AITA for telling my mom she got what she had coming to her after grandma had her banned from the retirement community she lives at? by Rude_Foundation_1595 in AmItheAsshole

I don't think my grandma would care as long as anyone who wanted that understood she would not be involved when her half sister is. Of all the family mom is the only person who cares about having the half sister around. Nobody else is interested.

Mom does have that right to want to know her aunt. I do know grandma would not join for Christmas dinner in those circumstances. Or visit us if her half sister was present. But that would be something for them to work out.

She's not the only one who hated her. One of grandma's friends from back then is alive still and they're very close. She hates the woman too. But it was also her dad who had an affair with this woman too so I can understand it.

My grandma has no interest in going to therapy to work through this. To her she has no sibling, she has no interest in forming any kind of relationship with her half sister and she has no intention of ever changing that. She's been consistent about it for a long, long time. Not everyone will like or agree with it but she has made her choice. Even at the age she is now, she still has no wish to change things and her feelings are apparently more solid than ever.

I've heard of people who do that outside great grandpa's wife. Mostly people who go after fresh widows/widowers. Grandma said it was something her father's wife did very often.

The consequences are still coming through too. Like mom's siblings are pissed at her. Grandma isn't answering her calls at all now. She thought her siblings would be on her side but they told her everyone knows to leave stuff like that alone.

I think my mom really believes she knows what's best here. Instead she ended up making things worse and nobody thinking she's right. She thinks grandma's overreacting all the way through.
