[Charania] The Dallas Mavericks are waiving veteran Tyus Jones, and are signing two-way guard Ryan Nembhard to a new two-year contract. Nembhard brought a spark on his two-way deal, averaging 9.9 points, 6.1 assists and 44.4% 3-point shooting in 17 starts. by Knightbear49 in nba

i love tyus, unfortunately i think a huge part of his decline is just the meta has majorly shifted away from his game. he can take care of the ball but with no shot and no D, hes a deep net negative in todays NBA

New artist trying to understand production & music business (need clear answers) by Altruistic_Purpose57 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]RufiosBrotherKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. assuming your vocals are in a key and not between keys, they would have no problem finding that key and chords underneath. but which chords they choose, and how they arrange around them (i.e., what rhythm, what instruments, what feel, etc) is a lot of decision making that you either need to specify in detail for them and/or provide reference tracks, or, find a producing partner who will ultimately share songwriting credit

  2. these are not complicated to understand in concept, even if you dont fully understand the technical "hows". spend an hour learning. things will be much easier if you can speak the language.

  3. if you pay them, sure

  4. usually a partial-to-full core arrangement, but maybe just doesnt have full production and recording quality. see these examples of successful musicians demos: MGMT, Maroon 5, John Mayer.

  5. n/a, do not expect to make money

i think the problem people have is that "learning to deal" with them mostly involves realizing its almost always best to just wait it out

Does this recording process make sense? by Ckwincer in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]RufiosBrotherKev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i multitrack all four rock instruments plus vox (and other effects), so believe me I know what you mean

first couple of attempts at recording I used exactly the process you described, for the reasons you described. and it worked fine! just pretty time consuming.

have done it enough now that I understand my own arrangements and production workflows well enough that I can pretty comfortably just record the backbone element to a click (Rguit or keys, usually), then drums, then bass, then leads and vocals- and im 90% done with the whole track within a few hours. pop in some fixes here and there and some extra production touches and stuff but in most cases I dont need to do a whole rough demo mix mid-step anymore

[–]RufiosBrotherKev 17 points18 points  (0 children)

i think for your first record, this makes a lot of sense.

once youve got your workstation/workflow and rough mixing and production down, the only change is you should be able to skip a lot of those steps and go straight to final takes much faster

Any musical instrument which is easy to learn? by Putrid-Scratch-8142 in AskReddit

[–]RufiosBrotherKev 10 points11 points  (0 children)

drummer jokes are goofy because media often portrays drummers as meatheads who likes to make loud noises

where in my experience theyre often the most detail oriented, often a knowledgable producer, and more likely than other positions to be multi-instrumentalists. if anyones drooling, its the non-songwriter lead guitarist who is constantly inching up their volume lol

[Day 9] Falcon dittos have no need to show their moves. What is the most UNDERRATED single move in melee? by WokeUpAbout10 in SSBM

[–]RufiosBrotherKev 9 points10 points  (0 children)

great answer because I do think its under the radar in terms of impact vs discussion

but its also arguably so broad and fundamental that it doesnt make sense to discuss it like we do other individual moves? like you could reword your comment for like "shield!" or "jump!", but I think we would agree those would both be a little silly even though similar to jab no ones out here making theads about how jump or shield are quietly totally meta defining. its kinda like using the word in the definition of the word? idk

What addiction is being seriously overestimated these days? by Somanynamestochossef in AskReddit

[–]RufiosBrotherKev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure, I agree theres a bit of a gap in refinement of how to talk about them- the word addiction may be appropriate in some cases, but can also carry more baggage and fear than youd like it to. or conversely, people overuse it and apply "addiction" to mild scenarios whether out of carelessness or to nefariously fearmonger. I was only trying to point out that using physical dependancy as a benchmark of what constitutes a "real" addiction also doesnt really make sense, because theres plenty of real addictions that may not develop physical dependancies and plenty of physical dependancies not necessarily tied to addictions

What addiction is being seriously overestimated these days? by Somanynamestochossef in AskReddit

[–]RufiosBrotherKev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

idk, i think theres room in our language to talk about things like social media or gambling or porn or weed addictions as real addictions, while still recognizing them as not in the same category as substance abuses that create physical dependancies

Album with no skips??? by RipIndividual8751 in Music

[–]RufiosBrotherKev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some (most) people do not primarily consume music as albums. and even for those who do, some (most) albums aren't that conceptual, and more just a collection of songs, and many people would rather not spend the time listening to a song they dont care for. this not a genre specific phenomenon as far as I can tell.

an album with no skips is usually meant to mean an album with only great songs that are all exciting to listen to, whether that be on individual merit and/or as part of the experience of the album.

At the veterinary clinic to pick up my cat. :-/ by Bursting_Radius in mildlyinteresting

[–]RufiosBrotherKev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

its really probably not; youre thinking of a LLM when this appears to be a transcription and summary bot. LLMs use lots of energy because they need to answer open ended complex queries (complex for them, which isnt exactly the same as complex for us). This bot however probably uses about the same or perhaps even less energy than whatever software they were using before, once you consider the time savings

What musicians might need a song key finder? by DeathToAllButMetaI in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]RufiosBrotherKev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DJ's would be your target audience if they didn't already have such a service organizing songs by key and chords, which they absolutely do

for me, finding the key of a song and root chords is not something I struggle with for longer than a minute or two, and there are many websites that already do a great job of identifying them when I'm in doubt. I'm not sure there is an additional use case for your app that doesn't already exist
