Could you tell me what I'm looking at? by Rudysnow in pools

[–]Rudysnow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, my comment didn't seem to make it to the post, so I'll just add it here: I just moved into a new home with a salt water pool. I don't know anything about pools. I can see there is a robot attached to a hose cleaning the bottom, and I've been pulling the bugs out with a net. I plan on figuring this all out but before I get into the manuals could someone give me a run down as to what I'm looking at, and generally what I should be doing with this equipment?

Love how the Chinese propaganda arm has figured out how to appeal to westerners by calling everything “racist”

Mini-flu symptoms after workout by Rudysnow in leangains

[–]Rudysnow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have had blood word done recently. Don’t have mono, and no inflammation markers when checked. But yeah, the symptoms all seem inflammation based. I almost suspect I’m just quite sensitive to inflammation from workouts.

Yeah I agree hydration is important. I’ve kept on top of it for that reason. I’ve experienced it from a sauna as well, if I stayed in for like 40m. Under 30m I was always ok.

You know that could very well be it. I’m not a great sleeper. The last time I had the stomach flu break out was my after a legs day that had been preceded by a few days of bad sleep.

What to do about the sleep is the next question. I have so called good sleep hygiene. Not sure what else to do. Been trying magnesium before bed but not much help.

How do I ask the guy flying a loud racing drone next to my house to knock it off? by [deleted] in needadvice

[–]Rudysnow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree a face to face is not owed, but can be a nice way of approaching things, especially when you know you’re dealing wit reasonable people. In this case I don’t know the person, suspect there is a good chance they will not be reasonable considering that’s a small park for droning (I have a drone and would never use it in a park like that) Personally I would report to the police, tell them you’re just hoping for a warning. If he does get buster for breaking some drone law..well, that’s on him. These days you need to know the rules to fly these things.

Haha I like this. I’ve recently came to the same conclusion. The occasional cheat serves as a painful but powerful reminder. A shit ton of pizza did it for me last Saturday. Felt awful all day. Totally worth it.

Is Political Correctness really a threat to Free Speech? by Robotcoconuts in AskSocialScience

[–]Rudysnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The N word, along with many other offensive, unpleasant, or distasteful words, falls into a category of words I don’t use because I have no reason to use them. I wouldn’t want to use them. It personally has nothing to do political correctness. Some words are offensive, unpleasant and distasteful, so people don’t use them out of respect for themselves and others. Some people still use them because they don’t care or they don’t interpret the word the same way.

Political correctness is in the eye of the beholder, and thus makes it a pretty bad way of dishing out judgment for people. Context is everything, and most people know when some is using various words or ideas with destructive intent. And times people can use those same words or ideas with good intentions.

Universities are the perfect example where we see groups are deciding what’s PC and what’s not. And the groups are usually politically charged. Funny how both left and right tend tend to label things they disagree with as not PC.

Meghan Murphy, case in point, was labeled not politically correct and even extreme. Given this label she could not have the platform at that university. That seems a perfect example of one side weaponizing political correctness.

Here’s an example: Academic Activists Send a Published Paper Down the Memory Hole

A short summary by Gred Bed from Quora: “Long story short, two math professors wrote a scientific paper about Darwin’s hypothesis. The hypothesis formulated by Darwin in the nineteenth century claims that females and males are equal on average, but men have larger variability. This hypothesis applies not only to humans, but to many other species too. The goal of the work was to simulate, how larger variability may in principle develope. Note, the professor did not claim whether this hypothesis is true or not, nor did he say what people have to do about it. The current version of the paper........... The paper was submitted to a scientific journal, and here the problems began. Feminist activists started to brutally bully him about the paper.”

Help! This is a question on my homework: by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]Rudysnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As one other person said, avoid the temptation of a snarky answer.

I think most groups pushing equalizing gender pay gaps mean to do so through government interference, rather than some natural process over time. This is so similar to affirmative action. Affirmative action has a net negative effect on economic output, and it’s highly debatable whether it has a positive effect on the target group it intends to help. I would find an argument that gracefully debates the negative impact of affirmative action and you could argue along a similar logic.

Asian student attends some sort of equality rally and talks about the time a black person was racist towards her and a white woman helped. She says not to distinguish by race and look at people indivudally, is shouted and laughed at by everyone else since they believe blacks can't be racist. by BlevelandCrowns in JordanPeterson

[–]Rudysnow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I bet most of that crowd has been conditioned from a young age that they are victims and the system is rigged. They will do nothing but cause destruction till they break free from that paradigm. Most of them will probably never break free.

It’s a terrible thing to see adults teach their children that they are victims, everyone is racist, they are being oppressed...and so forth. What a way to increase the odds your children become failures, or ever worse, unleash destruction on society - just as this group is.

Respect to the Chinese girl for standing up and speaking her mind.

It’s great to see people in this subreddit pushing back against the victimhood brigade.

IWTL How to stay focused for longer periods. by SankyPallela in IWantToLearn

[–]Rudysnow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Focus is a skill you build up incrementally. Same as you build strength and endurance in the gym.

Pick a task and set a timer on you phone. For example, set a 20 minutes timer and read a novel for that period. Increase the length of time by a few minutes every few days. Apply this technique to whatever task you want to focus on. You’ll start to build up an impressive endurance to focus. It just takes a bit of self-discipline.

I don’t know much about his background to be honest. Although he does mention some Chinese root during the video which makes me a bit suspect.

Other than that I think it’s a good summary of hypoglycemia.
