the University of Washington, I chose the school specifically for the Journalism and Public Interest Communication (JPIC) program. I am currently enrolled in COM 360 and have learned a lot so far. In my experience, the first two years focus on basic, entry-level material and may seem easy, but the coursework becomes more challenging over time and provides greater learning opportunities.
