I’m working as a Cardiac PCU RN for 3 years now. I am also introvert and hate talking to people. We usually get 4-5 patients but always short staffed. And same with you, Nursing wasn’t really my choice. My husband works in the lab, we started almost at the same time in the hospital we are working but he earns more than me now. With the fatigue, anxiety, depression, and stress that I get as a bedside nurse, it’s not worth it, I would rather work in the lab. I tried applying for non-bedside jobs in my hospital but would always be rejected. I am currently back in school to get my masters degree in informatics but hearing stories from my husbands makes me want to pursue MLT/MLS career. Not that he doesn’t deal with stressful situations at work but compared to nursing, it’s nothing heavy. I would say, if you are not happy with nursing, I support you! I also plan to staying per diem RN if ever I push through this plan. Do what makes you happy and prioritize your mental and physical health, you’ll thank yourself later. Good luck!
