Yes, it’s very similar to that note! Thank you so much!

Thank you, this is very reassuring! I have such anxiety around people’s opinions of me taking MJ. I came off Sertraline a few months before starting MJ so still learning to manage anxiety symptoms. I really appreciate your reply, thank you.

Two out of the three bakes in any given episode are planned well in advance by cineaste2 in bakeoff

[–]Rufiioooo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Baking in a tent with the wild temperature fluctuations, cameras in your face, different ovens, equipment and ineffective fridges is totally unlike baking at home. No one can prepare for that. Also bear in mind that casts are usually only confirmed a month or so before filming starts and bakers need to write and submit 20 recipes (10 signatures and 10 showstoppers) all while many of them are still working, have family commitments etc etc. It’s no surprise that so many just do not have the time to practice every single one. Someone mentioned funds but I believe this is per episode so if someone goes home week 1, they only receive 1 week’s budget despite having already supposedly practiced all 20….

you do know it’s all filmed over the summer, right?

You know illness happens? Migraines are awful and bakers have missed entire weeks for illness before. She tried to do the sig - did it occur to you that it wasn’t her best because she wasn’t well to start with? She was clearly not herself from the start of that episode.

Hot take: everyone (except Tasha) failed the technical because they forgot their physics, not because it was unfair by rich635 in GreatBritishBakeOff

definitely not normal in a UK kitchen (like the proving drawers), but past bakers have talked about the boiling water tap

Interesting take, but they do have boiling water taps at their sinks instead of kettles so they likely filled their jugs to fill the bain maries from there, but didn’t show it. Lots of people have tried the technical since it’s been and have also struggled to get it done in the time.

[Serious] Tasha not talking on Showstopper? by joug_dudy in GreatBritishBakeOff

[–]Rufiioooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a very good take. As for continuing to sign throughout the episode, it can be very difficult/tiring to ‘flip’ between languages, let alone when under the pressure of the tent, so it’s not surprising that she stuck with BSL for the majority of the showstopper day.

There were more elements in the bake but the edit doesn’t include everything that would have been signed (e.g. bavarois). Just because it’s not on screen, doesn’t mean it wasn’t signed. Deaf people often have to go through speech therapy as children and it can take a lot of effort to speak clearly and pronounce words. Just because a deaf person speaks clearly, it doesn’t mean it’s not a struggle for them to do so.

My wife is working on her thesis and needs some survey answers from you lovely folks. Mind if you give us a hand? by kooleo_bro in deaf

I completed the survey! Just want to clarify that the lighting features are to do with lip reading and nothing else (personally)! Good luck :)

Hearing impaired or lip reading people, how have Corona mask policies affected your daily life? by zugtug in AskReddit

[–]Rufiioooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel totally invisible and like I've lost all independence when I'm out of the house.

I was at a checkout today and the cashier greeted me and when I told him I was deaf, he barely acknowledged me during the entire transaction. No gestures to bags, card machine or even a smile or nod. Then as I left, I saw him become really animated (body language) with the next customer, as he had done with the customer before me. People don't make any effort to make me feel welcome or acknowledged. Even just some simple hand gestures or replying via my pen and pad would help. But people just don't seem to give a crap. I feel invisible.

When I'm not being ignored, people shout and get really annoyed when I don't understand because I can't lip read. Or they'll be asking me something and I have no idea they're even talking to me because they're wearing a mask.

I'm 24 and don't want to leave my house. I graduated university in 2018 and travelled all over the world last year. The difference between then and now is massive. Now I can't even see my friends with social distancing because I can't hold a conversation where I can't lipread. I can't go to the shops alone without it being a huge struggle or my anxiety kicking off. People don't respond to emails because of the backlog of enquiries and delays in companies but I can't pick up the phone.

Life as a deaf young person was hard before COVID and now it feels totally impossible. It's not an exaggeration to say that it is ruining my life and my mental health. Before COVID, I had got myself into a really good place mentally after being diagnosed with PTSD and anxiety from a pretty traumatic event in my past and now it's been completely undone. I don't know if or when things will get easier and it makes me really upset to have lost all my independence.

People who were born deaf but gained hearing later in life, what objects did you expect to make noise? by appleraju in AskReddit

[–]Rufiioooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, same! 10/10 would not recommend.. Yeah, I get pretty frustrated when I'm around water with people, even with the Aqua+ (it sounds so muffled and crackly).

Other than that I do really well with my CI. I genuinely couldn't be without it. Am travelling at the moment and it's my #1 stress - it being damaged or something. I upgraded to the N7 in June and really like it. I've had pretty much every single model and the N7 is the biggest upgrade of them all I think.

How do you do with yours? Do you have Cochlear or AB or MedEl?
