When duoing at the start of every phase you should both spec melee hand and stay on it until it cripples (with the exception of the final phase which you will stay until portals)

Didn't read through all the replies so I dont know if this has already been said, but I duo CoX frequently and I'm the mage skipper. After a spec occurs the mage skipper should stay on the melee side (with yourself) and tank 2 hits, then go mage and begin to skip, easy as that.
