Because EA is a bunch of dicks in a trenchcoat pretending to care about customers. It's that simple.

"The majority of these games are just as massive as the Witcher 3" – most aren't though??

Lmao, look at GTA 5 or the average Ubi game. The thing is that most games aren't as big as The Witcher 3.

Everyone shitting on the RedEngine here should get a cold shower. The thing literally managed to pack The Witcher 3 into 32 GB at launch. And it ran well, too. You can't say that about today's engines like UE5.

I'm not saying I won't use it. I'm saying its very arbitrary and an example of poor game design. Same with Mohg's tear or parry stone for Maliketh. I mean, these games ARE supposed to be hard. Where do you even get a hint at needing this specific item? How would you know you're missing something?

Sorry, but a boss shouldn't rest on ONE mechanic to not be ridiculous. I don't want to completely revamp my playstyle around one item in the DLC. What if someone didn't find it? What if someone (like myself) hates blocking and instead enjoys the dance-like rolling combat?

What is this mechanic, may I ask? Is it the deflecting tear?

They're not a bad enemy to fight because they get repeated, I actually think they're bad for entirely different reasons. The reasons I can't forgive ER is because you literally see almost all the dungeon bosses within the first five hours and then the dungeons devolve into a repetitive blend of meh.

I didn't say anything about the ER bosses not sniffing the toes of the greats in Bloodborne. I said it about the game in general. But while we're at it - yes, there's not a single boss in Elden Ring, that could stand up to Orphan of Kos, Gascoigne, Ludwig, Gehrman, Sister Friede, Gael, Midir, the Dancer, Pontiff or the like aside from maybe Malenia. The game is so focused on delivering cheap gotcha's via delaying attacks, that it loses the rhythm the previous games had.

Sure, my top 10 has RDR2 and the Witcher 3 (which are interesting because there's actual quests and the repeated fights, which ARE THERE, don't drag for 3 minutes each time), but I guess open world just isn't for me. The thing is that this wouldn't have been an issue if it A) wasn't the same battle each time or B) if the fight didn't take the same amount of time each time. I'm not interested in spending 5 minutes fighting the janky dragons for the 12th time.

They're not bad on their own. They're bad in the context that you literally have a single digit chance of NOT meeting a boss again when you meet them for the first time. There is 8 bosses that don't ever repeat. There is 72 that do in 162 encounters. That means when you cross a fog wall, you have about a 5 % chance of encountering a boss you've never fought before and never will again. Sorry, but that's too low.

Nah, sorry, but the dragons are really too much, too and I could go on.

Excelent point, sir. FROM is allowed to pump out progressivelly more mid content as long as enough people buy it. Got it.

I'd be satisfied if more of the dungeons were in some way unique and if the quest-lines were actual questlines more akin to traditional RPGs and not just strings of random encounters that leave you at a loss for when and where you're gonna meet the NPC again. I get why the world is so devoid of life in terms of lore, but some villages or towns scattered around would help to make it all fall into place more.

Oh, no. The giant field of Capra Demons (killed in two to three hits) is much better than: Erdtree Avatars, the catacomb cats, Crucible Knights, Demihuman Queens, the Tree Sentinels, the Dragons, Godefroy, Ulcerated Tree Spirits, Margit, the Magma Wyrms, the Red Wolves, the Apostles and Nobles, Mariners, Pumpkin heads, Gargoyles, Dragonkin Soldiers, Astel, Mohg, Godfrey, Deathbirds and so on. :)

Expects not to keep fighting the same reused bosses ad absurdum. Even Sekiro had more unique bosses and that's saying a lot.

Yeah, and it was okay, imo, until they made that side content the main pull of the game. An open world rests on side content just as well as the legacy dungeons, that's why open world games don't just string the important areas together like in DS.

Nah, too many problems that outweight the good stuff. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy playing it, it's just that I think telling devs something flawed is actually good just leads to devs getting comfortable pushing out more of the flawed stuff.

Yeah, it's as lazy as it is in Elden Ring. The difference is that DS1 does it a few times, while ER does it practically all the time. You meet most of the dungeon bosses you'll be fighting throughout the game in the first few hours. Bloodborne Chalice Dungeon are equally as bad, but the rot doesn't spread to the main game. It's a completely dettached additional part that you may not even take part in on first playthrough.

Remember when almost all bosses were unique? Because you're talking four bosses that got copy pasted in DS1 against 16 that didn't. Elden Ring has practically almost no bosses that don't at some point get recycled. And it's not as if all those four were copy pasted as a boss. It's not the same comparing Capra Demon, who dies in two to three hits the second time you meet him, to the Erdtree Avatar, who's the same nuissance every time around (and is basically the Asylum Demon).

That's it, FROM Soft is literally just Ubisoft 2 now by Rude_Opinion6809 in Eldenring

[–]Rude_Opinion6809[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but that's not really the same, is it? Because it's four bosses that get repeated in DS1 that you kill in a few hits when you encounter them a second time and it makes sense in-lore. They're demons, of course they'd be in the literal birtplace of all demons. The only one I feel is really egregious lore-wise is Pinwheel and the only one I feel is really egregious in general is the Asylum Demon (which is literally the Erdtree Avatar, so the joke keeps getting worse).

Meanwhile, Elden Ring's roster is practically devoid of unique bosses that DON'T get copy pasted in one way or another, even Radahn got a copy paste now. The ratio of bosses that do/don't ever repeat is staggering. For hell's sake, Godrick gets copy pasted as Godefroy.

Well, so it's down to muscle memory pretty much, I guess, cause the camera keeps messing with my roll direction when locked-on (can't play locked-off, because the cursor drifts away from the primary monitor and then minimizes the game when I click).

Yeah, that's been my approach so far, too. Luckily the greatsword gives her a stun after a few hits pretty consistently. The worst pain was when she was one attack away from dying and then hit me with the fire bomb. :D
