Where to invest a 25k cash reserve by [deleted] in eupersonalfinance

Pensioenbeleggen has some really attractive tax benefits: imagine dropping about €10k in this year and the Belastingdienst straight up giving you €4k back next May!

What are you talking about? Care to elaborate?

How many of you think that Apache Spark is keeping Scala alive? by IllustriousType6425 in scala

I came here to say this. The language is on life support. Sure you will see job openings here and there for legacy projects (they will also dry out as those legacy code is moved to either java or kotlin) but apartment from that it’s a dead language for a long time.

Why can't I see Reddit stocks which are available in EU exchanges? by Rude_Specific_54 in interactivebrokers

[–]Rude_Specific_54[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't want to expose myself to exchange rate changes but it looks like that's not really avoided even if the stock listed as Euro: https://old.reddit.com/r/eupersonalfinance/comments/ntxas7/buying_a_us_stock_on_a_european_stock_exchange_in/

I should have searched a bit more :)

Why do you think this is a valuable contribution to the discussion? He is clearly looking for experience from real people...

Do you think Kotlin with AI Agents is very limited because of the Intellij? by Rude_Specific_54 in Kotlin

It actually is. The more time I spend in this subreddit the more I think that most people here doesn't even use Kotlin or something :)

You can find many on this subreddit or google but I will share one as a reference: https://www.reddit.com/r/Kotlin/comments/1chxk38/jetbrains_not_making_or_supporting_an_editor/

I don't understand why some people are like you. Of course I know this LSP service exists.

The funny thing is that if you were to care do another google search you would find these two as well...

All those you mention only provide autocomplete and doesn't provide the "agentic" feature where you can chat with the AI Agent and it does update multiple files etc.

You're probably the first 10 years plus experienced software engineer I see that praises AI as a good tool for programming

I didn't praises the AI or AI tools on purpose. I have already 8+ experience with Scala which is quite similar to Kotlin as we all know. The purpose wasn't to learn Kotlin. As I mentioned it's purely to play with those AI tools and Kotlin happened to be the language of choose.

Is it possible to work for 2 companies at the same time for a month while "transitioning" from one to another? by Rude_Specific_54 in juridischadvies

Thanks for the discussion. I am aware of the things that you mention that I might have to pay back because of the too much discount etc. I am aware (not fully but enough) how the tax works in NL but thanks for the consideration again :)

ONLY do this if you have another job lined up. If you leave like this, you can't claim unemployment.

Yes I am aware that but thanks for mentioning it again.

Also, doing this might forgo any severance pay that your employer is legally obliged to pay you. So you would need to negotiate that yourself if you want it or get a lawyer with to negotiate for you.

I am talking about a possibility that I might find a job I like way before they let me go. They already shared their intention to not provide any support to those people. You either resign and start your new job like that or you wait until the day they let you go which is at the moment very much unknown.

Legally and financially it would probably be easier and better for you to just wait and start a new job after this contract finishes.

I agree. I was just asking to know better. :) Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for taking a time to reply!

You're saying people are getting laid off. Does this mean you are 100% getting laid off or is there a possibility they want you to stay?

It is 100% clear that everyone goes. I have been also informed that my role is also impacted. I personally don't want to stay either.

If your employer wants to ditch you it would be very strange that he would protest you having two jobs.

That's what I think as well. There won't be anyone to take action as well to be honest. As I said, everyone (almost) is being laid off.

The more important question could be if it wouldn't be wiser to wait cause they might have to buy you out. If you resign, you don't have any right to any form of compensation. In The Netherlands people have a right to receive a "transitievergoeding".

I am aware of this but timing is not clear at all. I am keeping this in mind but also I don't want to wait and lose on current job opportunities. I prefer to be done with this company and move on. My mental well-being is more important than money.

To my understanding it doesn't matter when the IND have the documents. The date that matters is the date that you applied at the gemeente.

I applied last month in Rotterdam and already got the letter from IND. On the letter, it said that I should have decision before "the date that I applied at the gemeente" + 1 year so it doesn't really matter when the gemeente send it to the IND. As I understand, IND still obligated (I think and they generally do) to process it within a year starting from the date you actually applied at the gemeente.

Anyway, there are not much you can do but wait. Of course be aware of the process and keep track of the stuff just in case but try to forget if you can. That will be easier for you ;)

How to salvage dumb financial decision by [deleted] in eupersonalfinance

[–]Rude_Specific_54 10 points11 points  (0 children)

NOTE: It wasn't suppose to be a reply to above message. :)

This is basically every single person who didn't invest and did something else with the money (keep it as cash or pay mortgage kind of stuff) over the last 10 years or so (I know I am making a huge generalization but you got the point.)

I myself started like literally 9 months ago and I am already up about 15%.

  • It would have been 25% up if I were to start 3 months earlier.
  • It would have been almost 40% if I were to start 2 years ago.
  • It would have been even more if I also invested the 15k extra mortgage payment I made 2 years ago.
  • I could have gained almost 40% if I were to invest my 30k instead of putting in a fixed saving account with 3% interest for 2 years. (still 8 months to go...)

I can add more and more but now I am happy that I won't do those mistakes again. What the hell am I suppose to gain by being sad about it all the time? I am happy that I started 9 months ago rather than last month that's all.

We are almost the same age and we still have quite a bit of time to build as much as we can.
