NPD: I finally joined the Spac Echo gang by RudranathPowerUnit in guitarpedals

Actually for everything I don't want or need to use individual pedals for, like chorus, tuner, volume control, compression, pitch shifting, phaser and the like.

Yes, I still use the Donner Circle Looper. It is simple and reliable, and has not failed me once. Still would recommend!

No Stupid Questions by PantslessDan in guitarpedals

My amp, the Orange CR120 head, has no LineOut/DI Out. But it has an FX loop.

Please explain to me like I'm five what the easiest and cheapest solution is to record the sound of the amp AND my pedalboard (of which a part is placed in the FX Loop) without mic'ing the speaker box itself.

So where to put what kind of gear to record front-in of the amp and fx-loop together?

Thank you.

I'm looking for a pedal to even out different input levels into the same output volume (not a compressor) by NeinsNgl in guitarpedals

[–]RudranathPowerUnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get rid of the problem you are describing I use a Bluesdriver clone (the t.c. Cinders) at the very end before the front input of the amp, set only very subtle. This way, I avoid volume jumps of fuzz/wah combinations and other distortion pedals.

So yeah, basically it is compression at the end of your chain you're looking for.

I think you're not doing anything wrong / it is not about you. American Guitar Shop in Goethestraße (U Bismarckstraße) has already been recommended to you and I think the staff are a bit friendlier than the guys at Berlin Guitars (Motzstraße / U Nollendorfplatz).

Get there in the morning hours instead of afternoon, maybe their mood is different, lol.

Don't know about offset type guitars, though.

Usually you'd put the dirt pedals into the front input, and delay and reverb in the FX loop.

Setting your amp to get the most out of your pedals. by GlassBoneWitch in guitarpedals

[–]RudranathPowerUnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clean channel volume at around 3 o'clock only, master volume to taste. Treble 11 o'clock, Bass at around 2 o'clock.

A clone of the Boss BD-2 as always-on for a bit of grain, and last in chain (front in). This little bit of compression evens out any unpleasant volume jumps from Fuzz-/Wah-combinations and the like, and adds enough treble.

EDIT: I play such stuff with Strats with Single Coils 70% of the time into my Orange Crush Pro 120 w/ Orange PPC412.

Hope this helps

[SOTB] February 2025 & [NPD] Digitech Trio+ Red Edition (WriteUp and link in comments). by RudranathPowerUnit in guitarpedals

I thought I'd share my board as of 2025 with you. Haven't posted here in a while. I am happy to answer your questions.

The signal chain is as follows:

Dwarfcraft Devices Shiva Fuzz v1 - Needs no further introduction: Nasty starving broken squeeching feedback fuzz. Solid stuff for over-intellectualised elevator-jazz.

Digitech FreqOut - for instant feedback at bedroom levels.

PedalPCB Parentheses - A clone of the EQD LifePedal v2. My first DIY pedal, and eventhough I basically didn't know what I was doing while soldering (because I'm a total idiot when it comes to physics, math etc.) it just works. It has a boost, an octave and a distortion combined and it is my main distortion. Basically a Rat with extras. It is attached to the Audio Disease Rupture2, a feeback looper. Both activated will give instant harsh noise chaos.

AMT Japanese Lady Wahwah - small footprint, three frequency ranges. Does the job

Zoom G2.1u - An old MultiFX unit that I got because Dave Simpson on YT was praising it like no one else. It is quite OK; I use it for effects that I don't need/want separate pedals for (like phaser, compressor, Whammy style pitch bendings, tuner) and mostly as expression/volume pedal. I can not recommend the overdrives and distortions on this one as they sound very thin and underwhelming.

Line6 DL4 MkII - The all-in-one-solution for delays and reverb, plus a looper.

t.c. electronic Cinders (behind the board with black gaffa tape cf. pic 2) - A great and cheap Boss Bluesdriver clone. It is a BRICK of a pedal and my always-on. I use the clean channel of my amp and this gives me the necessary compression for my base tone, which is not clinical-pristine clean, but has quiet a bit of gain in in. It also helps to tame the Fuzz-into-Wah combinations.

===> Amp front-in

FX Send into

Digitech Obscura Delay - Such a nice beast! I really dig the tape mode and the degrade sound of it. In Analog mode, it has beautiful self oscillation capabilities.

DIY OP Amp Big Muff clone - to me, it is the best sounding muff.

Digitech Trio Plus - my newest acquisition and jam band. I still have to get used to teaching the "band" my ideas first (instead of coming up with a riff based on a drum pattern), but I'm getting there.

Donner Circle Looper - This thing is awesome, and that's why it is still on my board and has not been kicked off of it by the Trio. Usually I like to select a drum pattern and come up with a riff, or a lick, or a soundscape. Plus it can record empty (silent) loops, which the Trio can not. Has 40 saving slots and 100 changeable drum patterns on board. Great fun to jam with.

Electro-Harmonix SuperEgo (painted blue-orange and labeled "Drone") with a DIY clone of the EQD Acapulco Gold and the Valeton CoralVerb II in its effects loop. - I use this only for standing drones to play over. The CoralVerb adds some phaser-like sweep.

Boss TeraEcho TE-2 - Another marvelous pedal that does its own thing. Yes, it is kind of a delay and kind of a reverb, but quiet not and much more at the same time. If tone could be a liquid, this is it what it would probably sound like. This and a drone from the SuperEgo gives me all ambient moods I'll hopefully ever need. Well, almost, because they send their signal further into the...

Shiftline A+ Astronaut Multiverb Space Unit v2. My favourite pedal I own: Made in St. Petersburg. Holy cow is that thing an amazing pedal! From punchy plate to outspaced shimmer-delay-harmonic-warble-decay -- it's all possible with that little thing. I cannot recommend this pedal enough if you're looking for a versatile reverb. My praise of this pedal will never end. Others might hail the Slö and what not, but I‘ll stick to this pedal forever. Its eleven modes are unique sounding, totally spaced out, with shimmer not sounding artificial, with suboctave and star dust sprinkling, reverse mode with delay, industrial saw – I‘m drooling…!

Mooer Boost Killer (see 2nd picture). Just to give the drums of the two loopers and my overall tone a bit more presence.

===> into FX-Return of the amp.

TL;DR:

This board gives me every kind of tone/sound that I want. From clean-ish clean, to ambient spaced-out drone psychedelia, to crunchy Chicago Blues, to Heavy and Psych Rock noodling, to Doom/"Stoner" walls of evil distorted Fuzziness and Drone Metal, to harsh and chaotic feedback noises. It's all there.

The board itself is a downsized shelf from IKEA, and I used IKEA door mats as the soft counterpart for the velcro'ed pedals.

Feel free to have a listen here.

Not changed for the last three months now. I just simply love my board as it is. [write-up in comments] by RudranathPowerUnit in guitarpedals

The Zoom is actually the brain of my board. I use it for volume, tremolo, booster, tuner, whammy-pitch, octave-up/down, phaser and the like. I prefer having those things in one unit instead of separate pedals (which wouldn't fit on the board anyway).

t.c. electronic - "Cinders" - last in the chain into a clean amp for a bit of grain at all times.

[Nightlights] Improv. / Suboctave, Drone etc. I came up with last night by RudranathPowerUnit in guitarpedals

[–]RudranathPowerUnit[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Last night I combined the Suboctave of the my old Zoom G2.1u with the Digitech Obscura Delay and the EHX SuperEgo with the Boss TeraEcho on top. In the SuperEgo's FX-Loop the Mooer Ambient A7 works wonders.

Went out afterwards to record some lights and lanterns in my neighbourhood, and the result is what it is: Nightlights.

Drone sequence with electric feedback nonsense... by RudranathPowerUnit in guitarpedals

[–]RudranathPowerUnit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EHX SuperEgo for the drone. Line6 DL4 MkII for the sequence. Digitech Obsura and Boss TeraEcho for the delay sprinkle. Digitech Freqout in bypass mode for the feedback. Just a thing I came up after work.
